seriously I've never heard anyone say her name in real life besides the news..Then again there's probably an older demographic that says the same thing about Yang

Yeah I've got some middle aged coworkers that like Amy the most. They like Biden but think he's too old and hate his "gaffs", think Pete's too young/inexperienced, and think the progressives are too far left. Her shakiness on stage really kills it for me though. I don't know if it's stage fright or something neurological, but Trump would absolutely take advantage of it if she was the nominee
Kind of scary how easy he was to nail down back in the Spring but I had no clue there would be this much going on. Typical that some Libs are making Arrested Development jokes and not considering what this would do this his campaign in places like Michigan.
BTW, from a strategic point of view this likely helps Warren more than it does Bernie. If her campaign can stop getting pulled into the mud with Pete and find their footing.
From what I've read regarding the executive order:
The reasoning coming out of the WH is that "Boycott Israel" movements (or whatever you want to call them) are themselves anti-Semitic, and that by defining Judaism as a nationality, colleges and universities that rely on government funding will be forced to quash anti-Israel movements. They're spinning the executive order as a way of combating anti-Semitism but essentially Trump is making criticism of Israel equivalent to hate speech. Which is ironic considering that Trump probably doesn't give a shit about combating anti-Semitism at all.
While Trump's play here is a fairly obvious move to silence dissidents and erode free speech - which is totally worth being up in arms about - it's a far cry from being "a good way to start deporting Jews". I obviously have no faith in Trump's words or actions and enough has happened politically over the past four years that I can't even discredit the idea that this could be Trump playing the long game in an overarching anti-Jew scheme - anything seems possible anymore - but frankly there's enough awful about the erosion of free speech that is the immediate and obvious threat here that we really don't need to immediately go jumping to Holocaust parallels.
And I don't say that to invalidate the tweeter's experience of perceiving anti-Semitism, as I'm sure a Jewish person would be much more adept at being able to see it than I, but I can't help but see how such a dramatic response would have a reader thinking "Damn, looks like Trump's trying to start another Holocaust". Which doesn't seem to be the right takeaway here to me. And again, I'm not saying Trump's fascism doesn't mirror previous atrocious people in power. I'm just asking for people to remember that the most dramatic and emotionally gripping reactions are going to be the ones to catch your attention the most. Doesn't mean they're actually worthy of your attention. Sorry if I sound preachy. /rant

I don't ever want to hear people ask "how will you pay for that?" When it comes to healthcare or loan forgiveness or climate change stuff or anything that will actually help people.
Between this and the Harvey Weinstein case settlement it's never been more fucking clear how much power the rich have and how far they will go. Hard to feel optimistic about many things

Today I listened to wealthy people related to Lady Gaga go off on the "how will you pay for that?" rift about politics; while they soft bragged about their next trip to Hawaii and their multiple nannies/babysitters........
The class divide is stark, even among the benignly well off.
There's nothing worse than having to hear comments about Sanders just "offering us free stuff, how will it get paid for?!" -- then start talking about "empowering" kids with kindness... while we burned our budget the last two decades with senseless wars that never end that cost us billions of money that could have gone directly back to the people. Kindness isn't stopping Congress from funding death and a lack of progress -- but Sanders bad, Warren good, Biden's ok and if you say other wise you are BAD Democrat.

I believe a lot of the PMC just want to partake in a little performative wokeness on occasion. Something to make them feel good about themselves and, obviously, above the neanderthal GOP voters. While benign, there is enough class interests there to make a difference. Although most of them are just an unfortunate twist of fate away from being just like the majority of us.
What I'm saying is incrementalism appeals to them in a way they won't often put words to. Any kind of radical change in the material conditions of others is a direct threat to their status. And strait up, some of them are uncomfortable with the idea of the lower classes having upward mobility. Even more honestly, some of them are uncomfortable with the idea of POC raising up as equals.

You should be worried that over the last 2 years I've grown a shield to not speak about my viewpoints in these settings, period. It's a safety mechanism to protect myself from me saying something truthful, and being berated by the majority position. I work in a field that has mostly people running the line from economically privileged to client-level wealthy -- it's wearing me down that I feel like as a POC my viewpoint means absolutely nothing and would HURT me expressing them. Which often makes me seem like a malcontent - but I just don't want people knowing enough about me to start asking questions.
I AM getting awfully tired of being asked about my Jamaican heritage unsolicited for the 5th work day in a row......

Calling for the resignation and disbarment of United States Attorney General William P. Barr, and for other purposes.
Whereas, on March 24, 2019, United States Attorney General William P. Barr deliberately mischaracterized the “Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election” issued by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III;
Whereas, on March 25, 2019, at Attorney General Barr’s direction, the Department of Justice ceased defending the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Public Law 111–148), a duly enacted law under the United States Constitution;
Whereas, on April 24, 2019, Attorney General Barr directed then-Acting Assistant Attorney General John Gore of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to defy a subpoena from the House Oversight and Reform Committee pertaining to its investigation of the 2020 census;
Whereas, on July 8, 2019, Attorney General Barr deliberately mischaracterized the legal reasoning behind the Trump administration’s desire to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census and abruptly removed career Department of Justice attorneys in an unprecedented attempt to undermine a ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States;
Whereas, on July 16, 2019, Attorney General Barr ignored the recommendation of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division by declining to bring charges against the New York Police Department officer in the death of Eric Garner;
Whereas, on July 17, 2019, the United States House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Barr in criminal contempt of Congress for his refusal to comply with a duly-issued subpoena and deliberate obstruction of congressional oversight authority
Whereas, on December 4, 2019, Attorney General Barr threatened the withholding of police protection from communities that do not show “support and respect” to law enforcement, a statement that has been interpreted as being directed at communities of color that protest police violence;
Whereas Attorney General Barr has perpetuated and promulgated conspiracy theories that have been repeatedly debunked by United States law enforcement and intelligence agencies, including before a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, where he referred to legitimate and legal law enforcement surveillance as “spying”, and while traveling abroad to meet with foreign intelligence officials where he has continued to spread this disinformation;
Whereas Attorney General Barr has used taxpayer funds for international travel to seek foreign assistance in investigating a domestic political rival of the President of the United States
Whereas Attorney General Barr has sought to undermine the Department of Justice inspector general’s report “Review of Four FISA Applications and Other Aspects of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation”, regarding the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation of the Trump campaign; and
Whereas Attorney General Barr has refused to recuse himself from any Ukraine-related matters in which he is allegedly involved: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) condemns United States Attorney General William P. Barr for his despicable comments and actions;
(2) calls on United States Attorney General William P. Barr to resign
(3) calls on the Virginia State Bar to remove United States Attorney General William P. Barr from its rolls;
(4) calls on the New York State Bar Association to remove United States Attorney General William P. Barr from its rolls;
(5) calls on the District of Columbia Bar to remove United States Attorney General William P. Barr from its rolls;
(6) reaffirms support for the diversity of the United States; and
(7) reaffirms, in the strongest terms, its support for and commitment to the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution

It's very weird to see all these pundits come around to the fact that Bernie can win. I mean, they are smart enough to have already known he should have been treated as a top contender. Well most of them. Nate Silver is actually a dumbass when he steps away from the numbers.

We've talked about this before but it always makes me laugh when you hear right wingers talking about Hollywood as if it's some commie haven. SO MANY people in the film industry are the most milquetoast liberals you could ever imagine. And the work culture is completely elitist and full of the privileged.

Listen to the Scriptnotes episodes on Pay Up Hollywood. The work culture is privileged because the privileged are the only ones who can work in Hollywood.

As a PA in the film industry, it's fucked. I work 12hr shifts, get all the grunt work and can't get out of the PA position until "I've paid my dues." It is a commonality around here. And the gap between my position and the position above me is more than double. $10.71/hr opposed to $31.33/hr and I know this first hand because I do timecards.
UK election going on right now, got a bad feeling about this...
What's the bad feeling other than Johnson probably staying on, and the Torries probably win though it may not be a super big majority or enough to govern. Sucks today and sucks tomorrow.
I still wonder how the unrest with the EU was sewn. Seems like the Ruskies probably planted a bunch of propaganda like they did in the US to rile people up and tug at them emotionally as apparently that's how social media sort of works these days. Constant bombardment of "can you believe x did this?" peddled by influencers, assholes, propagandists, bots and others. There's no substitute for journalism. But knee-jerking, which seems to play a rather outsized roll on here as well, seems to be the current way to respond.

We're in the post-fact era, where facts and the truth don't matter for some people.
On another note, Trump bashing Greta for being Time's Person of the Year is just wonderful.
