ok here's the skinny .. has anyone out there ever had a prostate exam ? how long does it last . im having one on the 16th and really aint looking forward to it . im being pushed and im not liking it . but i might as well go and Get it over with, i know they stick a finger up your butt . but how long do they probe for ?. i cant see myself being still and not wanting to elbow the Dr in the head .i mean how can you be calm cool and relaxed when your ass is about to be violated .. so if anyone has had the exam please let me know what to expect .
I, obviously, have not and will not have this "procedure" but I just wanted to pop in here and express my satisfaction in knowing, that after going to gynocologist appointments since I was 16, that eventually men have something that evens it out a little bit. HA!
It's no big deal. They insert the finger and press on the prostate. It takes 10 seconds if that. Just wait 'til you get the camera inserted to look around. My Dad had colon cancer so they do that every couple years to me. Now that's an adventure.

Well let me add a caviat to my previous post. The exam may take longer if they have reasons for concern or if they find something of "interest." If you have a family history they make be more in depth (couldn't resist the pun) or if your prostate is enlarged or irregular they may feel around a bit longer. I would say maximum of a couple minute but mine were not that long.
If your going to a specialist your odds of an more extensive exam are better.

count your blessings. This one time I went the doctor and after they were done they pulled AN ENTIRE PERSON out of me!

LOL! Obviously your friend never heard about the "one finger rule"....you are NEVER supposed to offer a woman in labor more than one finger at a time to squeeze for that very reason....it's much harder to get enough pressure to break a single finger than two or more.... ;D Guess he'll know better next time....

well i aint never took a backwards dump. and up until the 16th that door has been exit only . i hope he has small fingers , and i hope he dont find a damn thing
Ok I can speak with a little authority on this as I have had both a prostate exam and a colonoscopy.
The prostate exam will last about 15 - 20 seconds after the doc has his finger in your asss. He feels the prostate for smoothness and the absence of abmormalities. Prostate exam, no big deal, very uncomfortable with someones finger in your asss, but really no big deal.
If you need a colonoscopy the best advise I can give you is to tell your anesthisiologist (sp) " I dont want to remember any of it" and they will put you our of it!
When I had mine doen that is what I told them and I remembe absolutely NOTHING about it.
thanks for the info as for the latter if any camera is going up my ass , im making a reality show outta it and getting paid ... this shit is scary . and all of this because i get up to pee 3 or 4 times a night .. even with stopping fluid intake about 7pm (no beer or such mostly pepsi) im still getting up at least 2 x's . getting old sucks . but the good thing outta the whole thing is Bonnaroo is 250 days away .. im freaking counting the days for roo and dreading the 16th . thanks for the info .
took the test last night .. my prostate was found to be abnormal but not in a cancer way . the dr said that the center of it feels real soft, so its on for more tests . could be an infection. but it is NOT CANCER so for the moment LIFE IS GOOD ...
