When I first graduated, my PhD advisor offered me a post-doc working on a couple new projects. I really wanted to take it, but declined because I needed more money (my wife wanted to quit her hospital job to finish her PhD, and a post-doc salary wouldn't come close to replacing hers). So I went and got a hospital data analytics/research job. It was doing some interesting stuff, but ultimately outside my area of expertise and not really what I would want to research long-term. It was also frustrating, as doing the actual work was really hampered by the corporate bureaucracy of the hospital. Basically corporate IT policies that covered all the computers throughout the whole hospital system (think public computers in nurses stations, administartion, etc) also covered the stuff we were doing, which meant we needed corporate approval to move data around on servers, install new software, visit certain websites. Not ideal for doing computation-intensive research. Well, my advisor approached me in January because he needed some help with these projects and managing/mentoring some new, young grad students. And it took a while, but he was able to convince ASU to hire me as a research scientist based on my time spent as a "post-doc equivalent" at the hospital, meaning he could pay me what I wanted. So I got basically my dream job, working on some really cool shiz and building on my dissertation work. And I'm back in academia where schedules are more flexible, vacation is more plentiful, and I cut my commute in half and can carpool to campus with my wife. Definitely a YAY!

YAY! That's amazing! Glad you're getting back to your passion, on top of all the other awesome perks!
Taco bell gave me a free 4th taco with my combo meal. #Winning@Life. or maybe it magically appeared in my bag after i offered a taco to that homeless fellow. #goodkarma
My dad and I have really bonded over our love for The Raconteurs and today he surprised me with tickets for my birthday. I also matched with an insanely hot girl on tinder. Good day so far
Edit: someone paid me $20 to show them how to do their homework. Took all of 5 minutes

Today I presented my research at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research. This semester, I wrote a code in Python that will model 350,000 fuel pebbles that make up the core of a pebble bed nuclear reactor in order to run simulations to determine its criticality.
I just won my eBay auction for the 7" triangle green RSD exclusive Modest Mouse vinyl!!
Hopefully you weren’t price-gouged by a flipper! I just need to snag the Chris Robinson Brotherhood pic disc to get the second of two items I needed this go round.

With shipping it cost me $43. They're going for about $40 on eBay which is about a $15 mark-up I think; maybe $10?
Tracked down a guide and map from my first Bonnaroo in 2007! Still have my original guide book, but I guess I lost the map over the years. So now I have complete and mostly pristine copies of books, maps, and schedules from all the years I attended!
I am leaving the current show that I am working as a construction PA on before it wraps and heading to a movie on Tuesday. I will be the art PA in the new gig, make a little bit more money and hopefully be one step closer to getting into graphic design in the film industry here. I am super sad to leave before Queen of the South season 4 wraps, but I am excited about my new opportunity.
The studio I will be work for is WAYYY closer to my house and I don't have to go in until 8am instead of 6am. It isn't Bill and Ted's but I have accepted that I might not meet Keanu this year already. LOL
Fingers crossed for your girl. Oh and I have a very plain, non-photo IMDB account now. I am almost famous.

Thanks! I am loving this new gig. First day and I got to do crafty shit and they are going to talk to me about designing the movie's concept logo!!
I’m getting free tickets to Underworld at the Opera House from work! Which means I can use my allowance on Aziz Ansari tickets! Then I have PUFFS for free on Thursday! Love my job.
I feel this is pretty much what happened with my wife. Shortly after meetin’ we were all: “We should hang out.” And that’s literally all I thought it would be.
She had other ideas. And I will be forever grateful!

Lol well I was the one that had the feelings for the majority of it. It took me 7 years but I’ll take it

I became an uncle this weekend! My sister had her baby a week early, but the length and weight are still a little above average and he and his mom are all healthy! I'm so excited since I'm really the only family he has in Chicago from either his mom or dad's side, so I'll have to spoil him a lot lol
Something that was actually planned this weekend that happened was that I rescued my first dog! My girlfriend and I adopted a four year old greyhound, he's a retired racer from Florida. Lady stinkyfingers grew up with dogs, but this is new to me so I'm excited and nervous. He's a little anxious of his new environment but I've been told he could be acting a lot worse, he hasn't cried too much (but who wouldn't cry going from playing with loads of other dogs every day to being with people you've only met once and no other dogs).
