Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Oshoney is a lolla board regular and is a contributing member to cos, I don't see why he would lie.
Although I would like to know how he knows.
sorry for not getting back sooner. i volunteer for Roo with kingdom promotions doing tollbooth, and my supervisor was recently told by the people she works with at roo that we had to cut our numbers way down from what they originally told us we needed, and the reason being that they've only sold half of the allotted tickets so far (this was a week and a half ago) so that's why i'm guessing they're doing so many corporate sponsorships, giveaways, etc. they need all the help they can get.
Every fiber of my being hopes this is true. It would be SO awesome to have a little more breathing room.
But I think, in the end, its gonna be about the same as the past few years.
omg omg the schedule didn't come out on the date that I decided it would!!! the only explanation is that Bonnaroo is in trouble!?!?!
While the promoters might be trying to make themselves look good, they have said sales are fine and they are building a permanent stage! Even if sales are a bit low I'll take their word over an internet poster. One slow year (if that's even what this is) isn't going to be catastrophic enough to kill Roo.
originally i was scared that if the tickets didnt sell we would have shorter lines and less crowds and better camping spots, but also that the fest might suffer and not be as large next year or possibly turn into the next rothbury and close up shop. i now realize that all this corporate sponsorship is going to keep roo making money and therefore not be in debt. BUT if these corporate guys see that tickets suck, they wont work with roo next time around. roo will be forced to actually get the artists that everyone wants to see and we will have more people come next year.
but for the sake of the sanctity of bonnaroo, i want the festival to do well. i hope we are able to sell at least 60-65 thousand tickets. i like knowing that i go to the greatest festival in america
Even if ticket sales are down for 2010, bonnaroo will be fine since next year is the 10th anniversary and I imagine (hope) they will back it up with an unbelievable lineup
I'm not necessarily calling bs on Oshoney, but I'm sure the ticket taker supervisors have absolutely no idea what ticket sales are like. Everybody on the net knows somebody that knows somebody that is a higher up or in someway privy to information that nobody else is. Until somebody gives me actual proof that ticket sales are low I'm not buying into that being the late schedule reason.
Let's do some arithmetic.. 40,000 (Half of the tickets.) Mulitiplied by $200 (less than the face value) is still 8 million dollars. I figure their usual take is about 17.5 - 20 million off of ticket sales, Even with a 10 million dollar disparity they have made enough money and should be able to put out the dam schedule for the fans. The only reason the schedule could hurt the sales is if it is full of bulljive conflicts like Byrne and Beasties.

no one was saying that was the reason for the delay. i was saying that in response to that stupid freedom lounge and the rest of the corporate stuff. because i'm guessing the increased corporate presence this year is due to the low ticket sales. that was my guess anyways, then when i found out that info it made a lot of sense.
and obviously in any other situation she wouldn't know that information. but whoever it is at Roo that told her we had to cut down numbers gave her the reason that they've only sold half the tickets. so either he was just bullshitting that reason for god knows what, or that's actually true. the girl i work for is not the kind of person who would just make something like that up. i've known her for a long time.
it's been hell for me personally because i'm a team leader and i had a group of about 38 set to come volunteer with us and then i had to cut it down to 13 it was not fun having to tell everyone they couldn't come anymore.

I am sure sales are down, but I would bet whoever told her that was just making up a number that sounded good, and would explain all the people not getting hired this year.

i mean yeah, "about half" is pretty general. but it's weirdly low. they could have just said ticket sales are down and not been specific. i dunno. i mean i'm not claiming to know the exact number they've sold or whatever, but that's just what we were told by someone at Roo a week and a half ago.

Even if sales are down, and the lineup isn't to all's liking, next year is the 10th anniversary I would bet the greatest festival lineup since Woodstock will be put into play.
A lot of people thought this year was gonna be great too. We can't assume anything about AC/Superfly at this point.
And also, what is the point of attacking someone with legitimate information. The fact that volunteer numbers are way down should be enough to justify ticket sales being low. Can anyone really dispute that?

Remember when COS has like hundreds of posts a day......than they changed the format and now nobody goes on there..or is it because of all of the false rumors they had up on the sight? It went from Bonnaroo updates everyday and tons of posts to crickets

if they were hurting so much would they still be announcing all the extra activities they have been announcing? those activities are not going to draw people into the fest, it's just extras for those that are already attending. would they really waste their time adding that stuff if ticket sales were so low? they have lots of new activities this year, wouldn't they just have put it on the backburner?

I agree with sang. The only thing that is going to sell more tickets is more artists. Most all fests could use more sales, but if you are hurting for ticket sales these activities aren't changing anything. Also I don't think holding onto the schedule an extra week is going to make much difference in ticket sales either. You have a few people who might be waiting on the schedule to buy tickets, but i would say most people have made up their mind by now. We are a month away. If you work or do anything you have to take time off you would have to make your mind up by now to get the time off.
I think people have explained why they're still announcing stuff like that, because they need as much sponsor money as possible.
This is correct. Keep in mind all of these sponser emails we are getting were more than likely lined up closer to last year than this year. Sponsers for this year were sold on the sponsership at last years roo. These emails are things that have been planned for months for the most part.

At least they have have a template up for the schedule. Small glimmer of hope, but yeah...still waiting.
I think the sponsorships are a good thing? I mean, it's two-fold as a lot of people have said. A lot of sponsors means that Roo is viable and a true mainstream option (exposure + respectability). To have corporations invest in the festival is positive as it does give Roo the chance to build their infrastructure without taking money out of their own pocket. Then again, if the fest is drastically off target in terms of tickets, it may hurt in the future as other fests may creep up (Lolla expanded their space and increased # of tickets to be sold)
The delay is curious but then again it's not like Coachella waiting until the last minute.
Got this e-mail today. Looks like Thursday or Friday of next week. At least it isn't later.
Thanks for your interest in Bonnaroo. The schedule for this year's festival is not available just yet, however will be available late next week. Please stay tuned to www.bonnaroo.com for all festival information.
