What's the plan for this fest if it is completely and utterly rained out? It's going to rain/thunderstorm here nonstop for three straight days starting tomorrow. That really sucks
I'm not going to BUKU, but I'm heavily thinking about going to Gasa Gasa tomorrow for the Dance Yourself Clean event. I imagine there will be a decent amount of BUKU folks trying to squeeze in there. Any of y'all going?

. We are hitting Zoogma and Freddie Todd at Howlin Wolf. As for the rains, bring it on. I think it will be off and on, and hopefully that if anything gets cancelled, it's only 1 or 2 main stage acts. I plan on wearing a raincoat and converses. So I don't really care if I get wet. Otoh, the majority of the fest is indoors or on concrete. The Front Porch will be a disaster again like it was last year when it rained for a couple of days before hand. :fingers crossed:
2024: The Floozies, Phyphr, Disco Biscuits, Cimafunk, WSMFP, The Killers, Cory Wong, Dumpstaphunk, Bomba Estereo, Molly & Golden Hwy, Big Freedia, Payton/Nth Power, A.P&TFN
My BUKU ticket is still available. If you know anyone looking for ONE (1) Buku ticket, please have them hit me up.
Everyone I know has them. I got a few Baauers that I'll let go at cost. I'm hoping to not have to go to the Republic tomorrow and stand out there. It's gonna be wet as fuck. That's 2 straight rainy ass fests for me, latest guidance is 6-14" of rain over the next 2 days but it really depends on where the heaviest rain sets up (hopefully west or east of the city).

I think this cute little hippie is going to take it off my hands for $200. I am calling him once I get off of work at 5 and he will be in NOLA at 8pm. I told Jeremy he has to go with me for the exchange, since it is at a shitty motel. I have not responded to a couple of people and turned down $175 for this hippie, so he better not screw me over. Once I actually talk to him at 5 hopefully it will be a done deal, otherwise I will be taking a loss.
Get that deal done? We are heading out around 10 for Zoogma. Late Night Function lists their events through 5am Sunday morning, so I'm thinking show starts around 11. Dj an hour, DJ an hour, DJ an hour and 2 sets of Zoogma. That puts it around 3:45/4:00am. Ugh. Shit will be off to a rocky start ( \m/ ) and I don't feel all that great anyway. :help;

hah.. have some fun for me man! finally kicked that sickness i've been dealing with and am amped for tomorrow
Just woke up. Bad move. Haha. We got home just before 4. Zoogma kicked ass as anticipated and ended with Who Run It? Freddy Todd was second to last and ended up doing a duet set with Russ Liquid. Russ brought out the sax, flute, trumpet, some other brass keys and he dj'd too. Solid set.

Glad you got rid of that ticket! Especially considering you'd be fucked getting rid of it today.
Nervous about driving in today. Gonna stay in tonight and Book of Mormon tomorrow night.
That was my biggest fear. There are a ton of tickets for sale on the BUKU page now. Some as cheap as $150. The cute little hippie might have almost blow the deal, but thank god for his deep seated desire to get that fucking ticket.
Can anybody in New Orleans give an update on what the actual city is like (pertaining to so many areas in LA flooding). I have a few friends on their way down there that were tyring to find some updates.
It rained overnight until maybe 6ish this morning. Seems most of the time the real bad stuff goes north of us. I don't know what the rest of the day's looking like, but no big deal so far. I think there are some folks in Broadmoor without power but that could be any random day of the week here.

Appreciate it. It looks like rain all day still but didn't know if the flooding has hit NO like other parts of the southern half of the state.
Looks like we sort of dodged a bullet here though it is likely to rain off and on all weekend. I'm pretty jacked up about today.

Glad y'all didn't get rained out, weather ended up being great Saturday. Caught my first cabbage! Book of Mormon was awesome. Had last row tickets, which I self-upgraded to 4th row center.

Started Friday with local stoner punk band Donovan Wolfington from the boat. That was the first time I've seen them and they were decent. Next was G Jones that I thought was pretty standard, but a lot of people liked that set. Next was Break Science who ruled as always. After that was Anderson.Paak and the free nationals. That was a pretty great show that mixed rock and rap elements. I didn't "love" every song, but overall it was pretty good. I wandered around for a while and went and posted up for Keno/Mystikal/Juvy That shit was raucous. Keno brought out some big booty bitches up to dance. One of them 2 people couldn't put their arms around it. Haha. Saw a couple minutes of Jai Wolf and went to Baauer. Baauer is always great so that was fun. After that I saw some of Kid Cudi. Production work was great. It was kind of a chill set though nothing great or terrible. Caught about 10 minutes of Above & Beyond who was better than I thought they would be. Wandered a bit and went to GRiZ. That was the day's best show. GRiZ loves NOLA and we love him. So then we went to the GRiZ/Break Science after party. That was great. Jammed a bit, Mystikal came out and rapped a couple of songs and then they just jammed. GRiZ stayed in on sax. Pretty fucking great. Day 2, final thoughts or whatever later

Book of Mormon was awesome. Had last row tickets, which I self-upgraded to 4th row center.
How was the show? I'm thinking about buying tickets to it pretty soon.
It's 100% worth seeing. Apparently there are two productions of it running right now, the one I saw in nola is going up to Memphis next, and then Midwest I think. There is a West Coast production going right now as well. The one I saw had this fat goofy guy as one of the main Mormons and he was epic. Can't say if the other production would have an actor as good as him.
Regardless, the play itself was a riot, and extremely memorable. I haven't been to a play since HS garbage I was forced to go to, so if you aren't into theater this is still super enjoyable.
Got there and went and hit the bar on the boat. Watched NGHTMRE. He was decent and covered some Jack U, Baauer, RL, etc. It was nothing great, but it sounded decent. Next was head over to the Front Porch for the Chef Freedia Showcase. We weren't really sure what they were going to do, but I told my people I was going get on TV. So we were hanging out watching some dj spin with all the Buku dancers doing their thing. Then the Danger Boys came out and danced for a while. Katey Red and her entourage were back stage partying. So we hung out there for a while, but nothing much was happening. They said Magnolia Rome (sp?) and Katey were on the bill, but not necessarily if they were doing anything or just there. So we had to leave that with an hour or two to go and walked by Freedia's food booth to get some Booty Poppin' Potatoes (which was potatoes and sausage over rice). Katey was standing behind the booth, so I hit her with a "Hey", she looked at me, busted out the megaphone and blasted me back with a "Hey" which is her signature thing. I fist pumped and was walking away when FUSE came up to me to sign a release to be on Season 5 of Freedia. I'm not sure if it was the interaction with Katey or if they saw us dancing earlier. I'm hoping that's not the case since I wasn't drunk and therefore not dancing. My niece runs up to me and tells me she's going to be on tv too. I wasn't sure why, but when I asked my daughter, apparently my niece was twerking and Freedia hit her with a, "Damn, she got a big old booty." hahahaha. I'm not sure that's what I'd want to be on tv for, but hahahahahaha because she does have a big one.
Next up was What So Not which was as expected, loud and hard at times. Future was after that. There were some celebrities in VIP for that one. Trombone Shorty saw me and came over and shook my hand, and there were other random rappers and musicians and such. Future had the crowd going pretty well. He was there with a DJ. I can never understand much of what he raps, but it was a pretty cool set. After that was Feed Me. Feed Me had a good light show and was going pretty hard. I walked over to catch about 10 minutes of Earl Sweatshirt to give him another chance, but it just seemed like he was failing. I don't know if he doesn't translate well for the city or whatever. I caught a few minutes of Miike Snow but wasn't paying much attention. Then we went over to Yellow Claw which was a lot of hype. They sounded decent. We next went and posted up for Pretty Lights Live. It was a little fuzzy, but I remember liking that set. Lastly we went to Datsik who was probably top DJ set of the weekend for me besides Pretty Lights. After that we headed over to the Joy for the aftershow. I made it pretty late but apparently was somewhat misbehaving and don't really member too much after Break Science. I was told that Pretty Lights did a secret set underneath the I-10 at Annunciation and saw some footage of it yesterday. That was between his Buku set and the after party set so sometime between 11-1ish. That would have been cool to see, but only one of crowd went to that.
All in all a solid Buku. We had fun. It was great meeting with, jamming with and running into Munchingmillenial76, Damoss, Jabco, Radiatebased and billion. Fun times had.

Who needs BUKU tickets when you can hear it clear as a bell in your backyard? Saturday night was bumping apparently.
Haha. Yeah. It was pretty fun this year again. I know you had issues with the synth-pop heavy lineup. But there was still plenty of rap and EDM and at least a little rock.
Final thoughts would be I only saw 1 fight, and it was two guys scrapping on the ground just wrestling. Cop was there immediately, and broke it up and let them go. I walked past and "C'mon Man'd" the participant. I trolled plenty of people in foreign NFL jerseys but it was all good natured. A couple of other people told me they saw a minor fight or two, but for the most part everyone seemed behaved. One guy got kicked off the VIP boat, and then I did see the stretcher roll around a few times, but I never saw anyone getting wheeled out (sure it happened though). Weather was cooperative, VIP was great again. At some points for the headliner sets (e.g. Future, Pretty Lights, Cudi, etc.) the boat bars got a little packed. I'm not complaining too much on that though since you could get a glass of whiskey on ice (or a triple) to sip on for a while.
Don't know if I should do a Top 10 based on memory alone, but I'd give it:
1) Pretty Lights Live @ Buku 2) Griz at Buku 3) Griz Afterparty Superjam 4) Pretty Lights alternative analogy set 5) Keno/Juvenile/Mystikal 6) Datsik 7) Break Science 8) Bauuer 9) Future 10) Anderson.Paak & Free Nationals

#2. with the exception of some idiots on Saturday night, really had zero issues with the crowds. On saturday, you couldn't use a vertical ID to purchase alcohol; i have a restriction on my license and its vertical.. was crazy that I had to ask my 24 year old buddy to buy me a drink; im 33.. talked to the ATF people out there and there were plenty of fakes going around and hence the restriction
#3. thank ya BUKU gods for the weather.. wasnt the nicest of weekends, but wasnt uber hot, and the rain stayed away for the majority
#4. can we just make Griz a NOLA resident and make him stay down here and play every other weekend or something? that BUKU show was absolutely bananas.. One of the best I've seen in a long time
So many good/great acts this weekend IMO; was blown away by Break Science.. was the 1st time I got to see them live and they did not disappoint.. Neither did my #1 going into the weekend, NERO.. actually met a buddy of mine who is a local DJ in NOLA and we went check out W & W at the metro Friday night.. Wasnt bad, wasnt great.. Skipped on a late night show Saturday since I had to be fully functional early Sunday morning..
All in all was another epic job by BUKU..
** was going to list more opinions on acts, but im just tired of typing.....
Alright first of all shouts out esteban for letting me stay at his place which helped make my trip very non expensive! Buku was amazing! Here's my recap
Friday: Okay so the plan was to camp at the Power Plant stage all day to be up front for CHVRCHES and Kid Cudi. Considering most people don't camp at the stages at Buku this isn't a very hard task to achieve. But my brain was really questioning my decisions during Donovan Wolfington, as it was pretty miserable in that rain. But I gotta say....I enjoyed Post Malone afterwards way more than I'd actually like to admit. After being sort of paranoid and unsure of myself, Post Malone cheered me right up. I guess I'm a sucker for goofy fun rap shows. It was also my first interaction with my would be "soulmate" at the festival (this'll come into play later). After Post I was able to grab the rail for CHVRCHES. I tried to impress Lauren Mayberry with my coordinated dance moves to all of their songs, I think she might have noticed me. I got so excited every time she came back to my section of the crowd to sing. This is also when me and my "soulmate" started to really vibe and get to know each other. She and her friend left after CHVRCHES though. I stayed through Above & Beyond which was very good....just not totally my thing. But it was soooo worth it to still be on the rail for Kid Cudi. I know it got mixed reviews (which I expected anyways) but for me this was a religious experience. He sang Mr Rager directly to my face and I sang it to his. Kid Cudi is basically responsible for the music I listen to now, my whole lifestyle, and the reason I even go to music festivals. To put this in perspective I'm only 21, and my fist concert ever without my parents was in 2011 to see Kid Cudi. His production and performance was so electric that I didn't even care when he performed the new songs. Fuck it I even sang along. After Cudi...I was starting to head over to Griz....but then I just couldn't help myself and went to see Rae Sremmurd which ended up being one of the funnest shows of the weekend. Crazy mosh pits going almost the entire time. The girl I met at the Power Plant stage was also up front for this show, and Rae Sremmurd randomly gave them a pineapple.
Saturday: Okay so who's this "soulmate" person I'm talking about...okay so here's where this comes into play. I really didn't have much to do for the first few hours on Saturday. So I waited by the Ballroom Stage (before they even opened it) to see Casey Veggies, who used to be a member of Odd Future in the very early days, but has since then become very poppy and mainstream sounding. It was really just out of pure curiosity that I went to go see him...and who was there....the girl I was on the railing with for 4 hours the day before...and here we are...on the railing again. She mentioned the day before how much she was looking forward to Earl Sweatshirt, and I was like holy shit you're camping out for Earl today (I was also wearing my Earl Sweatshirt t shirt). Her and her friends were camping that stage from 4-1am. My plan was to go see some of Future, and then come back 20-30 minutes before Earl, but she convinced me to stay at that stage (which honestly wasn't very hard to do at this point). After Casey Veggies who was still corny but fun...was Borns. Like I don't even care for Borns, but I was just so happy during that time I enjoyed the shit out of their set. In between Borns and Earl I was thinking to myself "damn I could be at Future right now, or I can just be sitting here sharing a corndog and some french fries with my soulmate...I think I like the second option". Earl Sweatshirt ended up being an awesome show. His dj opened up with the trippiest...almost FLyLo sounding music for like 20 minutes before his set even started. Earl's set wasn't perfect as there were a lot of technical difficulties with the speakers, and I was kinda sad he didn't do any of the old stuff at all (like Earl, Orange Juice, and Drop). But it was still a good time. What I like about Earl is he's authentic, he's not fake excited when he goes on stage. I mean I know some people would prefer the corny chants and "left side make noise, right side make noise" sort of thing, but I just kinda liked it when during technical difficulties Earl was just like "uhhhhh so why don't you guys do some soccer chants or something". Purity Ring afterwards was good...but that bass was so overwhelming. I think there were probably issues with the speakers in the Ballroom just in general. Then I literally missed Pretty Lights just to stay with my soulmate (I've already seen Pretty Lights three times so it wasn't a huge deal). No regrets because Cashmere Cat and Trippy Turtle were incredible. Cashmere even dropped two Life of Pablo songs (Wolves and Waves) which made me soooooo happy and I would've missed if I were at Pretty Lights. Then ASAP Ferg was the perfect finale. So much moshing, crowd surfing and chaos. Ferg even shook my hand at the very beginning of the show. At this point I pretty much spent the entire festival with this one girl. She lives in northern Louisiana and I live in Atlanta, so it's not like anything was going to come of this. But it was still very very cool to meet someone I could vibe and dance with....and also someone I could get turnt and mosh with. So that was a cool experience. So yeah in conclusion Buku 2016 was definitly a successes.
