ok, here's an example of grocery shopping for me. friday night i went out to buy ingredients for 2 (count them...2) meals. one was a doggie lasagna which consisted of about 3 ingredients that i didn't already have. (yes i made lasagna for my dogs. it was bear's 2nd birthday.) i also bought some (not all) of the ingredients for lahori chicken curry (serves 4), 2 12-packs of soda, and 3 boxes of kleenex. the grand total was $95! i can't afford to eat at home!
OMG - I would have gagged - I actually spent $140 this week because Lean Cusines were on sale for $1.27 each and Boz's mom just bought us a deep freeze - so it is not stocked with all kinds of meatless Lean Cusines. I really want to cut back on the amount of meat I eat - I know Boz won't - cuz he is a serious carnivore - but my daughter is rubbing off on me a little
Might also be the general cost of groceries - here in DC, when Lean Cuisines go on sale, it's for $2.50 or even just $3.00 each.
I know if I stick to mostly pasta and rice and a bag or two of frozen vegetables, I can keep my grocery bill down. But when I add in lots of fresh produce and frozen dinners and specific jars of spices for a dish, that's when my bill goes up. I can easily spend $75 a week just on myself.
Yeah. I tend to drop a good bit of quid on myself when getting groceries (which I usually regret later). I'm a big foodie, and I tend to get stuff that's not so ordinary. I'm a big fan of D'artagnan products. Good times though.
I love to eat gourmet food when going out, but there's nothing like a homecooked meal... Especially when you're sharing with friends.
I have to keep myself away from the gourmet cheese section at the store - it's all so pretty! And I love brie quesadillas with mango salsa. Mmmmmmm
But lately, my fav singleton meal is just cooking up some whole wheat pasta - when I add in the pasta, I also add in a few handfuls of frozen green beans so it's all done at the same time and I don't have to wash multiple pots.

I guess you don't shop at Walmart like I do For 3 of us, we usually spend around $125 a week and we eat pretty well - that also includes non-grocery stuff. None of us drink soda - empty calories and a waste of money imo.
My fiance cooks dinner for us at least every other night. I buy frozen meals for lunches and my daughter takes Ramen to school for lunch (her choice!). I think we are pretty frugal and we do look for sales and buy off brands of some things so that helps.
^^^^ I SO didn't need to hear that! It sound delish! But doesn't go along with either my low-fat dieting OR my trying to not spend so much at Safeway plans
But karma for something to keep in mind for when I do cheat!
It also sounds like something that could be turned into an easy appetizer dealio - cut the bread with cookie cutters first or something?

and it does not g along with my low-fat, low calorie diet or the frugal me - but it is a nice treat every now and then

I LOVE multigrain bread. That's what I grew up with - there was never Wonder in the house. Always something with lots of seeds and texture. Mmmmmm
