This is one of my favorite times of year. I love just anything pumpkin, especially pumpkin ale. I have tied the Dogfish head Punkin,Southampton Publick House, Smutty Nose, Shipyard Pumpkin Head, and the Harvest Moon. So far the Smutty nose is my fave. I love the taste of the spices and it goes down smoothly. The Dogfishhead was good, but a bit over powering with the alchol content for my taste. The Publick House was a little disapointing this year, but still one of the better Pumpkins around.

I used to live with a guy who fancied himself a chef. He insisted on putting pumpkin in EVERYTHING he cooked. After being forced to choke down pumpkin brownies, casserole, (cold) soup, flan and "meatloaf"....I'm pretty much done with all things pumpkin. I know that this post didn't help but, It reminded me of Gary and his vile concoctions. So I thought I should share.

Lakefront makes an excellent Pumpkin Lager. Blue Moon also makes one, but it's not nearly as good as Dogfish Head or even Shipyard. Buffalo Bill's made the "first" pumpkin ale, but it's not very good either. Dogfish Head and Lakefront are the only ones I know who make beer with real pumpkins, other just use extracts which can be overpowingly sweet.

We have Dogfish Head and Harvest Moon in our fridge right now. I'm not a big beer person but my husband loves to start a fire int he shimenea, smoke a cigar and drink those puppies. He looks forward to it all year.
