Shit town is phenomenal. Weirdly, though, I can't get it to stream on my podcast app anymore. They might have taken it down or put it behind a paywall or something. Same deal for Analyze Phish recently.
Sucks. Those are two of the most re-listenable pods for me.
No idea about S-Town but Analyze Phish is definitely behind a paywall. I got Stitcher Premium when they were offering a year for like $10. It's worth googling around for a discount code and if I see that pop up again I'll post it in here.
Stitcher has both Analyze Phish and S-Town as well as the rest of the Earwolf and WTF archives, among others.
Yeah, I need to get Stitcher. Please do keep an eye out. I'm already committed to like thirty bucks a month in streaming services right now. Thank you.
I am just using a basic podcast player called podcast player. I haven't had any issues with anything that I have tried to listen to. My girl says she can't access the archived Black Tape episodes that I am currently listening on...but I know nothing about any of this shit.

Anyone else on here listen to Hollywood Handbook? I've discovered it recently, and I really feel like it was tailor-made to fit my sense of humor exactly.
None of my real life friends have listened, and I'm really not sure how to describe it in a way that sounds at all appealing. But it might actually be the funniest thing ever (possible exception for Nathan for You)
Does anyone listen to the greatest Podcast about In and outs of Hamilton Highschool? I'm talking BIG GRANDE's TEACHER"S LOUNGE. Any fans of CBB should definitely be listening to this nonsense

I love Teachers lounge. So good.
Yeah WAYYYY better than those Hacks over at the Preacher's Lounge... Fuck those guys
real fans probably already know this but i'm just a casual fan. Last Podcast on the Left is doing Jonestown for it's 300th episode. Looks like it's gunna be a four parter. I'm just on pt 1 and it's great so far.
LPotL is pretty great. Those dudes are savages. I'll probably start that right now. Thanks for the heads up.
Edit: Oh boy. If the first episode length is any indication, this thing is gonna be like seven hours long. We're getting the OJ: Made in America treatment.

I checked out a new podcast this morning. It’s called “Never Seen It” with Kyle Ayers. Would recommend. He brings on a guest to rewrite a movie or tv show they’ve never seen. The first episode is The Shining with Amy Miller.
It’s brand new. Only one or two episodes are up, but I really enjoyed starting my day laughing til I cried.
“S-Town”’s John B. McLemore’s Ambient Music Released: Listen Witness Marks features field recordings and remixes of work by painter/musician Tor Lundvall
I feel like guests are a huge thing that gets me into new podcasts. That's definitely going to be a hard thing to accomplish as a start-up, but it's something I'd work towards. I'm just getting my feet wet with podcasting myself. I haven't released anything, but I'm experimenting with audio recording and editing.

By guests, do you mean big-time guests or smaller guests? I could look into featuring decently sized electronic acts as guests, but otherwise we'd be limited to our friends and family for the most part.
Can you pay for placement in trending/recommendations areas such as the Pocket Casts Discover tab?
Potentially, where can that be found? Ideally would love to promote our podcast without paying to play.
Where are you publishing your podcasts? When I put out a few episodes of one a few years ago it was hosted on Podbean. You could pay to have your podcast featured on their various feeds and stuff. I know you don't want to pay a ton but it's worth researching a bit.
Regarding your guests... you can get smaller acts to talk to you. You'd be surprised what people will do if you're willing to do a little leg work and give them some promo. Build relationships with their press people and I bet you'd be surprised who you can book after a while. Also anyone involved in another capacity with your local scene who might have an interesting story.
Other than that... look for other places you can promo yourself online. Get involved in as many convos as you can and promote your podcast when appropriate.

I pretty much mean anyone you can get at first, moving in the direction of local artists and then trying to get bigger names. I think music writers and just people that have a lot of thoughts on music are good, and if they have a following, they'll probably draw ears to your show. I also think those people are going to be pretty likely to come on your show. They want to talk about music and have people hear them.
Finished LPotL’s Jonestown series yesterday. They did such a good job.
i finished it yesterday. really great stuff. very funny of course but also insightful.
some of those jonestown tapes are the worst bits of audio ever.
jonestown and the people's temple is a great example that unwavering adherence to any idea, even if it starts out as a good idea, can result in terrible consequences. it's so important to practice mindfulness and be aware of what is going on around you.
anyway i can't get enough of the last podcast cult stuff so i'm doing the Children of God series now.
you seem to be a big Last Podcast fan, I've only listened to the albert fish and black metal episodes, any others you'd recommend?

Unwavering adherence to any idea or, more importantly and perhaps relevantly, any person

Absolutely.
Unfortunately, while many times bad ideas die with the person, sometimes the bad ideas live on, i.e. Scientology, and other examples I won't get into since this isn't the politics thread.

So far we're only publishing on Mixcloud. Are there other places you'd recommend? I'll research a bit to see what's up, if it's not too much then perhaps.
Good point on the smaller acts. Tampa's not a super thriving music scene, but it has its cool, local artists and promoters. My co-host lives in Charlotte, and they're kinda the same in that way.

Jonestown was the first ones I've listened to. It's always been one that I kept meaning to get into but just never did. Just saw they have an L. Ron Hubbard series (I'm a sucker for Scientology), so I'll probably listen to that next and then move to the next cult. The Black Metal ones sound really interesting. Might pepper in some serial killers.
I fell down a hole scrolling through all the episodes and found that, as a bonus episode in 2015, Last Podcast posted the Jonestown Death Tapes in their entirety. Not sure if I'm ready for that, but it's there. It's episode 64.
