Paid off my car yesterday. Feels so good to take that off my budget and put the money elsewhere.
I have the opposite yay.
So I was sitting in my car the other day, getting ready to leave work, and I had not yet shut the driver's side door. At the same time, someone else was leaving, which triggered the gate to open. My parking spot is right next to the gate, and as it opened, it caught my door and bent it all the way backwards. It was one of the most surreal moments of my life watching the gate bend my car door like that. It felt like it went on forever. Anyway, that car was 14 years old and it's a total loss, so now I'm car shopping! I'm not looking forward to having my first ever car payment, but I am looking forward to having air conditioning and a suspension system that's not shot all to hell!
And now I can listen to Paul's Boutique in the car without it sounding like someone is crinkling aluminum foil in the speakers!

since my last payment was only a partial payment, I did the super responsible thing and bought myself tickets to see LCD Soundsystem on my birthday with the leftover cash.
This may seem silly to some, but we were approved for solar panels on our house. They are getting installed tomorrow. I am very excited.
You have to get approved? Neighborhood ASSociation?
Yes, approved . Basically I am not paying anything out of pocket, I got approved for the 20 year lease of the panels (then I own them) and NOLA approved the permits to have them installed. So once they are installed, and Entergy comes out and switches our meter we then start paying on the contract ($55/month) and my electric bill should be no more than $10. I personally have never had an Entergy electric bill be less than $65 so I am feeling pretty good about it (this month's bill is $155 and it is only July). They are going to do an energy efficiency test also, which they will then seal up any place that is leaking air to help lower the cost of the bill.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'm an engineering student and I will be doing research for one of my professors in the fall! I don't know what I'll be researching but my professor used to work at a particle accelerator so I know we will have a lot of common interests.

Is the particle accelerator going to explode, create meta-humans and make you the flash?

I've been meaning on posting this for a couple of months but for some odd reason never got around to it. My cat was having a lot of health problems and was diagnosed with diabetes. She had a bad reaction to the insulin we gave her and had to take her to the pet ER. After trying her again on a lower dose of insulin we had to take her to our vet because she had the same reaction. After that he told us to take her off the insulin. After a week of that we put her on a special diet for her bladder which saw immediate positive results. Now she seems as healthy as she been in a long time. It feels really good seeing her feel well and not having to give her insulin shots.
Greenville finally has a cool music venue! It's called Radio Room and it's not really new, but they just moved into a new venue. I never made it to the old location. Since they've moved they've booked Diarrhea Planet, Cherry Glazerr and Youth Code. We've never had a venue that booked those type of bands before.
Here's a big one for me. This morning I hit my goal of having three months emergency savings on hand. It's so liberating to know I could quit my job (if I wanted) or get fired or take a different position and be OK for a few months. And now I can shift my extra income to demolishing my student loans. Hopefully within like a year and a half I will be debt free (or sooner if I get promoted or get a better job).
I've always done really well on maintaining a retirement account but short-term savings has been a struggle. I helped get my sister through college, supported my parents through two life emergencies, and bought a car. I've never really had a debt-inducing emergency but the possibility was always there. This little safety net is a huge relief.
Sorry if that seems tacky but I'm really excited about it! And honestly it's easier to tell my online friends then blab about it IRL.
I have spent the last 2.5 years building a real-estate crowdinvesting platform called LoanPie. Tomorrow at 9 central my business partner and I will give the first public presentation at 1 Million Cups. Link goes to a live stream if anyone wants to check it out
