it seems like coachella always has a better line up but it doesn't have the same atmosphere and people... Which is 50% percent of the reason I love roo
I've heard this is largely overstated by people who've been to both. At some points it apparently does get bad (such as having someone like Sufjan play before Jack U), but otherwise it doesn't seem drastically different.
I didn't think Sufjan's crowd was bad until the autotune part of Impossible Soul. Who knows maybe there were just a ton of casual Sufjan fans who were at the back of the thick of it
Coachella crowd's are fine, stay away from the Sahara Tent especially when it's dark (Exceptions: Underworld, 2manyDjs) and you'll be fine.
Good to know, I just moved to California and I enjoyed outside lands and would love to give coachella a try. Though I'm saving some vacation days for roo... just in case they deliver
I've never been to Coachella, but I watch the live streams every year religiously. The crowds always seem pretty dead. I respect that everyone enjoys live music differently, but one thing about Bonnaroo that I always enjoy is the crowd's energy. That's like half the experience for me. Of course I don't actually know what the crowds at Coachella are like because I've never been. I'm actually curious to know what the crowds are really like because I feel like the media gives a false impression. When I search Coachella on Youtube the first results will be something like "Best and Worst Dressed at Coachella!"
Also Coachella seems to get a lot of praise on this board, but I never really see people mention how some of the sets will be pretty messy at Coachella compared to other festivals. With the shorter sets it seems pretty regular for an artist to get cut off. Some of the dusty winds seem to sometimes fuck up certain sets and overall it just seems like there's more technical hiccups during these shows than at other festivals. But this is just what I've observed through live streaming. A lot of cool shit happens at Coachella it just never seems like the crowd is fully appreciating what's happening in front of them. It doesn't really give me the motivation to fly across the country to actually be there when I could just live stream it and still be able to see most of those artists later in the year. But when I watch the shows for something like Glastonbury and I see how those crowds react, it makes me actually want to be there to experience it.

That's why Glastonbury is my holy grail. I mean have you seen the gorillaz performance there,, people were setting off flares. Hopefully someday...

I think that's a pretty regular thing at Glastonbury. Oh speaking of regular things at Glastonbury....people holding flags and other people sitting on each other's shoulders seem to happen a lot at Glastonbury. Usually these sort of behaviors at festivals are really annoying. To anyone that has been, have these things at the festival annoyed you?
On another note will the crowd be anything close this at Coachella when Beyonce performs?

Crowd looked dead during Outkast on everything but Hey Ya
It is...that's why I don't have a fully formed opinion. But the videos I watch from people in the crowd also show the same thing. Plus people are always saying the crowds at Coachella aren't very good....which leads me to wonder how true this is.

The crowds really are terrible. Don't go. Stay far far away.

I'm serious though, you'd hate it. I've seen this same debate happen enough times to know that people who pre judge the bad Coachella vibez never change their minds after going. There are people at Coachella who are only there to look good and rage face in the Sahara, and there are people who are only there to see some amazing music and not give a fuck about everyone else in the crowd. If neither of those appeals to you, don't bother.

I'm actually pretty open minded about Coachella. I really meant to just point out some negative things I've observed and ask, how wrong am I about this? I had a feeling I might get made fun of, but I respect the opinions of the people here than most subreddits or Youtube vloggers. But yeah I guess Coachella isn't for me right now. I guess I'll go one day when it's a little more convenient for me to.

If you're honestly asking, outside the Sahara the crowds are pretty great. You're not gonna make 50 new best friends while watching a set, but you're not gonna get a bunch of assholes calling Kanye a gay fish either. Everyone just does their own thing.

really the only bad crowd experience i had at coachella was when 2 guys were having an obnoxiously loud conversation next to me during 'wait' of M83's set. i've experienced much worse at other fests.

been to all 3 and they all are amazing in their own way.

Outkast was fucking fantastic. If you were a casual fan maybe you would have been disappointed but the setlist was perfect and they sounded just like they did on record (weekend 2).

Rolling Stones-Kings of Leon-The Weeknd
Metallica-Arcade Fire-Kings of Leon
Justin Timberlake-Kings of Leon-The Weeknd
Drake-Arcade Fire-Kings of Leon
Lady Gaga-Arcade Fire-Kings of Leon
I'm thinking they got a big number one that hasn't played before, or a repeat act that still has it and fans still love. I'm accepting Kings of Leon based on their for dates that skip the south(most likely going to hit Okeechobee, Hangout, and then Roo). The other act has to be Arcade Fire right? It just makes sense for Roo. It's been years, they'll have a new album, and it's a great alternative to Radiohead(who they most likely wanted, but is looking unlikely based on the rumors of a mostly spring US tour, and then their recent confirmation of a Glasto spot). Any of those top 3 plus a B undercard, would get them to closer to 80,000 attendance next year.
Which one would you go to, and which one would sell more?

I would take any of these. Would prefer Timberlake or Metallica personally but they'd all be decent. Drake is the only I have no interest in whatsoever.

I'd go to Timberlake for sure, but I think he's a bit too close to The Weeknd in terms of genres. I think Stones or Metallica would sell better.
Ugh. Are we really getting KOL? I mean, I know this has been discussed, but I feel like they have no real appeal anymore and therefore can't move tickets. After a year where less than 50k tickets were sold, they're going to be looking to move tickets this year. That has to mean something better than KOL, right?
With that being said I feel like KOL & AF are too similar. Hopefully we get Stones - AF - The Weeknd. Or something along those lines. Bonnaroo seems to try and make their HLs diverse.
What was ya'lls favorite show from 2015? Mine was D'Angelo hands down. I left that shit show of a superjam after it started and I'm so glad I stumbled on D'Angelo's set. It was incredible.
Atomic Bomb & Tears for Fears
Right on. Tears for Fears was so great. Definitely put me in a great mood for Kendrick right after.

Having the stones would be amazing but I don't see how KoL is similar to arcade fire.

By being a modern rock band. Even though their music is different, they fill the same spot if Roo is shooting for diversity in its top 3. It's still definitely possible that both are booked. They would just need the third headliner to be something completely different
