My dad's position was eliminated in April of last year, and he has spent since then job searching, and slipping into deeper depression as no one wanted to hire an executive-level engineer in his 60's. It was also causing lots of financial anxiety, as my adult sister with Downs syndrome still lives with my parents.
He got an offer yesterday for what is basically his dream job: leading the build team for the new Saleen S1 supercar.
I'm happy not just because of his mental health, but also because he found a job that he is enthusiastic and excited about since I highly suspect for most of his career, bread winning took precedence over job fulfillment/enjoyment.

That is awesome! I went from October to December without a job and it was stressful. His 10 month in between period must have been much more stressful than my 2 months that were nothing to shrug at!
So I fell while skating in a parade on Feb 8. I had my right leg extended out and was balancing on my left foot. Hit a bead and went down hard on my right leg that was extended out. I didn't think too much on it, the bone hurt and my knee hurt but my knee always hurts anyway from falling on it during a game years ago. But then I tried to run on it last Thursday and it felt like the muscle was trying to tear away from my shin and was crazy painful.
So I went ahead and made a doctor's appt that I just left from...it is only a bad bruise! I got some exercises I can do and have to RICE it, but other than that I am all good. I was told that "pain is my guide." If it still is bothering me in 4 weeks I can go back and get an MRI. He offered to refer me to Physical Therapy but my mom was a therapist and that is last resort. I will do my exercises and hopefully feel better. I was so scared what the doctor was going to tell me and I am just a wuss. YAY!!
I won not one but two contests this week to go to shows! Might not be able to make the AWOLNATION show in Charlotte on Sunday, but the contest also nets me a copy of their new album on vinyl so I’m down with that.
But the other show is Lotus next Saturday and I’m bringin’ one of my best friends and ol’ concert buddies along fer the dance party! So much excitement!!!
Last night I finally finished the afghan I've been working on since March. I posted it on facespace, so a few of you have seen it already. But you're going to see it again because I'm really pleased with it and I'm screaming "YAY!" around my apartment because I am finally done with the border. The border is what I thought was going to kill me, it was SO boring compared to the main pattern.
My favorite visual artist and occasional Tame Impala collaborator, Nate Duval listened to my music and said he would be interested in doing my album art...

I trained as a jazz bassist for years and was in multiple bands, and have done lots of recording but I was always hands off. Now I mostly play by myself and I am just now fumbling my way through learning more production beyond just mic'ing my amp and running through a USB to Reaper.

Logic. I also have a Teenage Engineering OP-1 (which is where I do about half of my writing) and a Roland VP-03. I also use an Eleven Rack which I use to track guitar and usually double it with micing my amp (also run through my eleven rack to match the sound). Recording actual synths through a DAW is annoying but worth it imo
I got a super cool gift package from one of my favorite bands since the early 2000s (Tub Ring) includin’ a t-shirt I had ordered over a decade ago, one of the last of three releases I need to complete my collection/discography, and two bonus compilation CDs they were a part of (one with a live recordin’ I have yet to hear). I fangirled hard today, and thanked them super kindly.
I’ve also gotten back into the job hunt/application thing again! I really wanna get out of where I am, but I’m not quite sure what I wanna do.

Yay! Kicking off festival season and heading out to the Denton Folk Fest to enjoy banjos and fiddles while lying on a picnic blanket. I do wish it was still a house show. The last event at this new venue looked very under attended from the social media photos.

My girlfriend let me do her taxes this year. Last night she told me application was rejected because one of her Employer ID numbers was incorrect. I'm glad people like you are good at your job, because transferring numbers from a piece of paper onto a computer screen is just out of my reach.

not only am i pretty good at transferring numbers from a piece of paper onto a computer screen, sometimes the numbers are already on the computer screen and i transfer them from one computer screen to another computer screen. i know i know, kind of makes your head spin, but that's what i went to school at night for five years for.

I'll one up you, mine got rejected TWICE for that reason. I am really, really bad at that apparently (I was copying the wrong number entirely. State ID or something instead of EID).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Randomly getting a raise at work towards the end of a rough week is nice.
As someone that hasn't ever received a raise at this job (5 years) and was told I was at the top of pay grade when I asked for one on year 2, FYP. Getting one on a rough week is ESPECIALLY nice. Congratulations and I am very jealous.

No doubt, and I didn't even go through the whole awkward ask for it situation. It's funny because I almost applied for two openings right before leaving for wedding/honeymoon. For awhile, I've had in my head that I would pursue and be in another work situation by the end of the summer (for a list of reasons). Who knows what could come up, but I'm planning to just standpat for the summer and reevaluate the situation in the fall.
Start of the year was really tough on my work end, seemed like I was only getting negative feedback related to performance. Now I get a random raise.
Hope all is well with your situation (been following along more on snap than anything).

My situation is the same. Hoping for an interview at a place with fellow rollerboos. Fingers crossed.

Is that as bad as finding out that they're starting out new hires at what I'm making now (been there 5 years)?
