I was soooo torn when Duke played Kentucky. I hate them both soooo much right now.
Mark my words, you heard it here first: NC State is the most talented team in the nation. They will win the ACC this year, they will go to the final four, and they might even win the national championship.

I'm not forgetting, Jackson. They're good, but I don't think they're a dominant #1 by any stretch. I don't think any team is head-and-shoulders above the rest this year; I think it's a wide-open field for the championship, and that bodes well for uber-talented teams like NC State. I'm not saying they WILL, but I'm saying they're a much more serious contender then people might realize.
*note that I am not being a homer; despite the fact that I live in Raleigh, I am not an NCSU fan, I've been a Tar Heels fan since I was 10. Speaking of which, James Michael McAdoo is a BEAST. Little Zeller will have his hands full on November 27th, Jackson.

I actually like that UNC isn't getting a lot of love. They lost some elite talent, but their young guys last year got a ton of experience being part of Roy's big rotation (which is constant and deep).
I'm most excited to see James McAdoo (second cousins with NBA legend Bob McAdoo), a SF/PF who got limited snaps because of the depth in front of him. Watching him reminds me of Kevin McHale, his game is so polished and he has a huge arsenal down low on the block. I think UNC can shock a lot of people and steal the ACC this year. They'll need a little luck and for McAdoo to make a big leap, but I wouldn't write them off yet.

I can't wait to watch IU take it this year, Crean's done an amazing job rebuilding the program after years of dissapointment. It sucks not getting tickets to the UNC game though because that'll be the best assessment of how good IU actually is and the only actually big game until january. Fun random side fact, apparently Watfords in my math class, only seen him once actually in class though.
Rocco I didn't know you were an IU kid too. Let's go get drunk sometime.
Also a great Zeller story: my roommate's girlfriend was a TA last year in this business finite math class that he was in. He was apparently a fantastic student and legitimately pushed an 100% in the course all semester. So anyway on the third huge test, my roommate's GF sees Zeller and this other student quietly talking which is a huge no-no. Walks back to break it up and discovers that Cody is actually the one saying everything. She had to break up The Big Handsome explaining things to another kid during this huge exam. The star of the number one team in the nation, and consensus preseason POY & #1 draft pick was actually the one who understood everything. Ridiculous swag.

Perhaps you weren't listening when I responded to Kyle - Fear the Freakin' Turtle.
The move to the SEC has not the Missouri football team any favors but we should fair well with basketball. Have some size in the paint now that we sorely missed last year.

So how about that move the the Big 10? Apparently the conference wants to become even more mediocre in football.

I think NC State is really talented and has a lot of potential this year, but until they can find a way to shake the loser mentality and get some leadership from their vets, I'm not going to put a lot of stock in them.
Their freshman are incredible, and their vets are very talented, but there has been solid talent in Raleigh for years now w/o anything to show for it. I think they can compete for the ACC and be a factor come March, but I'm not sold on them being the best team in the conference until they consistently show it on the court.

Sorry for the double post, the first was topic specific, this one more open ended.
I think the landscape for basketball is going to be a lot different by the time the tournament rolls around. I think some of the teams will still be there, I just think there will be more recognize contenders when the bracket comes out.
I could probably list 10 teams that are Final Four quality right now, and another ten that could be by the end of the season. Kentucky and UNC will be fine. They are both young and erratic but things will smooth out over the year. UNC has been jacking up a lot of threes early in the season, but you have to play to your strengths and other than Macadoo, they have little inside presence. A few traditional powers are flying a little under the radar by their standards (Syracuse, Duke, Kansas, Michigan St, UNC) but I think they could all be there in the end.
If I had to pick a Final Four right now, it would be:
1. Indiana 2. Kansas 3. Duke 4. Lousiville
Although, there are some teams that are a bad matchup for Lousiville and could hand them a rough defeat, I still think they are a top team. Should be a fun season.
I don't think Arizona is getting the respect it deserves. Hopefully the game against Florida next month will change that. I have been paying attention to this team a lot of the off season and the early games and I think we have an unbelievable amount of talent. On top of that we have some great leadership and maturity even with 3 freshmen getting sizable playing time.

For sure! As long as you don't mind drinking with a freshman.
Back on topic though, today's game against Georgia was stressful to say the least. It was a relief when they finally pulled together the second half and started to play like a team again. Hopefully they get their shit together before playing Georgetown. On a related note I'm relieved that UCLA lost, although an IU vs UCLA game would have been a great early season test for them.

Considering UCLA squeaked out a home OT win against UC Irvine last week, it's probably safe to say that #11 ranking is a little undeserving.
Jackson, how long have you been at IU/ an avid follower of them? Any chance you remember Eli Holman?
The name sounds super familiar. Eli Holman played on that 2008 team that is seriously one of my favorite things of all time. It was so goddang terrible. This kid from my high school was a walk-on that year and I loved Tijan Jobe.
I started following IU when I was in middle school during the 2006 season. I grew up in Lafayette and I started rooting for IU to spite all my gung-ho Purdue friends. Also loved Bracey Wright.
Best college hooper this year James Michael McAdoo
Standard 95-49 victory tonight.
CASUAL.
A nice little tune-up against Butler before the showdown. I hope your boys are ready, Jackson.
(FWIW, I think Zeller 100% has a "screw always growing up in big brother's shadow, I'm going to destroy his team even if he's not on it anymore" game....so that'll suck)

Did you know Holman?
meh, relatively. He ended up transferring to my school (small mid-major) after Sampson left and just overall is a pretty terrible person. He is, however, part of one of the weirder sports stories that I can remember, when it was reported that he threw a plant at Tom Crean in a private meeting while requesting a transfer. I still get a kick out of it.
By the way, anyone of you UNC fans that feels like driving a million hours and dropping a million bucks to see the Tar Heels lose by ten at Assembly is welcome to stay at our apartment.
