It really sucks about this PWR BTTM album, though. It's decent and I imagine that if I were queer it might be a pretty great album to exist. The lyrics and stories being told are important. Oh well, I guess.
Wtf is "PWR BTTM" and what is the controversy and why would being "queer" make it better?
LBGTQ group with a ton of momentum from the music press, catchy songs about being queer, champions of equal rights and safe spaces from stage; accused sexual assaulter off stage, halting all momentum and basically removed them from existence at this point; its like how white people listen to Blacker the Berry and think "is this for me?"

Really looking forward to the new Vince Staples album. What other albums are there this month though? Spotify has bee the worst thing to ever happen to my music listening.

Perfume Genius gave the LGBT community (and non-LGBT folks) an almost perfect album this month. I kept forgetting to even listen to PWR BTTM. Hopefully, the guy can learn from his mistakes and become a better person (if the allegations are correct), though.

I agree. Perfume Genius is the better album. But PWR BTTM has straight-forward lyrics and is poppy and youth-centric enough to appeal to a younger LGBTQ audience. They're like an LGBTQ version of Panic at the Disco. They were known for being advocates for the community and for creating safe spaces during their shows. These allegations and their effects have abruptly ended that narrative. If the allegations are true, then there is a loss of heroes to a community. If they are false, what's the difference at this point?

If it's false their career was totally trashed for no reason.

Yeah, I just think their career might be trashed already, regardless of the validity of the allegations. They probably aren't going to survive this either way.
Of course, if true, that's probably a fair result. Still sucks for the fans.
Still pretty convinced this one is coming down to Slowdive/DeMarco for me. Really liked Halo. But I'm doubting Alex G, Lana, and New Order are going to change that. Maybe !!! but idk.

ya'll should check out paul weller (rock), sinjin hawke (electronic with lots of orchestral/choral samples), don bryant (memphis soul/ R&B), juana molina (weird folk stuff). I enjoyed all of those.

Juana Molina - Halo, pretty incredible. I'm not exactly a big fan of lyrics not in English, but this is one of the instances where I was not bothered by it at all.

All of her records are wonderfully weird. I saw her when she was touring the Un Dia record in 2008, and she may be even more mesmerizing in person.
So much good music this month. I'm packing up and moving back to the States at the end of the month so it's surprising I've had time to listen to so much. Going to be hard to choose this month.
I remember this happened last May as well with Radiohead, James Blake, Chance, etc..

I wish we could have another month like that again. 2017 has been a little underwhelming as a whole so far. That's not to say there haven't been some good records, but I just feel like 2016 was better to this point.
- The drummer on this Daddy Issues album seems bored out of their mind. - I haven't listened to any May releases more than once so I have no idea what's gonna happen. - I'm excited to listen to this tricot album, I don't know anything about it. - I really enjoyed Afghan Whigs' newest. - Mac DeMarco is gonna Mac DeMarco.
Well, Sandy Alex G is excellent. That's definitely my favorite I've listened to this month, at least on first listen.
Also really enjoyed Forest Swords, Do Make Say Think, and Slowdive. Was meh on Mac Demarco and Perfume Genius but I want to give the latter another chance.
I still need to check out *inhales deeply* Juana Molina, !!!, Hoops Carl Craig, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Pond, Land of Talk, Mountain Goats, Jlin, and Moon Duo. So... still a long way to go.
