The new Sufjan Stevens is horribly sad in places, but very beautiful. Ugh, not something I can listen to on a regular basis. It's almost TOO personal and real.
Giving the new MM first full run through right now and will relay thoughts after.
And yeah, the new SS is heartbreaking. I cried through most of it. "Death with Dignity" and "The Only Thing" both SLAY ME, my god. It is gorgeous though - what an impressive album

This Is A Long Drive..., The Lonesome Crowded West, and The Moon & Antarctica are desert island selections for me. A perfect trilogy. They've gotten me through some hard times, and also the good times. I couldn't help but have unrealistically high expectations for Strangers To Ourselves. As expected, despite a few enjoyable moments here and there, my pipe dream that old-school Modest Mouse would return have been proven to be just that. Still spending time with it to let it really soak in, though.
Carrie & Lowell I have only listened to a couple of times yet, but it is really good. Somewhat Benjiesque: stripped-down musically, depressing content. I loved the sound of The Age Of Adz and was a little unsure how to take a return to Sufjan's folk roots, but it went more smoothly than anticipated for my ears.

Its interesting that my MM trilogy is Lonesome Crowded West, M&A and Good News. I got into them with Good News and it just worked out that way. Though I love the beginning and end of Long Drive, the middle really sags for me.
Anyway, I do like the new album much more than We Were Dead. The first half is pretty strong. But they will never be what they use to be. I suppose Lonesome Crowded West and Moon and Antarctica weren't really replaceable anyway. Those albums are pretty much perfection.
Finally got a listen to the new Pyramids album. If there is a "it came outta left field album", this is it.
While I know Inforoo isn't a metal kinda place, don't let this intimidate you into not listening. It incorporates soooo many different styles that it's FAR from a metal album.
I'm somewhat expecting Kendrick to blow everything away, but right now this is this months' front runner IMO
Sufjan and Kendrick are pretty close 1st and 2nd for me, respectively. I don't think anything will take it from Suf for me - I've waited 5 years for the emotional perfection of an album that is Carrie and Lowell. But GOD, Kendrick brought it.

I'm gonna need to listen to Sufjan and Kendrick a lot over the course of the next two weeks before voting. Sufjan moves me more but Kendrick is gonna take some time to process lyrically.
5.5/four tet, daphni b2b floating points, avalon emerson 5.12/neil young 5.19/mannequin pussy 5.21/serpentwithfeet 5.25/hozier 6.12-16/bonnaroo 6.28/goose 6.29/goose 9.17/the national + the war on drugs 9.23/sigur ros 9.27-29/making time 10.17/air
On my second listen, this album is transcendent. Anyone else wonder if Kendrick asked Thom Yorke if he was okay about the blatant use of Pyramid Song in the song The Cost of a Dollar? I just learned how to play Pyramid Song this weekend so this similarity was a great treat to me

They're such drastically different albums, I almost hate even trying to compare them. Both albums are incredible pieces of art in their own regard and do what they individually set out to do masterfully.
What will really be interesting is when the new Kanye drops... and then comparing THAT with Kendrick's.

This lady gets it.
Hearing that from you makes me feel very honored. You have, like, a lot of posts and stuff

I thought one of the songs like a radiohead song. Good to know I wasn't the only one to hear that. If Flying Lotus had his hands on that song, then I would think they got the green light to sample.
Guess everyone forgot that Courtney Barnett is releasing an album this month.
This month is fucking STACKED. That's why I can't believe people are posting their picks already. I get you're excited about the release, but at least give it a few days to marinate in your brain, and let that shiny newness wear off a smidge.
I've been waiting for the new Kendrick since GKMC first came out. The years of anticipation plus the complete satisfaction are not something I think I can put anything else above.
Ok, so I've been a bit slack on listening to new stuff this month. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to finding new music, so if it's not on Spotify I may or may not listen to it. I know, I know... Anyway, does anyone know where I can stream the new Sufjan without downloading it? Also, what do I need to listen to?

To Pimp a Butterfly just torched Drizzy, Yeezy, and Weezy seasons. This is not just the rap album of the month. I think this is the rap album of the decade.

I'm not sure about streaming to be honest - sure you don't want to just download it? You won't regret itttt.
