So I think we had a thread like this in the past, but with all the new folks, it really doesn't do much good to bump a year old thread with outdated info and such.
I've been having one of those "what am I doing with my life" things over the past few months, trying to figure out if I want to continue on with what I'm doing now (I work in insurance), because it's what I know and am approaching a point where I might be able to make really good money doing it, or scrap it all and find something else that I'm more passionate about.
I'm a student, sorta. I'm a senior in high school, and I've taken a lot of classes, so I go to school from 8-9:30 each morning and I'm done for the day. Not really much of a profession. If I were to honestly list what I do, I'd just say "bum."

Ooooh! Good thread. I currently work the front desk at Super 8 Motel, i've gotten one promotion to Senior Desk Agent (i even have business cards) but this will not be my permanent job, and most likely not even my permanent field of expertise. I'm thinking about going to school to be an RN because that's only 2 years to makin some sick money and i'm sure i'm not going to be able to stick with most any job my whole life. I love too many things. I'm thinking about being an elementary school teacher long term though, i like kids but don't know if i want to have any of my own, and i'd have summers off, which the kid in me loooooves. Anyway just random rambling, carry on

I was a dog groomer until last week. After repeatedly not getting paid(and getting unbelievable sh*t for complaining about it) by this huge company that shall remain nameless, I decided to stop "volunteering" my time, effort and infinite f*cking patience. So, currently i'm unemployed.
I work as a temp, about to get hired at my area's Hospital system in the Cancer Center. I schedule and admit outpatients mostly who have been newly diagnosed with cancer to meet with a the team of doctors and nurses that will be with them through th entire surgery and treatment process
I work at QVC. Which is great because I'm trying to go back to college to finish my degree, in Film and Media Arts, and QVC has a great tuition reimbursement program. So hopefully I can graduate from college and move up in the company enough that I'm working in the TV studios. Get some experience there, and then get the hell out of PA, and get a job on the West Coast somewhere. That's a little ways down the road though, but that's my plan.

well now i work in the caffeteria at our town's hospital. they pay me good and its fun. blasting music, grillin and cooking. not what i want to do forever, but a good way to raise funds for a while
New home builder, Warranty/ Customer care. Hey Schnappz My wife is also a groomer in atl. she does the mobile thing . Are you going to ymsb on the 16th.
i'm an admin for an international staffing agency. technically i'm sales support, but i love it. we have a ton of fun, its totally laid back and young, and very energetic. we drink on fridays, and make any excuse we can come up with to throw a party and throw down during office hours.
also, i found out that one of my newer co-workers went to bonnaroo, too! i had my t-shirt on one day during a party, and he came up to me and said, "radiohead changed my life!". it was great.
I really like those Nappy. The third one down is really nice.
I work in Commercial Real Estate. Cube Farm and everything, but I do get out once or twice a week to check out properties, so it is nice to get out of the office and listen to tunes in the car. Best part about the job probably. Used to have cube fests as well, but then the man cracked down with his "ethics and compliance". I work with a bunch of workaholics, but they are good people so it works out.

those paintings were amazing. I have a grand total of zero creative bones in my body.
It was a little wild seeing quite a few health care and hospital related postings. I work as a project manager for a commercial construction company. I just moved about 900 miles back to IL and Chicago where I am building new stuff and renovating existing areas of the second largest hospital in The City. For me this is my long-term career. There is absolutely nothing I could see myself doing outside of construction. And it is cool now to think that I am providing something useful to society - a facility in which people can be healed and made better.
p.s. good-bye Fountain Wader status via this post. I love the new system. can't wait to be BO and Fudge Toes someday.
wow those are amazing napydred, what medium(s?) do you use?
I use an assortment of materials, primarily acrylic paint, sand, tar, polyacrylic and urethane, microcrystalline encaustic wax, mineral spirits, and more recently metal surfacer with an oxidizing agent, among other things.... i guess it's just easier to say Mixed Media.
thanks for the compliments all, i work hard. Can't wait for the lineup!

I'm a buyer for a major bottle manufacturing company. We make about 50% of the beer bottles in the US, along with liquor bottle, pill bottles, and other household items.
Yeah, I work for the man, but at least our products go to good use!

just curious - what agency has you employed as a temp?

love my job!! it rocks!!
I've been in your office before...I'm a CPA in Memphis and was going to look into you guys looking for a placement opp. for me about 5 years ago.
Sounds like your job is more than mine though...
By the way, do you know Gus la Rocha (I think he works for the Accountemps branch). He placed a temp. i have working for me right now...
wow small world! yes, of course i know gus! he's head of accountemps sps (which is salaried professional service). i think he does more "contract" type stuff then temporary. he has the most hilarious laugh i've ever heard. it's totally infectious.
i'm actually the admin for the accountemps "temporary" division. that's still just so crazy!
well good luck in your soon-to-be new permanent job. if you ever find that you don't like it, you know where to come! by the way, we have a division that staffs strictly perm positions. it's robert half finance, but you probably already know that.

just trying to do a little representin' here!
Sorry, I probably mistyped my message...a few years ago, I came in and talked with someone there about a permanent position but decided not to leave where I was at the time (Ernst & Young). Currently, I am in another full-time job (Pfizer - talk about working for the man...please don't smite and have a contracted person (Dianne Sims) working for me here at Pfizer.
ah, pfizer. one of our "major" accounts. yes, it appears we both might be working for "the man". ah well, at least he gives me good vacation time . . .

I run the Tech support department at a e commerce .com. Its a global company thats huge but still a small company. I couldn't work for a better company, awesome cheap cheap benefits, a very "dot com" environment, I can work whenever I want as long as I get my job done and where anything I want to work.

I'm a lab rat (my wife too!). Work at a medical center connected to Wake Forest Univ. Over the years I've done blood bank and bone marrow transplant, now I'm mostly on the computer. Not very glamourous but it pays the bills and Bonnaroo tickets...
napy - your paintings are outstanding! the second one makes me think of a picture I took of the Mayan pyramid at Chichen Itza
i go to college and work for an attorney. i'm supposed to be his assistant but i pretty much do everything he does...so i could literally open up my own practice. i also work at the law library on campus, but that's just work study.
