Just bought a test print of my white whale poster direct from the artist (Burwell) for like 25% of what the regular thing goes for when it rarely comes up for re-sale. I don't really have the money for it but fuck I've wanted that thing for 8 years, and this is just about the best case scenario

Cody got us tickets to see The Kills at Pappy & Harriet's in March. It's a great venue in the middle of nowhere AND I booked us a room at the motel on site. So pumped.
I have an on-campus university at Appalachian State Monday! Pretty much wrote off 2016 as far as settling into a job and moving into a new area.
I saw you posted in this thread, so I came over to see if you got a job, but now I am confused. Do you have an interview? Should that read on-campus interview? I hope so. Fingers crossed for you!

I must have been a little excited, meant to type interview instead of university.
I had an interview two weeks ago with the school I graduated from, they selected somebody else.
Locally owned physical music stores seem to be a dying breed in this digital age. When I first moved to Madison WI in 1999, there were three of them on State Street - a mile-long pedestrian-only stretch from capitol square to the heart of campus. There's only one still standing today: B-Side. It was the best of those three, too.
At the end of November, its owner and (at this point) last employee standing by necessity Steve - who has been there as long as I can remember, and describes himself as "president, secretary, purchasing agent, accounts receivable, clerk, web guy, stock boy, janitor at B-Side" - had a bicycle accident. Broke an arm and a hip in two places. He will be unable to work for 2-3 months going into the holiday shopping season, and literally unable to afford both his medical bills and paying staff to keep the store open. It could very well have killed that record store.
A GoFundMe page went up yesterday with a goal of raising $6,000 to pay former employees and friends to keep the store going while Steve recovers. That goal was reached in five hours. It's about 36 hours in, and it's pushing $21,000 from 500+ donors.
The scrappy underdog story. The outpouring of support. Being in my mid-30s and able to kick in to help a place where I spent/blew so many paychecks in my twenties. Seeing employees from the regional chain store that shut down confess they were jealous of this store. I fucking love it.
No Yay! posts since the 6th?! I know there has to be somebody here with some good news!
My teenage little is going to court tomorrow to get his official name change!! The court was incredibly unhelpful in filing the petition, so here's to hoping I did it right!
unconventional yay: I got my ADHD diagnosis yesterday (after hours and hours of tests) and lolz I'm in the 98th-99th percentile. I'm so happy to have my results though because now I can finally fix some things that I haven't been able to overcome. I also now have reassurance about a lot of things that I've done/felt over the years. such a relief to understand why some things are so difficult for me and yet so frustrating when others can't keep up.
other yay: had a semester meeting with one of my professors yesterday and he had a lottt of wonderful things to say.
combo yay: hopefully with my diagnosis I can do as well in an office setting as I have been doing in school. I've been scared my whole time in grad school that I won't live up to the work I put in during school once I graduate because office setting are so hard for me. I feel better knowing my professors can feel safe recommending me and I won't disappoint them.
Our president just announced an extra day and a half off next week. Although disappointing that those days conflict with my office and my department holiday parties, that means I will be off Wednesday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. through Tuesday, January 3 at 8:30 a.m. This is all holiday and presidential discretionary days. No vacation time!
Of course the bah humbuh in me hates days off, and that amount of time off without specific plans and such for every day is already giving me anxiety. Must. Not. Waste. Life.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I am old enough that I didn't even know they had percentiles for ADHD. I wonder where I'm at. Re: adapting to an office setting, it can totally be done. I am lucky to be in a job that isn't 100% office every day, but I know those days can be super tough. Meds are really helpful for a lot of people (don't know if you are going down that route). Otherwise, there is a mass of things written about coping mechanisms to help you through your day. I've talked on here before about how headphones are a necessity for me because I have a hard time keeping focused on what is in front of me because of the other activity going on around me. I also tend to work in fits and starts. Twenty minutes on this then on to something else then interneting then texting then projects then emails. The worst for me is meetings. We had a two and a half hour meeting without any sort of break, and it almost killed me. My boss knows how I am though, so I could have ducked out for a few if it got too much.
Ni hao from Beijing. Monie and I are having a fantastic time. We got in yesterday evening and just explored our neighbourhood and the night markets. Today I think we''re going to Tiananmen Square, Mao's mauseoleum, Forbidden City, and out to a nice dinner of Peking's best Peking duck. Then tomorrow..... THE WALL! B|
Loving it here, and loving being here with my love.

My wife is going into labor with our first child, we have been at the hospital since 12:30 last night. It is going to be a long day but I cannot wait to meet my daughter!

Today is the day. Closing on the house at 3:30. Nervous, excited, stressed, and generally freaked out and happy. All my friends are coming by at 5:30 to see it. I can't believe it's finally happening.

Settled enough in the new apartment to put some focus back on vacating the old one.
Found a bank envelope with $50 in the debris behind the couch! And based on the envelope, it's totally mine!
Two apartments overlapping for a month don't come cheap. I might have gifts for everyone on my list after all.
This put me over the top for replacing the ipod milady lost over a week ago. I was planning to pull some last-minute, not-as-cool, smaller gifts out of my ass until I found that envelope.
Our leading theory is that it fell out of her pocket, either outside her work or our old apartment. If so, that thing's been buried in a plowed snowbank for 10-12 days either way.
We agreed to a ceasefire/minimizing of gifts for each other, what with two-household expenses and others to give gifts. Playing Santa don't come cheap. But she has to work from 6am-10pm on Christmas Day because her shift switch fell through when a coworker got reassigned. So fuck that ceasefire. Ho ho ho.
I've talked on here before about how headphones are a necessity for me because I have a hard time keeping focused on what is in front of me because of the other activity going on around me.
I have a problem with blocking out other activity too, but I can't listen to music while I work because I find it just as distracting (I can't have words in my ears if I'm trying to read words on a computer screen). When I read this post, it gave me an idea, though, and I downloaded a white noise app that day. It is my new best friend.
