If that’s what slam dunks are, going forward. Then this fest will continue to have subpar boring undercard just so they can have Anthony Mason hype up one set…
All while Jay and crew rake in 1 milly in profits under the ‘guise that they can’t pay their artists proper.
Thinking that Bruce, Wilco , Billy Bragg and guests doing Mermaid Ave is not a slam dunk is fucking wild. Some of ya’lls bar is way too high.
Personal vendettas against Jays salary aside, this is a killer booking if that what it ends up being
I just think it’s important that the profits are mentioned. I’m also willing to bet that the majority of these booking are not even aware of said salary of the fest brass. If they did know, I’d be curious of what they thought.

It’s a point for sure. I personally don’t have an issue with Jay making money on something he spends all year on while acts take the option to take a financial hit for one day to be included in Something that means something to them.
I get why it would rub you and other people the wrong way, but I personally am fine with Jay making good money on something that he clearly is fully invested in
Woody Guthrie tribute set with Dropkick Murphys/. 25th anniversary of Mermaid Avenue with Billy Bragg, Natalie Merchant and you know who. Rhiannon Giddens also has a Guthrie cover (as does Shovels and Rope). Joan Baez pops in cause why not. And Bruce shows up and announces new album the Guthrie Sessions” to make it historic. Jay rides off into the Newport sunset with one more slam dunk in the books.

How is that not a slamdunk? What the hell do you want for a closer? And as for "boring undercard," I like the undercard. Black Pumas/Big Thief members/ Black Pumas/ Guster/ Wednesday/ Orville Peck/ Gillian Welch/ Craigie and Slim/ Sierra Ferrell/ Killer Mike/ Molly Tuttle ... and these are just the acts I knew and/or liked before acts started getting announced. I like a lot of acts I don't know. What would make people happy? I don't get all the bitching.

Maybe try reading again……
At no point did I say it was not a slam dunk. What I did say is…if booking a subpar undercard is what it takes to get that type of booking then it’s not worth it, IMO.
So far I’m liking what I’m hearing. Looks like she is playing the Calgary Folk Fest the same weekend too. Apparently their full lineup comes out tomorrow

Didn't Joan Baez have negative comments about the state of the festival the last time she played? We've had 15 years of good festivals since then and now she's gonna return for this shit show...

She def did have negative comments about the festival. She didn’t say it 15 years ago though.
