Nicolas Jaar Launches Mysterious Radio Network The site features various channels, which the user can access by typing in a number between 0 and 333. Interestingly, the only channels that work are multiples of three. (Channel 0 also works.) When the user types in a number that’s not a multiple of three, it rounds up to the nearest multiple. For example, Channel 61 becomes 63.
Each channel features unique artwork, and some station titles appear to reference his work: “Pomegranates in the sky” ties to last year’s Pomegranates, while “Aesthetic of Resistance or Resistance” alludes to the title of a book about his father’s art and work. Icons at the top of the page trigger new noises, bring up all the station names, and bring up a display indicating time spent on the site. In his statement, Jaar is coy about the platform, writing, “I will let you guys discover what this is on your own.” He does, however, recommend checking out channels 324, 195, 108, 243, 225, and 33, and ending with 333.

Umphrey’s McGee has been arranging and performing original mashups live for over eight years. It was only a matter of when, not if, these innovative concoctions would find their way into a studio. And that “when” has arrived.
Today, UM is pleased to announce ZONKEY, an album of 12 unique mashups, conceived and arranged by the band. ZONKEY is as seamless as it bizarre, playful as it is razor sharp. Bits and pieces of classic songs are culled from 40+ years of popular music from 70s Reggae to 80s Pop to 90s Metal and everywhere in between. From Radiohead mashed with Beck, The Weeknd with Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads with Bob Marley, Metallica with Gorillaz . . . nothing is off limits.
“ZONKEY clearly pays homage to some of our favorite artists and songs. While we’ve tried to reproduce the spirit of the original compositions and recordings, we’ve also tried to have some fun with the structure as we’ve often combined seemingly dissimilar musical elements to create a new vibe altogether,” notes keyboardist Joel Cummins.
In typical UM fashion, the rollout plan will be atypical. The first track debuts tomorrow and, from there, you are advised to stay tuned. Pre-order for ZONKEY begins Friday, September 9th with an official release date of Friday, November 11th. Pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee yourself earliest access to all tracks as (or before) they are released, so help UM help you by locking it in.

There's a new album from Phish coming on Oct. 7, the band's 13th, titled Big Boat, and this news is always met with some conflicted opinions from fans. Throughout an impressive career that now spans 30 years (including a couple hiatuses -> breakups -> reunions along the way), Phish is still known best for its epic live performances rather than its albums. For at least a portion of the diehard concert-collecting fanbase, new songs are more of a refined framework for the lengthy improvisations to come. But for your more casual listeners, a new Phish album also means an introduction, and a more permanent statement from the Vermont quartet — Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman. So for those who caught Phish during its recent summer tour, many of Big Boat's road-tested songs will sound familiar. For the rest of us, "Breath And Burning" is the first real taste of the record dropping in a few weeks.
"I wrote this song on the beach after our three-night run in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico last January," Anastasio tells NPR Music in an email. "I loved watching the faces of all the people dancing and splashing in the ocean while we played. I kept thinking, 'This will all end sooner or later, one way or another. So I'm gonna enjoy every last second of it while we're still here. I'm not gonna wave away the dessert cart on the Titanic. I want to be like that string quintet that kept playing while it sank."
Produced by Bob Ezrin, who also helmed 2013's Fuego, arguably Phish's most cohesive record since the '90s, "Breath And Burning" is a breezy rocker punctuated by some classic soul horn lines and a joyful key-change in the chorus that hints at future jams. And while it highlights Phish's trademark songcraft and knotty wordplay, Anastasio and the band are revealing more of themselves in the lyrics — a challenge to the band from Ezrin himself. As Anastasio sings about looming end times with celebration of life rather than with doom ("And what does it matter that the end's in sight / We're not going gently, we're going to rage with Page at the dying of the light"), it feels like one of the more personally direct songs in Phish's repertoire.
The Men released a new song Lions Den, found on Spotify, with a new album due in November. If the song is any indication, this album is going to be fucking great.
