I love the ocean too, but I'm always worried I'm going to step on a crab or a jellyfish. The call of the waves always gets me out thera anyway, though.

Can't stand jelly fish, were everywhere when I would want to go swimming, couldn't shake the thought that while I was out there, I might run into a jellyfish.

I love the ocean, it's hard for me to stay out of it even with bad experiences with jelly fish and sharks and whatnot...(someone caught a shark exactly where we had been swimming an hour previously) So I am a firm believer in the ability to repress memories when I go to the beach lol....it's like it neeeverrrrrr happened
I've not been in the ocean in like 3 years, because everytime I go, I see a damned blue million jelly fish washed up on shore.
Well, not BECAUSE I see jellyfish, as I always know to look, and when I can't see, I float, but it sure as hell hasn't helped in rushing me back out to the ocean...
I love the beach and ocean though, unlike anything else on this planet,..
i love the ocean, always will...but with like any ecosystem, there are risks into venturing into them...a harmless pond could carry many parasites that can cause a plethora of problems for people that they infect...anywho, MOST animals are not out looking to pick a fight, but if they feel threatened they will stand there ground (including cute and cuddley panda bears)

I have to admit, I LOVE the beach more than anything too. I want to get married on the beach!
As far as the jellyfish go, it depends on the time of year that you go. The later it gets in the summer, the more jellyfish there are. We went to the beach one year and there were so many jellyfish out in the water that you could barely get in. We had to carry a spray bottle of vinegar to neutralize anybody who got stung it sucked! I also got a jellyfish stuck in my bathing suit TOP once....not a good time I had red streaks across my chest for a week!
I love the water though...it never fails. There are lots of scary things in it though. Did you know that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about our oceans?
Although now that I think about it, one time we were swimming and a school of stingrays came up really close to us...maybe I should have been more careful!!! haha
btw...i forgot to mention that many moons ago i was at south padre for the 4th of july and was out swimming...well, i got all wrapped up in a japanese man-o-wars tenticles...i just started swimming as fast as a could to shore not knowing what was hurting (i actually thought i was in the jaws of a shark)...long story short, i was stung all over and the lifeguard said that it was the worst he'd seen...meat tenderizer was not helping, so they took me to the hospital to get treated...however, i still love the ocean and all its wonders
for those that dont know what a japanese man-o-war is, its related to the jellyfish, but the sting is exponentially painful

dude...must be the corn from break...thats what i meant...karma for the correction
isn't it kinda racist to label them - I mean can't they just be a plain old Man o War
Not racism, Nationalism. The Portuguese take great pride in their Warriors, fighting off alien, potentially terroristic invaders of their Homeland Waters.

ahh - thanks for clearing that up then - and here I just thought maybe it was discrimation against Man o Wars - did not realize there was national pride involved

I'm curious, would the plural be Men-o-War or Man-o-Wars?

A man o' war is actually a colony of several different creatures, creepy.
not saying youre wrong, but are you sure...im pretty sure that i recall my invertebrate biology professor had used the term man-o-wars...however, i could have heard wrong, or maybe the professor was wrong (i find the later not too believable, so maybe it was me)

damn, i've gotten close to sharks (black-tip reef sharks and nurse sharks), rock fish and stingrays while diving and i never felt scared or anything, but when i see a jellyfish nearby, i start to freak out.
