Didn't Longstreth help her with some of this album, despite the break up?
Yup. Apparently a few years after the breakup but before they fell out as friends, too.
Well Longstreth didn't bother to mention that he wrote a whole album about their break up and she only found out when the single was released. So that's pretty fucked up.

Oof. I didn't know that. I'm not a fan of that DP album in both music and lyrics. This makes me like it even less.
That Coffman record feels like a fresh take on 70's AOR radio (a sound I'm admittedly smitten with). It's not gonna be my pick for June but one that will get multiple listens, I'm sure.

Is it really?
Yeah I don't get what's so awful about that. They're musicians that broke up, that's what musicians that break up do.

Ya. You date for years but keep that fact somewhat lowkey, break up, but have a working friendship where your ex boyfriend is helping produce your new album and the whole time he's writing a whole album about you and puts all your shit out there without warning? Writing the album is his right, but not saying anything about it is dick.

I liked the DP album, but i think that's also cause i was going through a shitty break up as it came out. Definitely not one of their best obviously (missing Amber DID hurt i think)

Grand public gestures airing extremely personal relationships details--good, bad, or otherwise--seem creepy and misguided to me. I think some of the songs on that album are great but the more I learn the album the more uncomfortable it makes me feel.
I listened to Jlin and respect it for what it is, but I think I just don't like footwork.
I agree. She was some crazy sounds going on and I can recognize the merit of what she's doing but I have a hard time actually listening to it. Kinda gives me a headache.

Not to mention releasing it under the dirty projectors name, which was "their" project.

Dirty Projectors is Dave's project and existed before Amber was in it.

lol yeah, what he's supposed to trash the project because he broke up with her?
also as far as "grand public gestures" go, they're not that popular and if you arent familiar with DPs to begin with you'd likely not realize that's whats going on.
Kind of similar imo to how Alex didn't kill Edward Sharpe because they kicked Jade out.

You're really trying to get All Star status, aren't ya?

Not particularly, just a handful of really high post count threads early have been really interesting.
