You guys do realize that RHCP would be billed the same way NIN was billed this year. They're no longer the drawing power or the band they once were. They will not headline. Personally, I think
Jay-Z w/ Coldplay backing him Rolling Stones The Dead or Phish or DMB
I gotta call you out on this one. NIN toured pretty relentlessly since With Teeth came out. If RHCP play Bonnaroo next year it could be their first show in over two years. RHCP would headline and Jay Z would get the late night for sure. I doubt Coldplay would back Jay Z for a festival performance, when they already headline festivals on their own.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Red Hot Chili Peppers would be a main headliner. That really isn't up for debate. I could see them as the Friday headliner, maybe with someone playing on the Which Stage at the same time ... but I mean, come on, they're one of the biggest bands in the world and have headlined many other major festivals.

Sorry, but when RHCP is now known for sucking at their live shows, they don't deserve to be a headliner @ Bonnaroo which is now known for their live shows. I don't see them headlining unless they plan on performing and this is coming from a guy whose favorite band growing up was the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I think they will and should on Saturday and Sunday. RHCP will be a headliner or wont be at bonnaroo i can guarantee you that. They are bigger than the beasties by a considerable amount. Stadium Arcadium is one of few rock records in the past five years to go multiple platinum.

Do you guys think Bonnaroo will continue have unopposed headliners?
I actually really like the unopposed headliners because if it is something you're into you can stick with all your friends and focus on getting close to the stage without worrying about what you could be missing, plus I like seeing as many people in one place as possible. If it's something you don't like (Bruce for me this year) it gives you a big break to sit in the back and relax, explore the farm or just rest up for the late nights.

Bands that have more albums sold than Stadium in the past 5 years, which was a 2x platinum in the US BTW.
Coldplay 1 3x, 1 4x, and 1 2x Green Day 5x (American Idiot) Jack Johnson 2x Norah Jones 10x Kid Rock 5x Nickleback 6x
I am not supporting any of them to headline or anything, I think Bonnaroo tends to go more for quality than just a band who can sell a lot of albums. I would be fine with RHCP if they promised not to play anything past Blood Sugar Sex Magic.

I wasnt implying thats the way Bonnaroo chooses headliners, merely saying if RHCP was on the lineup they would be a headliner. That's all. I would be fine with all of those playing except Nickelback. Even Kid Rock puts on a good show.

Not saying that they're amazing live but that they're too big to play anywhere but a headlining slot. Either they get the Friday headlining slot (or at least Beastie style and have another artist on Which) or they don't play at all. Just saying that they would cost too much money and probably draw too big of a crowd to have them anywhere but as one of the 3-4 main headliners/draws. Say what you want about their live show, but they're one of the biggest bands out there right now.

I've always liked the ideas of unopposed headliners because it's that one time where everyone is together for an act. I'm not opposed to having a DJ or something in one of the tents, but that would be it.

I like unopposed headliners b/c if I don't really like the headliner I can go check out other Roo stuff like the vendors and art without missing out on 4 or 5 other shows. Um, yeaaah, I think that is pretty much what you just said Drew.
I'm mixed on the idea of opposing headliners. I do like the fact that, during a normal headlining set, it's the only time of the day you have the vast majority of everyone at Roo all gathered in one place for one show. It definitely adds to the community spirit, I feel. Schedule conflicts are inevitable at any fest, but when I go to a festival, I kind of like to know that I have a conflict-free opportunity to see the top 3-4 acts. At Bonnaroo 2008, two of the best acts I saw were shows I probably would have skipped if there had been alternatives - Metallica and Widespread Panic. That's one of the pleasures of a fest, in my mind - getting introduced to music you ordinarily might not have paid to see.
I do think there should always be some form of alternative entertainment during the headliner, though - maybe not a Which Stage rival act, but at the very least some comedy or cafe acts.

I think the unopposed headliner stage could potentially be a big plus for the artists too. It might make it more likely for Bonnaroo to get rare performances or reunion acts from major headliners if the artists know they have basically a guaranteed 60,000-70,000 person audience. Acts that wouldn't necessarily play any festivals might see a different kind of opportunity at Bonnaroo.

I just saw Paul Mccartney at Piedmont Park in Atlanta last night, I'm in the we definitely have to have him as a headliner next year camp but what I'm not sure of is if his stage production of a show can be put on at bonnaroo, I mean he had these two tv screens that I believer were between 70 and 90 feet tall and there were to the left and right of the stage so the whole show you saw 2 70 foot tall Paul's and I'm not sure if the Bonnaroo main stage is big enough to handle that production structure wise, I think they would have to redisign the stage a little to meet the requirements of him headlining. Because those tv screens were a big part of the performance of the show visually and the lighting rig he had might require them to not have the big light up Bonnaroo sign on the mainstage.
He played Coachella. The Piedmont Park stage was about the same size as What Stage albeit not as wide. I gotta say the lights for "live and let die" were Phish like. Bonnaroo should make McCartney their first priority for headliner next year and forget The Stones or anyone else who would top the bill.

to all those knocking the chili peppers and coldplay: are you out of your minds?
honestly after being to the past four bonnaroos i've seen very few acts that even come close to being able to put on the kind of show that those two put on in festival settings (i'm basing this on what i saw at rhcp's show at lolla in 06 and coldplay's show at apw in 09)
I'd absolutely take either one over the police, tool, phil lesh, widespread, metallica, pearl jam, beastie boys...
i'd rather radiohead or phish [or daft punk] than rhcp and coldplay but thats about it

I've never seen RHCP live. But I have never talked to anyone that has gone to a Coldplay show and disliked it. They are really good live. And I know it is fashionable to hate on their music, and X&Y really sucked, by Viva la Vida and Parachutes are really good imo.

Some people legitimately don't like Coldplay, fashionable or not. You definitely don't have to be out of your mind to think they blow.
I've never seen RHCP live, but I'd definitely check them out if they were at Roo, even though I haven't really liked anything they've done since Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
I don't know where all this RHCP live show hate is coming from. Having watched their show on Palladia numerous times, along with the Slane Castle show beginning to end on YouTube, I must say I feel it would be an amazing Roo show. Their jams are funking awesome to start out the shows. Flea, Frusciante, and Chad all absolutely rip. Plus I feel like at least 90% of the audience would know the words to at least 1 if not 3-4 songs, and we all know what that's like with 70k+ people singing along (Better Man....gives me chills every time I see video of that song at Roo). I don't know, I think they'd be an awesome time, bring them on!

Take DMB and Incubus out of there and I would be very happy. I don't even now how I'd be able to handle Sunday after seeing Daft Punk and Jay-Z at 2 am consecutive nights. My head would explode.
Also I really think Kings of Leon is a lock next year, Bonnaroo pedigree, hometown fest, success story. Whether you like them or not, I really think they're going to be there next year.
