From my own experience…. If you are at a point where doom and gloom is all you see, step back from this thread and politics in general. The world is in a real shitty place but try not to let it consume you and keep you in a depressive funk. Cutting the shit out of your life is very helpful at times.
You know those pics of Gaza City where Israel has flattened entire blocks with non-guided 2000 pound bombs. Care to guess where they are made and who sends them to Israel?
Oh I'm fully aware.
These people have no regard for human life. What makes you think anything can change?
I figured you did so I guess I still don’t get your point. Emoney was pretty clear what he was referring to. I elaborated on it because some liberals don’t seem to realize this at all. Judging by some in this thread that I’ve seen make sarcastic remarks about protesters’ clear and simple to understand demands.
We might not be able to stop Israel through diplomacy but the US doesn’t have to continue to be complicit by selling arms or giving military aid in various forms. Which in fact would limit them greatly.
Would it actually happen? Almost certainly not to the degree we would like to see. Barring some horrific scaling up of the slaughter that we’d have to respond to. I’m on the same page as you there. That doesn’t mean we can’t point it out and try to clarify the problem. Because the solutions are there. It’s not an impossible thing to accomplish. So it’s incorrect to say there is no hope. As narrow a slither as it might be.
How do any of us convince some genocidal maniacs 6000 miles away to have a freaking conscience.
I don’t think any US president could get away with fully threatening military support of Israel, but I wish at the least they’d set some sort of restriction on what we give them so it’s exclusively for defense (ie Iron Dome materials only) and can’t be used for slaughtering Palestinians.
And I would very much like to see Biden start sanctioning Israeli leaders. They’ve been hinting it’ll happen if Israel invades Rafah. I’d prefer he not wait.
Reagan did it. He delayed delivery of jets. Called and condemned actions to the PM. In fact Reagan and Bush Sr let like 5 times more UN resolutions pass that condemned Israeli military actions than Obama and Biden have.
That’s not to say they were better on the issue per se or times are the same. Just saying it certainly can be done.
If everyone on here spent their energy trying to convince the good team to stop arming a genocide instead of scolding a dumbass RFK voter in louisiana of all places, that would probably have a lot more theoretical impact on the upcoming election
Israel gonna Israel.

Watching American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders on Netflix. First off, fuck your commercials Netflix. You're cancelled!
Anyway, so about episode 3 they start tying everything together (allegedly) and pulling all these international CIA strings and the music was all dramatic and "DUNNN DUNNN DUNNN". I'm just sitting there with my left wing podcasts melted brain going "well, yeah."
Having said that I'm not sure I buy the unifying theory they are presenting. Although all these big events did happen and the CIA had a hand in a lot of it. Not sure about the random murders tho. They were in bed with so many criminals during this time period murders certainly happened without them knowing or caring.
The part were the CIA asset is fucking with that reporter's mind about the fake Zapruder film is great. Shows how much misdirection and mindgames they play just for fun.
This is so much more offensive than Don't Look Up lmao.
This is shockingly simple minded and ahistoric. It's exactly what I figured. Can't wait to watch it. The Purge films 100% understand politics better than this. Undefeated exploitation treasures.
you sure about sticking with alcohol? how about instead you have an angeldust birthday. i hear pcp is fine it just gets a bad rap because of the whole nudity/super strength/violence thing.
Is a vote for Biden a vote for genocide? I don't think so, but there are quite a lot of people who do.
Buddy, RFK is pro genocide too.
That’s the shit of this. You’re trying to make a stand about your perceptions of Biden’s senility and views on Israel, RFK has the same views on the Middle East and also thinks whacky shit like vaccines cause autism and 5G is mind control and doesn’t even have being senile to blame it on.
Also Trump spent his time in office fulsomely licking Bibi’s ass so it’s not like there’s a great choice here.
This is another reason I don’t see him as much of a threat. For every issue that a leftist might agree with there’s some batshit thing like this. Same for right leaning folks.
Only the very fringe of both parties will fall in line behind this guy. He’s so all over the place. And these folks typically arn’t reliable voters for the parties anyway.
As much as I bitch about them I show up to vote pretty much always. Lol
Is a vote for Biden a vote for genocide? I don't think so, but there are quite a lot of people who do.
Not exactly. I personally feel like me voting for his reelection is a partial endorsement of his first term. Which includes an extremely poor handling of a genocidal client state. In a situation where his administration has leverage and has refused to use it in any sort of timely manner.
I say partial endorsement because there are legit fears that Trump will be much worse on basically every issue. So there’s room for an argument that your vote isvery much for the greater good regardless.
. Sure but Trump had some central ideas that stuck in people’s minds and got them invested. Most of it was pretty basic GOP bs that he ramped up. That and the carnival barking brought in the new crazies. Most regular GOP folks went along with it cause of self interest. Stupid or not it’s pretty logical where his votes came from.
Campaigns need some kind of key themes/slogans to stick in the public’s imaginations. Look at Ross Perot for a successful example. I don’t really see evidence RFK has really done that. He just seems like a joke whose platform is all over the place. He’ll be extremely lucky to do Jill Stein numbers at this point. It’s early so we will see how the Summer goes but I think he’s a fart in the wind.
I mean, he's averaging 12% in national polls right now. His themes are "I'm a Kennedy" and "I'm not one of those two guys," and they're compelling enough - that's far below where Perot was but well ahead of Stein. Perot's numbers dropped as the election approached, and I expect RFK Jr's will too, but there are a lot of idiots out there who'll simply see "Kennedy" and vote, enough to turn the election (at the moment, turn it in Trump's favor).
are you saying this out of fear it will happen or out of actual data? Cause most polling is pretty clear that whatever percentage RFK JR polls the losses are pretty even split and when one side is behind it’s well within the margin of error. To add to that Independent voters are naturally harder to read and it’s rarely correct to say a 3rd party person cost a candidate the election. As a lot of the folks have no loyalty to either side and don’t owe the parties anything.
In other words, you don’t actually know that an RFK voter would show up for Biden if RFK wasn’t running. You might dislike the idea that they won’t vote the lesser of two evils but that in no way makes them obligated to do it. So calling people dumb and blaming them for a Biden loss is a poor analysis of why Biden might actually lose.
For what it’s worth, looking at RFK JR funding numbers points towards more right wing types. Besides some obvious funny business with the big donors there are a lot of folks who didn’t contribute to either party in the last couple elections. And again, that’s the problem with figuring out who these folks are. They often have contradictory politics and don’t really show up election after election for anyone outside of some kook.

My Wilco list is very close to LLL’s. So she likely just stoled what I sent her and posted it. Which means I don’t have to type it out on my phone. Take out the last two and put Via Chicago and Misunderstood
Not enough to win the election, but probably more than you think
Fair point. 70+ million voted for Trump in 2020. Land of the rubes. Home of the fucking idiots.

there’s a fallout series and a fallout movie? why now? did the rights become available or something
I don't think there's actually a movie? This has been in the rumor mill for years and Todd Howard claims they've turned down a lot of offers waiting for the right pitch. We will see. I had no hope for the show but the cast and trailer looks like it's at least not going to be total garbage.
My wife was diagnosed with rectal cancer three weeks ago. Initially it was colon cancer, which would have likely been surgery and done. Instead, with rectal cancer, it's radiation with a chemo pill, then chemo infusions, then possibly surgery. She has a good prognosis but I'm really angry at the world right now.
Fuck man. Sorry she's having to go through this. Sorry for both of you. Worrying about a loved one in this situation is a mindfuck. We're all here for you in what ways a bunch of online misfits can be. This can be a good place to blow off steam and vent to folks when the world weighing you down. Plus there are people here with similar experiences that could lend an ear as well. Love ya.
Truly, we live in the absolute dumbest fucking timeline.
Honestly, going by the American public a Kennedy and a football star on the same ticket does make some sense. Like if you are reaching and have nothing of substance to offer you can be happy you have this going for you.
"Voted" in the primary today. Two other people besides me were there at 5:30. Pretty strange but this whole primary was a wash anyway.
Would be hilarious if RKF Jr runs as the Libertarian Party candidate. Outside of his batshit crazy views on vaccines his platform has nothing in common with the Libertarian Party.
How does he have nothing in common with them?
His environmental policies for one. Just his background in that is pretty far from them.
He has some platform ideas in common but most candidates would. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible for him to switch positions to take the spot I guess. He seems like the type that would.

That’s not to say people working on independent elections haven’t made basic mistakes. They have and we’ve discussed them in here to some degree.
It’s just really hard talking to folks without spending most of your time defending shit that’s not even true or accurate to the history of the nation or certain political ideals that are often slung around.
Sort of but not really. You could have great candidates but if the voting populace is still made up of mostly old people and the highly partisan you’re still gonna get a lot of incumbents and party favorites winning every election. You still need campaign finance reform because it’s the right thing to do, but you’re not gonna get meaningful change to the system (or campaign finance reform) without significantly increased engagement.
To your other point, the people most dissatisfied with Biden are the ones least likely to vote in a primary. If there was a lane to run against Biden and even a reasonable certainty the electorate would have shown up, someone would have done it. Newsom or Pritzker could have easily dug up the money but both (correctly) judged the votes weren’t gonna be there
I don’t disagree but it’s also important to remember that running against power is insanely difficult. From local elections to Federal anyone running outside the system potentially faces a media that tends to have levers of control that favor big business. Even a candidate with a reasonable platform could face basic smear tactics that end up eating up the energy of a campaign.
Voter ignorance and apathy are real problems but it’s paired with a lifetimes of endless propaganda and a lackluster education system. Is there another Western nation besides maybe England that constantly have birdbrained debates about socialism where nobody seems able to define what they even mean by it? That’s just the most obvious example I can think of.
