I made it through the 2nd vaccine without side effects, and today is the perfect weather to celebrate my 27th birthday with bottomless mimosas on a patio!

Be careful of that sun. I got a little burnt on a patio Friday for pre birthday lunch.
So, I didn't get the job at the Opera House (I'm assuming at least, since they just straight up never called or emailed me back at all, despite both interviews going really well and me sending a thank you/follow up email as well as a phone call)
But, I did just accept a job at Ticketek! Which is our equivalent of Ticketmaster, but without all the fuckery. So I'm back in the industry, working with big promoters again and I'm super excited!!!

I have a meeting tomorrow with a researcher doing cool stuff at an institution where I'd want to be, in a location where I want to be.
Honestly trying not to get too excited or hopeful or whatever. But also.......
Hope your meeting went well!!
thank you! it did! i get an "official" interview in a couple weeks. its a job back home in my hometown so I'm really hoping it comes through. the pandemic and being home has really led to a change in perspective for the wife and I, and we decided we'd rather emphasize proximity to family (my folks, in this case) over "ideal" job, but this one checks both boxes so fingers crossed.
So I have a new job opportunity, but it is weighin' on me hard. I've been in the restaurant/bar game waaayyy too fuckin' long (22 years right now) and I've wanted out fer at least 15 years. But once you get too deep, it's hard to get out. So my father-in-law has kinda lined up a sales position at his company and it will net me twice my current taxable income, plus health insurance (which as a type 1 Diabetic) is huge fer me, and PTO. But I'm also just only a year away from finishin' my current associates degree in IT, specifically cyber security. And that's been my goal since I went back to school, and especially durin' the pandemic I'm thinkin' the option to work from home could be fantastic. Also with hopefully kids in the near future. So I don't think I really want this job, but there's a lot that weighs the scale in the other direction. The fact that they also do random drug tests makes me very unhappy. I don't party like I used to some 15 years ago, but once I clock out what fuckin' business do you have in my personal life? I can get waste-face on alcohol and they won't bat an eye, but I can't hang with Corncat or I'll get fired? GTFO. Blah, blah, blah, "adult" jobs bullshit.

Officially got a job offer today. Going back to Memphis to work at St. Jude as a research scientist!
First order of business, I'm probably gonna miss that phish show in AZ 3post1jack1, guess I better hope for some ATL or Nashville tix.
Second order of business...I gotta prep for a cross country move in the next 6ish weeks. Eek.

Congrats on the job! Also, one of my friends/ex-teammates works for St. Jude in Memphis. She loves working for them.

Dude that sounds amazing! Meaningful work at a great institution!
Phish lotto ends this Monday so you should request those alpha tickets, would love to see you there.
I found an apartment. Somehow I found one that was within my budget but also has a whole extra room and half bath? Five blocks from work in one of the most desirable parts of the city? I'm not questioning it. I've been obsessively searching for the past two weeks and had finally reached the point of acceptance that I was going to have to make concessions on some things, but this has everything I wanted and is cheaper than a lot of the 1BR places I was looking at.
Only negative really is that the bedroom and office room don't have windows (second means of egress is the "skylight", for those wondering about fire codes), so I'm gonna have to work some magic with lighting and ventilation but...that's a worthy tradeoff. I was the first person to check it out and applied for it immediately after so everything should be good as long as nothing weird pops up with my background check. Got to meet the current tenants too and they agreed it's an absolute steal and they've had no issues with the place. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Welcome back to Tennessee! Hope you get those Phish tickets in Nashville. There is a group of inforoosters going and I’m sure there will be a meet up before as you do not eat and drink at the Ascend.
