I just found out I got booked to tune a piano at the Ram's Head Live! in downtown Baltimore tomorrow night. The performer is everyone's favorite moper, Morrissey. I don't know if there's any chance I'll get to meet him, or even what to expect for this venue (although incidentally I was there less than a month ago for a show), but I'm sure it will be a cool and somewhat surreal experience. Plus since it'll be last minute I'm getting a pretty penny for it.
So that's what I'm doing for Halloween, apparently. Just thought I'd share.

Well, not much to tell. When I arrived I was a bit surprised that the instrument was not an acoustic piano, but rather a vintage Yamaha CP70 electric grand (http://www.hollowsun.com/vintage/cp70/index.html). I'd dealt with them before, so it was not a problem-- actually it was good because the CP70 has a shorter keyboard and only two strings per key, so tuning it is simpler and quicker. Anyway, I never actually saw Mr. Mope. But I did see other dapper, middle-age Englishmen drenched in cologne that I assumed were part of his band. I also got to talking shop with their guitar tech. So nothing too exciting happened, but it all went well and it reminded me why I love my job.
