Alright, so the docs want to send my pops to a ventilator weening facility to get off of his ventilator.. he has to be off for 48 consecutive hours to go to rehab without a vent. After many complications(and returning to shock trauma from 1 vent rehab unit to get fluid from pnemonia drained), hes back doing vent trials.
Well, they wanted to move him today, but he doesn't want to go to a damn vent unit, he wants to go to rehab(His words). They wanted to move him at 2pm, but as of a few minutes ago.. hes still off the vent, and has been for 28 or so hours. Every time they come in to say ok Dave the numbers aren't that superb, he takes a few deep breaths and bumps them back up, and says no dont turn it back on.. They say as long as hes doing well, they won't move him... but he knows that as soon as they turn it back on they'll move him to the vent facility so he keeps on pushin... 20 more hours to go, hope he can do it..
He won. The case manager and head nurse agree that even if he can't complete 48 hours this time, there is no need to move him to a vent facility as he will be able to complete 48 hours very soon, they'll complete the vent weening at shock trauma
The human spirit is a remarkable thing.....nothing else like it. Never discount it. It will ALWAYS find a way to surprise you if people have not lost hope....
Dudes and chicks, after many weeks(August 2), pops has pulled it off.. 48 hours without a ventilator means he no longer needs it and can move to a rehab hospital....and have a beer!
