You know I just thought of this. Why wouldnt this supposed superjam of Les Claypool, Eugene Huts, and Kirk Hammet have to be the "Superjam", but just another one of Les Claypools allstar bands (Colonol Claypool"s Bucket of Bernie Brains, Flying Frog Brigade, Oysterhead, etc). I checked the lineup and Gogol is playing that Saturday, Les is playing Friday early afternoon, and Kirk is of course playing with Metallica. I just thought of this because there has been been no clear indication if it is just Les Claypool, or his fancy band. Just a thought and looks feasible if they really wanted this to happen.
I'm pretty sure Les' solo slot will be with the solo band he's been touring with this year (aka his Fancy Trio), Mike Dillon, Skerik and the drummer from Cake whose name escapes me. The article that spawned the rumor also specified that the rehersals were for the Bonnaroo superjam.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
It won't be just Claypool, Hammet, and Hutz. Think about it: the past two years they've had half of Phish and then a member of Led Zeppelin. Metallica's big, but I don't feel they're as big as either of those bands. There'll be someone there, announced or not, who will be a surprise. The question of who still remains, though
So do they announce the superjam lineup in advance? If so, when? I like MMJ, but my buddy I'm going with is like a super fan and I kinda told him I'd go to the show with him. But if Waits is gonna be there then screw that, especially if Ringo is gonna be the drummer as somebody suggested. Will I know in advance or do I have to gamble on this?

This is what we're trying to figure out. I've been the past two years and in '06 it wasn't announced, but I heard it leaked a couple days before the fest. And last year, it was announced about a week before
If the ticket sales are down enough they would have announced him as an addition.
Then tickets would start moving out the door.
Sigh....
You know Tom Waits is kind of funny about some things, one is that he hates scalpers screwing regular people out of his shows; hence the paperless tickets. I could see them announcing it next Wednesday for instance when it is to late for scalpers. That being said though I think you are right, if he was gonna be there we would have heard about by now

I just want to state that nobody has any right to be mad if Waits does not show up. Sure there are reasons to believe he will (hutz stating they were working on Waits tunes, Tom's connections to Metallica and Claypool, him starting a brand new tour) but there has never been any actual mention of him being there.
I could just imagine some people thinking they were tricked or something like that when in reality nobody ever said Waits was going (or was even RUMORED) to be there. It would be miraculous if he was........but I think they'd most definitely announce it to spike ticket sales.

I will openly admit that my knowledge of Tom Waits is fairly limited, so it is very hard for me to grasp how far his appeal goes and how big his fanbase is. If he was to be announced, how big a spike do you estimate it would cause for tickets sales? Assuming we are 20,000-25,000 to a sell out, would it make a difference?

I'm also not very familiar with Tom Waits...Hadn't even heard of him before coming on Inforoo. I don't think that the people that are on the fence about going are gonna be pushed by an artist that is not as mainstream. If Eric Clapton was added, I would say yes...not Tom Waits
Well the last time he toured at least in Nashville you picked up a will call ticket and were escorted inside by security. Someone posted earlier about being offered a 1000 apiece for tickets in 06. Those folks would fork out 300 to go to bonnaroo Friday night just to see Tom.

With all this talk of Trey lately...especially him being added to Rothbury...I am going to propose that Oysterhead will be playing at the superjam. This would be the highlight of my bonnaroo.

Now that would be a GREAT Superjam. But I think that Rothbury must have the inside track on all the Phish pholks since they already have everyone but Page. But anything involving Trey at Roo next week would blow my mind. I've been going through Live Trey withdrawal for WAY too long.

Tom waits is prety mainstream. The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart have covered his songs and friggin Scarett Johanson just recorded an album full of his tunes. His shows sell out in minutes.

Yeah... but how many people listening actually know that they are in fact covers? He is indeed very popular amongst the music business, but as far as the general public goes, not so much in my opinion
The Globe, 94.7 I think? The less crappy station here. Don't listen to much radio, honestly. But since I was off today and had heard every fucking NPR story 3x, I switched.

Thanks, just wanted to see if I can listen online.
