So, question for the floor: A friend of mine was talking to someone who works for Forest Hills Stadium, and they said that just about every show this year has been and is pretty heavily undersold...which continues the trend from last year, when they were straight-up giving tickets away to some of these shows. I'm wondering what folks' opinions are as to why. It's such a fantastic venue in which to see a show, and while one could argue lineup quality, a trend lasting this much time strikes me as about more than just the acts being booked. Is it that it's hard to get to? I live in Astoria, so it's not that hard for me, but I've had a couple of friends comment along those lines. Food and drink are pretty expensive, but I don't know that that'd be enough to sink things given that they're expensive every-damn-where in NYC.
I dunno. Thoughts?
I think it just comes down to location. I've been living in Forest Hills for 2 years now, and I now understand just how inconveniently located it is. The subway lines that run there (E/F/M/R) are the most unreliable lines in the city. The R and F never run, and the E always gets stopped randomly in the tunnels or is down for track repairs. Also it sucks driving to the venue because the residential area that it's in requires a permit to park on the streets.
Odd that shows are selling bad this year but they aren't doing any giveaways like they did last year. Although The Lumineers show did sell out, and I heard that Greta Van Fleet and Death Cab had the place pretty full.

They'll probably do giveaways at some point. I actually thought of doing their 4 shows for $100 but there's not enough I want to see (that I don't already have tickets for).

Besides what others have already said, I think it's also that some acts just won't work as well at Forest Hills. For instance, who wants to see The Chemical Brothers from tight bleacher seats at a show with an early outdoor curfew?
Also, LMAO at booking Morrissey/Interpol there, though too-large-venues apply to that entire tour.

I must say though, the one time that I attended Forest Hills and sat in the bleachers (night one of The National last fall), it was great that the place was undersold because we were able to move around and be around good crowds rather than talkers.

You've said this before but I just can't agree. Unless the screens behind them are literally so big they don't fit inside BK Steel. There is no visual/light show that is better because the venue is outdoors.
Especially since they will take the stage before it's even dark out!

I live in Brooklyn Heights and have gotten fucked over by trains only running local on the weekends. If you can catch an express, from Brooklyn/lower Manhattan, it's about a 40 min subway ride. However, there is always track work on weekends which seems to be when many of the shows are so it seems to take forever.
I can confirm GVF was pretty full, Death Cab was...probably about 65-70% full so not bad. I have no idea why Alt 92.3 had The Head & The Heart headline the 2nd day of their fest when that band has been all over the city the past 3 years and is mediocre at best but so it goes.

Watch their Glastonbury sets over the years, you’ll understand

Chemical Brothers at Barclays Center with a closed upper bowl would have been a better fit than Forest Hills.
Frankly, I'm salty that they are not playing The Anthem in DC, since that would have been a perfect venue for them (lots of GA floor space + the ability to host arena caliber productions).

I've seen them live a handful of times, so I know what the show is like

It's supposed to thunderstorm from 5pm to 3am tonight. Jones Beach has to be cancelling tonight's Jimmy Eat World/Third Eye Blind show, right?
Last time I went to Jones Beach was last August when I won tickets for Rob Zombie. It was torrential downpour and they wouldn't open the gates, but also wouldn't cancel the show. It wasn't until 9:30 that they made the announcement that it was called off. If they pull that shit again I'm burning that place down!

I don't know man but I will be bummed if this happens since getting out there is a huge pain. Definitely going to be some rain but hopefully finishes off in time for the show to begin.
For those wondering about The 1975, their manager confirmed MSG via Twitter and said it would be in 2020. The guitarist also mentioned they would be playing several radio holiday shows so hopefully that includes the Alt 92.3 one in Dec.

YO! I'm coming in from AZ for the Chem Bros show and am having trouble figuring out how to get there. My friend lives in Stony Point so I already figured it's gonna be a mission to get to and from the venue. Any ideas on what routes are the best? He said if I can get to Manhattan, he could pick me up after the show is over. Also, would it be terrible to get seats at the venue?

There's not much dancing space in the bleachers, but if you are mainly interested in seeing the show and hearing the music it may still be fine.
You could easily get from Manhattan to Forest Hills and back, but the routes will all depend on where your friend will want to pick you up since Stony Point is not that close.

Last night's Third Eye Blind/Jimmy Eat World was a mess. Because of the incoming storm they cancelled the opening act and moved JEW's set 45 minutes earlier, without any type of announcement. They also made them play an abbreviated set of 30 minutes, so by the time we got there (7:45 on the dot) they were already well over. Third Eye Blind came on over an hour early, so the place was still half empty. They kept warning that the show might get cancelled, luckily they only had to cut like 10 minutes from their set. But you could tell thousands of people strolled in half through their set confused as hell.
Went to the Rooftop at Pier 17 for the first time last night, I liked the space and that they didn't overpack it (the show was sold out). Gorgeous environment on a perfect night last night. They could do with fixing the layout at the entry though, it caused an annoying backup at security. Anyway, i was there for James, who were great as always, and Tim Booth is very interactive with the audience. Never a big fan of The Psychedelic Furs, but they were enjoyable too and have held up well musically.

Ah, sorry I didn’t run into you! My first time there, too, and I second everything you said. I loved that it didn’t feel oversold, and the Brooklyn Bridge as a stage backdrop was stunning. I’d never seen James before, and they were the highlight, for me - the new material sounded great, and the classics held up like crazy. My peak moments were the “Many Faces” sing-along and “Just Like Fred Astaire,” which soundtracked one of the great unrequited loves of my youth.
I have to admit, I didn’t really dig The Psychedelic Furs. I love their music, but the energy of the show just felt weird, and Richard Butler’s antics were a bit of a turn-off (onanism during “Pretty in Pink?” Why?). They’re legends and I’m not sorry I saw them...but I don’t think I need to see them again.
Janelle Monae in that venue is going to be something special if we get a good night, weather-wise.

Assuming I get on the flight, I'll be in NYC 27+28. I've done all the tourtisty stuff but I've never been without parents so if anyone has reccs for fun stuff, pls lmk. Me and my gf are underage so no bars (unless they're lenient lol).
We're planning to do a Broadway show, Chinatown and Central Park but want something for the night time that won't break the bank so recommended shows/venues would help a lot. Thanks!

My family has been going to Hop Lee Rice Shop for my entire life, the services is good, food is good, and prices are reasonable. On Mott St in the heart of Chinatown
