As some of you know, I am moving from Long Island to the outskirts of NYC in NJ and working in Queens at a movie theatre. I have lived in several place in my life, but long island has been my longest stint. As I left my job for the last time tonight, it just really hit me hard that I am moving. I think it had somewhat to do with my attachment to the building (I had been there for 5 years)
I think the biggest adjustment will not be move to NJ where i will be living with my gf of three years, but the job itself. The theatre I was working at has 5 auditoriums compared to 14 at the one I am going to. On top of that, this theatre can peak at 40,000 people during peak season (Christmas and Summer)The more I am think about it the more I am thinking " Can I do this?" Anyways, I just thought I would post about this..maybe make myself not feel too nervous about the move.

From one LI Guy to another, cheers and good luck, it sounds like you are doing something great! Oh, and PNC Bank is a much cooler place to see summer shows than Jones Beach, and one other thing... God is a Skeeball Junkie who hangs out on the Jersey Shore
i was born and raised in new york city born in brooklyn and raised on staten island . i moved to the mountains a about 18 yrs ago . when i 1st moved here i hated it . no people lots of animals , i missed the food, the shows , the people of new york. now 18 yrs later .I love where i live , will never move back to the city and see more shows now then i did then . then when the weekends come alot of new yorkers come up here to the Pocono's to raise hell. the moral of the story is .. you'll be fine you'll excell. you will adjust and have good luck . just think of all the miles you just dropped from your trip to Roo .so now your closer. change sometimes is tough , buit it builds better coping skills (pass's the bong around ...CHEERS)
Good luck, LIGuy (or whatever your name will end up being)! Moving is always a little scary. We just moved to Atlanta from Knoxville last year, and I was pretty terrified (most of my family is in Knoxville, and I was starting my first "real" job after being in school forever, and Atlanta is a MUCH bigger city) but also excited, of course. Having your girlfriend with you should be helpful. I know I would have been way more scared if I didn't have SweetEvilJesus with me.
Anyway, my point is, I bet you will do great in your new city and at your new job!
When I took the job I have now (Which you know how much I love!) I was asked two questions, Can you get this company QS9000 registered, and can you do it in under a year.
My answer: Of course I can.
Problem, at the time, I had absolutely NO experience in doing this. I took the job anyway, busted my 'ass', and did what he expected.
You can do anything you put your mind to (I know, its a cliche', but cliche's exist for a reason).
