I've seen DMB, Phish, Foo Fighters, and Pearl jam all there. All were awesome shows. Great production set ups and great sound. Zero issue with any of them. I was on the field for DMB and Foos, 200 level for PJ and 100 level for Phish and didn't have any sound issues with any of them.
Right on, I've been in the nosebleeds and right in front, sound is always spot-on. It's a great place for a show. Who's on your radar?
So far this year the only things I have on deck for sure are Run The Jewels, Bonnaroo, Roger Waters, Lolla, and possibly Voodoo. If Perfect Circle and Soundgarden hit up that new Open Air festival in Bridgeview, I'll probably hit that up too. Those 2 acts seem to be at all of those rock/metal fests popping up. DMB is usually an automatic trip for us but they're taking the year off.
Dolly's fundraiser for fire victims in the Smokeys has raised $9 million and more coming in. They are giving the money to needy folks starting today! That is a huge wow. I haven't got thru the three hours of DVR yet but, Chris Stapleton and his wife Morgane are incredible singer-songwriters.
Some really good shows coming to Nashville. Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, 40 Years - The Last Waltz with Warren Haynes, OCMS for New Years at Ryman, TTB this spring. Need to get my tickets soon. OCMS sold out.

I live about fifteen minutes from Roo. Got a lot of friends needing help with concessions, parking, etc. Last year the heat and dust were hard on old dudes like me. I think @goldenchords would second that assessment. I prefer to go in and out.

B'roo no matter the lineup?...do you guys camp?
Lookin like it. I'm okay with the rumored top 3. Been wanting to see U2 for a long time so that'll be a nice band to check off the bucketlist. Plus most seem to think The XX and Chance will be there too. The undercard would have to be atrocious for everyone in our group. We are camping but we're renting an RV outside of Manchester to ease that process a bit. Plus I've never gone so it's something I do want to experience while I can.

First year going too. Typically do voodoo, hangout, and free press, but hangout lost me this year. Bringing a pop up camper with me and I purchased the power pass. I know it's over priced, but I don't know dick about generators and don't want to deal with gas cans. Plus I'm hoping the power pass spots are close to centeroo. They should be for their price.
Bonnaroo is great for what it is, but it was a giant change from the hippie fest of 2012 to the right of passage high 5 fest of 2015. I'm not a fan of the farm and don't think the VIP is worth it at all. But you will see great and varied up shows. Some of the food in the food truck area is great. Snake and Jakes rolls late night. And there are nice people you will meet, camp near and party with. But it's honestly one of my least favorite festivals particularly compared with what was Waka.

What's your favorite? You doing Hangout this year? I feel like we reached peak festival in the early 2010's and we're never going to see the lineups that we use to. Just look at (what I consider at least) the drop off hangout's had since '14.
Favorite was Wakarusa. VIP had snacks, food, beer and ale with bars in VIP, wide open camping, front row, shade and a lack of dust, no hassles, etc. Bear Creek at Suwanee 14 was up there because of the crowd and also the level of musicianship and what they accomplish with the collaborations. Voodoo is always a blast, so I never don't have a bang up time. The whole family is blowing off Hangout this year. It's just not the same quality of booking so f them. I am looking forward to this weekend though. Just the idea of some next level shit is cool.

Yeah. I got my kids that for Christmas so we are heading that way tomorrow. We are gonna get there early enough to grab some BBQ and maybe do some shopping before the Pels v rockets game and then it's whatever until Saturday at 3. Then it's on.

pretty great gift. Hoping for some last minute tickets off Craigslist for a steal. If not, it isn't really my scene.
I know this is irrelevant for most of you (or even positive news) but I just noticed on their site that only kids 5 and under are admitted free. Last year it was 10 and under and in years before that it was 12 and under. When the festival first started they would often promote it as a family friendly fest on their website and in interviews/articles (they had the kids stage the first 3 or so years). I think it's interesting how that's evolved. It now says "This is an adult event" on their site. We've enjoyed taking our young kids since 2011 because the beach makes it easy to enjoy music with them since they can play in the sand if not into the show. We definitely noticed the crowd last year was less kid-friendly. Might not be a family trip much longer!

I actually like to camp. Love waking up to Roo even if it awakening in a pool of sweat. I just was wicked sick last year and probs should have stayed home. On the plus side Bob a pet scan head to toe last month showed no sign of cancer so that was a pretty big relief. The kindness of my groopies and some inforoosters helped get me thru til Sunday morning and then I just couldn't go any farther. Only saw 11 sets last year. Less than half of my average.
I mean, doing late nights and then it's 85 degrees at 6:00am is why I can't take it anymore. And like Bob mentioned, the dust is brutal as well. And I agree with Esteban on the crowd except that I think it changed well prior to 2012. Maybe last year is an indication that it's not 'hip' anymore, but they'll probably respond with another lineup that's all over the place.

Looking like I will be hitting up a few in-doors shows next year and not so much festivals. I love the Ryman in Nashville and Tivoli in Chattanooga. These two were my hands down favorite performers of 2016 with Jason and Amanda Shires-Isbell a close second. Morgans Stapleton does not get the credit she deserves. What a voice!
I would love to see Hangout change promoters again. When does GV's contract expire? Maybe we could do a go fund me like the time we pooled or resources and bought Zen a ticket, which he didn't need, but it was a cool experience. One of the things I liked about Hangout was seeing families at the festival. I know a lot of parents who have spent the night in the ER or looking for their "kids" at Bonnaroo late at night. With Hangout opening at 11:00 am and closing at 11:00 pm with fireworks it seems more family oriented format wise. Smaller crowd makes a difference too.
I don't know, I wish someone else would pick it up though. They're going to be in the running for my least favorite lineup of any festival in 2017.If someone else gets hangout, I just need them to keep the bathroom accommodations from GV going. I thought those were on point this last year.

And I was reading last night how the city of gulf shores renewed the festival's permit under conditions that protect the city's family friendly environment. But I guess that doesn't mean the festival itself has to be super family friendly.
Why would Hangout or Goldenvoice want to stop their agreement? They're making money hand over fist, selling out yearly and not having to put much effort into putting out a unique lineup. It's a promoter/businessman's dream.

I'm sure they're making a lot. But I don't think they've actually sold out since '14. Last year they said the "sold out" but a ton of tickets mysteriously hit stub hub that day for the same price Hangout was selling them for.
My guess is the unloaded all their tickets for a steep discount to a reseller a week before the festival so they could call it a sell out. But that could just be foil hat talk.

This is what people just don't seem to grasp. Hangout could give two shits what anybody on a internet discussion board think about their lineup. They look at their profit and say talk all the shit you want, we're accomplishing what we're paid to do: make money for the festival.

I'm assuming you weren't there last year because I'm pretty sure they sold over the capacity. It was packed af. Most packed I can remember over the last 5 years I've gone.

I didn't go last year so only talking from people have said here but most people indicated the crowd was much larger than the previous two years.

Nope, I was there. I thought it seemed less crowded than I had been accustomed to. I got on the beach at the bud light tent around 3 or so in about half an hour. I remember Blu in 14 taking forever. Getting into the festival didn't take that long on any day other than Friday.
I also hung out in the back most of this festival in sand couches along the fence line, so that could be why it didn't seem so packed. That and how quick the in and out of the restroom. I still think things were more crowded 13/14 though.

13 had no one there compared to 14 and 15. That crowd was tiny. It was my first year and I was shocked how packed it was the next time down.

14 definitely felt like peak hangout for me. I don't know that I've ever been stuffed into a smaller venue with as many people in my life. I remember it taking 45ish minutes just to get out of the wiz khalifa crowd. And some girl sitting on a blanket in the middle of where everyone was trying to walk and punching peoples feet if they got too close to her blanket.
I kicked a nice amount of sand directly in her eyes when she swung for my foot.
