Here's where it gets funny, and please explain:
Mine:
The Who New World Music Theater Chicago 2000-Just a let down, not sure what I was expecting, but a let down. I did sit 3 people down from Dennis Miller though. Weird.lol. At least I got to see John Entwistle before he died.
Beck w/ Flaming Lips 2001 Sea Change Tour Detroit Opera House- Just crappy versions of good songs, stripped down ALL acoustic, the PA was on like level 2 at best. Just NOT what I was expecting from Beck. Still a fan however. Why is it so hard or inconceivable to have a concert loud??
Nine Inch Nails VA Bch, VA 2005 Verizon Wireless Amphitheater- Ok show, again with the building it up in your head and finding that Trent Reznor is now like 230lbs and his band has gone through the 50th lineup change.
Tool Brelin Arena MSU Lansing, MI 2001-I only complain because there were seats in this place even on the floor for TOOL! WTF?!?!?! The next night in a flophouse sports arena in Toledo was amazing.
Pixies Some festival, Porto Portugal 2005- They just sucked, sorry Pixies fans, Frank Black couldn't hit a note to save his bald butt living life. I wish i kept the receipt for that one.

Bad Company & Molly Hatchet - Some biker rally in Downtown Tucson - 2006 - Do I need to elaborate? It was hilarious, and there were good bands playing other stagers earlier in the day, so It wasn't a total loss.
Ugly Cassinova & the Helio Sequence - Club Congress - Tucson 2002 - Helio Sequence sucks balls. Ugly Cassinova was the most abbrasive show I've ever seen. Isaac spent most of the show screaming at people in the audience through a megaphone. At one point he jammed the mic into it and laied on the siren. I think he wanted to deafen the entire crowd.
The Eels Club Congress - Tucson 2003 - I expected way more out of this show. I like their albums, but the live show was just non-descript 4-piece rock band versions of mostly newer songs.
Widespread Panic - Bonnaroo 2003. I am not a Widespread Panic fan, but I have sat through many of their Bonnaroo sets and been mildly entertained. This one, however, did even less for me and I walked out in boredom.
The Dwarves - Vaudville Cabaret - Tucson - 2006 - Good band, Too loud for the venue. I had to listen from the patio and miss the dwarves' kick-ass stage presence. Mondo Generator opened and sounded much better.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

1. bob dylan atlanta 2007 (his voice is gone his band played the same song 20 times the only good thing was jokerman encore) 2. red hot chili peppers at lolla 06 (45 minutes of pretty much the new cds then 20 minutes of waitin encore they play 1 song then 10 minutes of waiting and they played give it away. they had a hour a half set but wasted 30+ minutes of it) 3. umphreys mcgee at lolla 06 (boring) 4. flaming lips at roo 07 (not the music that was great just way to crowded) 5. superjam 07 (again not the music just the fact i couldnt see anything couldnt dance and it was like a sauna in that tent)

I don't think I can number them appropriately, but these 5 concerts stand out as my least favorite times....
1. 3 Doors Down with Tantric opening for them. What can I say... I was young and stupid and had a terrible taste in music. But even at the time, I could see that this concert sucked big time. The only saving grace was this killer drum solo that went on for around 10 minutes. The rest just consisted of 3DD's lead singer throwing his mic stand against a wall for 2 hours. Apparently that produces a "badass" image that he was looking for
2. The Nightwatchman @ Roo 07 (sorry bama!!) Basically, I had never heard of Morello's solo career and only knew the Rage/Audioslave Morello. So a guy in a baseball cap with an acoustic guitar just immediately killed my expectations. His performance of Guerrilla Radio was pretty good, but honestly I'm surprised I even stuck around long enough for that.
3. Carbon Leaf. One of my favorite bands, so it kills me to have them on this list... but either the venue or the sound crew screwed up big time. All anyone could hear was the drums. The singer was shouting into the mic and nobody could hear him, the guitarist (who is incredible, btw!) couldn't be heard, but it sure looked like he was being impressive... Just a terrible show.
4. Matchbox 20 with Fountains of Wayne. To this day, I will defend Fountains of Wayne as a solid band. Sure, their one big hit that anyone knows is stupid and retarded, but their other stuff consists of catchy riffs and fun lyrics. Unfortunately, the power went out halfway through their show. Then MB20 came on and the power went out again, and Rob Thomas thought he could be a saving grace and tried to play an acoustic guitar and sing to an audience of a couple thousand pissed off teenagers.
5. Bubba Sparxx. It was a free concert, so why not show up?? Yeah... I probably should have just stayed home. Although I must admit it was mildly entertaining to see a crowd of roughly 100 lanky white college kids trying to act ghetto to the beats of Bubba Sparxx
I feel like my list didn't really need any explanations for the most part... but hope you enjoyed them anyways
In no particular order except that in which I remember them:
Tonic, the Rave - Milwaukee, late 97/early 98 I went because my girlfriend at the time wanted to go. I was never a big fan. There were a shitload of frat guys there who had no idea pit etiquette nor the appropriate intensity with which to mosh to Tonic of all bands. I had to do way too much time at that show just protecting my date.
Smashing Pumpkins, Marcus Ampitheatre @ Summerfest/Milwaukee, June/July 98 The tix were graduation gift for the aforementioned ex-gf; exchange students from Germany & Japan were also in attendance. They were the most expensive tix I had ever purchased up until that point. The setlist was pretty much every song from the Adore album, plus four songs: the three big Mellon Collie singles - including a sped-up "just drums and Billy screaming" version of Bullet With Butterfly wings - and a Cheap Trick cover.
Bobby Vinton, Branson MO, Dec 95 Homer Simpson was right about Branson: "like Las Vegas, if it were run by Ned Flanders." The band trip was marching in the Branson Christmas parade. Even winning first didn't take the sting out of being in that awful town. This concert was chosen by the band director, who figured a bunch of high schoolers would want to see someone more appealing to their grandmothers' demographic. I've never seen so many spitballs fired out of boredom. Some of my friends & I pleaded to go see Yakov Smirnov instead. Sadly, we would have been much better off.
Eddie Money, Summerfest - Milwaukee, June 2006 This show came to mind while I was on the subject of sweaty, washed-up acts who bring their progeny onstage. My friend & I were there to see the Violent Femmes at 10pm, but to pass the time Eddie Money was headlining the oldies station stage. We're surprised we sat through 45 minutes - including the three songs he brought his Avril Lavigne-wannabe daughter out to sing while he took a break. It was impossible to stick around for "Two Tickets to Paradise" in the midst of all the crap it entailed. The silver lining: the Femmes kicked some ass, and my friend asked me to be his best man.
Last, and certainly not least: Spice Girls, Marcus Ampitheatre - Milwaukee, July 1998 Myself, age 17, plus four girls: my sister, my gf's sister, a cousin - all age 8 - and another cousin - age 12. This was initially Tiffany's idea (I've just realized she's involved in 3 of these top-5 entries.) She saw NKOTB when she was a little girl, and didn't want her kid sister to miss out on her age group's equivalent. The plan was that the two of us, our younger sisters, and my 8-year-old cousin would go. Then, despite having those tix for 2-3 months ahead of time, she enrolled in a class on those nights that started 2-3 weeks before the show. So she bailed, and my other cousin took the ticket. I drove everyone in my parents' station wagon. An hourlong drive with that many chatty little girls seems a lot longer. The destination wasn't any better. The collective piercing shriek of about twenty thousand grade-schoolers when they hit the stage is the loudest thing I have ever heard, or probably ever will hear. There was no supporting act, only Spice Girls. There were two short sets - about an hour each - with an hourlong intermission in the middle. I was basically babysitting, but keeping tabs on three kids going to the girls' room in the intermission crowd was a royal pain. They did have an elaborate stage set-up for the Spice Boys (or was it Spice Guys?) to dance around on. I counted ten breaks for wardrobe changes. I think every Spice Girl (Ginger was not present) did a solo song or a duet just so the others could change clothes. It was probably the worst overall experience I'll ever have at a show.

What is this business about The Spice Girls being a bad show? Come on? What are you doing to my prepubesence? lol
I can only think of 1 show right now, but I'll add more later:
The Black Crowes - July 06 - Verizon Wireless Music Center (BHam) - Horrible. They jammed the entire time...which, while I don't mind jamming, was stale, old, repetitive, and BORING. They only played 2 of their hits (Hard to Handle and Twice As Hard). The highlight of the show was actually a cover of Cripple Creek. We left before the show was over it was so boring!
Without a doubt, the worst I've ever been to was John Entwhistle. It was a fairly small venue and it was entirely too loud...so loud that my then-husband's pants were VIBRATING. He had apparently been warned and the staff said he was doing it on purpose. After a polite but heated discussion with the box office, we got our money back and left.
Running a close second is Morrissey at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia sometime in the 80s. I'm a small girl and the seats were so tight that I couldn't put my legs in front of me. Couple that with mediocre sound and a bunch of screaming boys and girls in front of us and it was pure misery.

Ooh I have another one
The 2004 Crawfish Boil (multiple bands, Birmingham, AL) - Crowded, hot, with 39042834830 drunk agressive teenagers trying to "mosh". I got kicked in the head, had a beer spilled on me, and was nearly burned by some guy's cigarette. I had 3 big guys with me, and they had spend the whole time literally trying to keep crowdsurfers off of me. I'm a small girl, but I can hold my own in a crazy crowd, but it was still too much for me. Finally, the guys found a railing surrounding one of the support wires, and sat me on it so they could enjoy the show. People kept throwing stuff...the staff would ask them not to and then the band would encourage them to do it more. Finally, I saw a girl get carried out....she was KNOCKED OUT and bleeding from her head...apparently she had been hit by a glass tequila bottle. It was awful.
Also: Who the fuck smited me? Am I a victim of the mad smiter?

Also: Who the f**k smited me? Am I a victim of the mad smiter?
Jessica Simpson, New Orleans Area, - ha was dating a girl and she bought me tickets, what could I do? Anyway, it was terrible.
M.I.A. - Voodoo '07 - oh wow, how can she possibly get so much praise? I originally thought she wasn't even speaking English, only to find out she is from London. She's awful.
12 Stones - Mandeville Trailhead Amphitheater - Sound was terrible, and was nothing but 15 year old kids attempting to mosh. This one guy came up to me before the show started, I had bought a whole pizza for me and my friend. This random guy came up to me and asked for a piece of pizza for his like 9 year old son. I said sure for 2 bucks, and he flipped out on me. He told me I was being a f*cking a**hole for not helping his son out. That pizza cost me 18 bucks, no way I was just gonna give this guy a slice for free.
Electric Eel Shock - Bonnaroo '06 - I just laughed at these guys for about 20 minutes of their set, then left. It was too amusing, I couldn't take them seriously.
Pat Green - House of Blues - Country just not my thing. Got free tickets, went, got real drunk cause the music did not catch my attention. Sounded like any old country. If he's at Bonnaroo, I'll be elsewhere during his show.
1.) I was extremely disappointed in Parliament at the Smokin' Grooves tour back in 1998 (or so) at Darien Lake outside of Buffalo.
2.) Also, I saw 311 at the same venue at some point in the late 90s.
I remember being disappointed in those two acts particularly because I was so excited to see them and their shows just kinda fell flat.
3.) Blink 182 on the Sno-Core tour in 1997-98. (Are you sensing a pattern? I was in college in the late 90s, so I am subsequently hazy on a lot of dates from that time period. ) I just remember thinking Travis Barker eats drums for breakfast, but neither the guitar player or bass player were good enough to keep up in a live setting.
4.) Seether at a club in Boston when I used to work for a radio station up there. Bonus points of suckiness: I had to talk to a record label A&R guy the whole night. Creed was on the same label, so I had to listen to the A&R guy simulataneously drop names and try to convince me that Scott Stapp is NOT a doosh. Bleh.
5.) Oh, and Coldplay at the Avalon Ballroom in Boston in 2001/2002... It was just before they blew up. I just thought they were dull and completely forgettable.
It's cool to say you liked a band before they became huge, but it's even cooler to say you hated a band before they became huge.
M.I.A. - Voodoo '07 - oh wow, how can she possibly get so much praise? I originally thought she wasn't even speaking English, only to find out she is from London. She's awful.
You know, I read so much critical praise of MIA, yet talk to so many actual people who don't think that much of her stuff. I thought I was the only one...
What is this business about The Spice Girls being a bad show? Come on? What are you doing to my prepubesence? lol

That show was definetly not the best Crowes show I've seen, but I still liked it. Didn't they end with Instant Karma and also cover Tough Mama by Dylan. If not then I'm thinking of a different show, but I'm pretty sure I'm not (Verizon Wireless =Oak Mountain Amp...right??). You should give them another chance if they play 'roo this year. But Different strokes for different folks.
But the worst shows I have seen:
1. Beck at Bonnaroo 2006 .....okay the puppet thing was kinda cool for about 10seconds, then he halfass covers Radiohead and dresses like a bear while they play either loser or where it's at from the cd player (can't remember which one). I tried to leave, but the crowd surrounding us wouldn't budge. Of all the good artist playing at that time I goto Beck.
2. System of a Down/ Mars Volta at Gwinnett Arena ..... took my brother for his birthday and was kinda wanting to check out Mars Volta. The sound was good awful and I couldn't understand a word the singer was singing for Mars Volta, but SOAD were even worse.
3. Ryan Shaw opening up for Robert Randolph @ the Tabernacle..... He wouldn't stand still for two seconds and he kept trying to oversing everything. Problem was he couldn't sing to begin with so it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Kinda remind me of the Village People for some reason.
4. Trey latenight @ Bonnaroo 2005.... first time seeing Trey and I was very dissapointed. When the highlight of your show is the amount of glowsticks I see flying in the air, there is something wrong.
5. George Jones @ The Fox 2005 .....front row and i was pumped. His voice sounded great, but he decided to do several medley's of some of his hits. Instead of hearing maybe 10 really good songs there were 20 parts of songs put together (Hey Wille Nelson can get away with it because he only does one or two songs like that and they actually flow together very well). To make things worse his encore consists of him talking about his new bottled water line for 20 minutes then "He Stopped Loving Her Today". I wanted to hear the song, but not with a lecture on why his water is pure along with it......and I'm pretty sure he has drank way more vodka than h20 in his lifetime, so his water opinon holds no ground with me.

1 Everlast 2 Slaves on Dope 3 Dope 4 P.O.D. 5 anyone who played Ozzfest 2000
its all metal music, so clearly i hate metal now, went through the metal phase in high school but i grew up, got tired of crappy bands who thought they were good based on how loud they played, being a metal musician requires no talent, all it requires is turning up the amp as loud as it can get and having a distortion pedal, and i can't stand what most metal singers are singing about - death, hate, anger, war - i'm sorry i don't really relate to that stuff - i'm 26 now, not 13

hey now... even as a fellow no-metal enthusiast, I have to admit that there are several metal guitarists that are absolutely incredible and have amazing skills. To each his/her own in tastes of music... as I said, I personally cannot listen to metal... I just don't enjoy it. But they do have talent. Just not the talent to please everybody.
LOL! Karma strum....for being anti-pro-metal! And no worries on the Nightwatchman.....LOTS of youse were there and had the same opine.... To each his own as you say...you can't please ALL the peeps ALL the time...and thank goodness....how BORING would THAT be????
And I was thinking exactly the same on the Ben and VooDoo 08....I WANT to see THAT!! Even if it IS BORING...which I just can't fathom Ben being boring...but that's just ME ;D
Post by hellbilly96 on Jan 24, 2008 9:22:53 GMT -5
I went the wrong night to see "The Machine" and ended up seeing "George Clinton"...I couldn't make it past the first song. They were whispering "saaaativa" over and over again until..."Saaaativa" came out and started singing out of tune as loud as she could belt it out. I don't know if that was George Clinton's back up singers or not, but who ever they were...I couldn't take more than 15 minutes of it.
Maybe I was just disgusted by mixing up the dates and missing my favorite tribute band.
These weren't necessarily the WORST concerts i've ever been to, but definitely the most disappointed i've ever felt after shows... here's why.
1. Howie Day & Stereophonics @ The Norva 2/5/04 - I was amped for this show. I had been listening to Howie Day for years. He was a solo act up until this tour in 2004, where he decided he'd be better with a full band. WOOPS! I wanted to hear the loops and everything like that and i got none of it. On top of all of that Stereophonics was one of the bands i also had liked for years but they had just released a new album and every song in the set was from the new album but 1 song. WOW, what a letdown!
2. Trey Anastasio Band & The New Deal @ Landmark Theatre 4/26/05 - This was trey's first OFFICIAL show with his new band since Phish broke up the previous august(yes they played ACL, but that was kind of a warm up). It was not tight at all and the only highlights were covers, Oysterhead's "Oz Is Ever Floating” & the Led Zeppelin “In The Light” -> “I Am The Walrus” (The Beatles) to close the show. There was a ton of fluff and mindless/terrible noodling. After the show, trey came out with an acoustic guitar and says “sorry we’ve been bombarding you with new material tonight, thanks for hanging in there.” Then what does he do, he plays TWO MORE BRAND NEW songs! The next night at the Ryman Theatre he opened the show with “Back On The Train” & “Wilson” acoustic. Give me a break trey! Ps- The New Deal were really sweet
3. DMB & Mike Doughty @ TD Banknorth Garden 12/15/05 -This was the end of their first winter tour in many years, and I had extremely high hopes after the two brilliant nights at MSG the few nights before. Not only did I spend TONS of money to fly to Boston and stay at a nice hotel, but I came mainly to see this one show(DMB Show #7). Mike Doughty was terrible. DMB was absolutely boring and played NOTHING out of the ordinary/rare, except for The Christmas Song, which had been played every night that tour.
4. DMB & Robert Randolph/The Family Band @ John Paul Jones Arena 9/22/06 - 9/23/06 -DMB Shows #9 & 10… Again, tour closer, Brand New Venue, in his hometown of Charlottesville, where DMB began! Who didn’t have high hopes for this show?! They were solid shows yes… but on night two, every one was expecting a rare DMB song “The Last Stop”. It came encore time, they played “American Baby Intro” which is a great 1st encore song… next was coming “Last Stop” , right?! WRONG! Some prick in a trenchcoat snuck up on stage and although no one knows for sure why he was up there, whether it was to hurt someone in the band or not, everyone in the band was spooked! They played “Stay”… I walked out early… I couldn’t handle it… We later came to find out “Last Stop” WAS on the setlist…
5. Kansas @ Langley Air Force Base 4/27/07 - I figured I would go catch this free show at the local air show. Why Not? Legendary Kansas, I liked their old music. Wrong Again! They had a new album, they played a full 1.5 hours of new music. Their two great big hits “Dust In The Wind” & “Carry On My Wayward Son” were played in an encore… I know because I heard them as I was a few hundred years away, walking to my car. I was pissed…
Hmm, None that were particularly horribly, more so just disappointing (no order)
Not a full concert but... Muse at the Mercy Lounge, TN 2005? One of my favorite concerts, however! The opening band was terrible. The lead singer/guitarist thought he was Hendrix or something and decided to go off on some long guitar tangents - but he sucked. The band's music in general wasn't very appealing either.
Raconteurs at City Hall, TN 2006? City Hall...yuck! - the sound sucked! Also the band didn't have any new material, so it was real disappointing (and odd!) when they had to start playing songs over again, especially considering the show became such a big deal. (kind of wish we had sold our tickets - people outside were willing to pay $300 for 1!!!)
Cold War Kids at 'roo 2007 I had high expectations and was really hyped to see them, I LOVE the lead singer's voice, but he seemed terribly weak (I'm hoping it was just a bad day), plus if I recall correctly, there were some sound problems
White Stripes at Cannery, TN 2007 I think that the hype ruined the show They played mostly covers which was okay, but the crowd was way more focused on the scene rather than the band...lots of hipsters with Pbr's in hand, mingling and chatting. It was sad to have such an awesome opportunity to see them at Cannery, with such a disrespectful crowd. (and Jack was really giving it his all too)
Louis XIV, Hot Hot Heat, & The Editors @ Wildhorse Saloon, TN 2008 Never listened much to The Editors, but I'm a fan of both Louis XIV & Hot Hot Heat. Unfortunately Louis XIV weren't really into the show, Hot Hot Heat was awesome, but their sound got screwed up, & The Editors were just kind of boring and too mellow as a headliner (Hot Hot Heat put on a much better and really fun show - I feel they would have fit better as a headliner)
I've seen some pretty terrible shows, but I'm not counting them here because they were basically local bands from when I was in High school that were never that great in the first place
Electric Eel Shock - Bonnaroo '06 - I just laughed at these guys for about 20 minutes of their set, then left. It was too amusing, I couldn't take them seriously.
Gah! That was one of my favorite shows! I bought a t-shirt and everything.
They are pretty amusing though, I mean really...
The only concert I can remember that I really hated is Kathleen Turner Overdrive (an Atlanta punk band that had one of the guys from drivin and cryin). They opened for Rancid and the Offspring in '94 at the Masquerade in Atlanta. They were so bad one of the punks grabbed the lead singers guitar and dragged him into the pit. It was amusing.
