My local brewery had a bottle release last week. It was a blue agave farmhouse ale, aged for 10 months in anejo tequila barrels and bottle conditioned for another 7 months. It checked in at 14% ABV. It was absolutely delightful, one of the best things they've done in their less than 2 years of operating. With their triple IPA returning next month, their mango hab pale ale, and the Douglas Tree Fir (DTF) saison, it's a good time to be over at Zeroday Brewing. Despite the nasty divorce their co-owners are going through.
That sounds quite tasty!
While the beer shop I frequent announced to their club members that they'd release tickets to acquire your six-pack of Hopslam at 9:30am, there was no one there when I pulled up just shy of 9am. It's usually been a popular event fer them, but not more than 10 people had come through the door by noon.
So I got some extra and am workin' out a trade with a good friend of mine in Colorado fer a bottle of Big Bad Baptista!
Thanks! We're staying in Old Town, have friends in Wicker Park and another neighborhood that Boyfriend keeps telling me but I just cannot remember. Our Wicker Park friends really want to take us to Lagunitas and mentioned Revolution. I'm trying to push everyone towards the breweries we don't really get here in NY.
No problem!
Begyle and half acre are about a 20 minute walk apart. There's also a bar across from half acre called bad Apple which has a huge craft beer selection.
In wicker park there is a place called links which has a nice variety of craft brews. They do a sausage link and drink lunch special. Also there's a pizza place called Dimos over there which has all sorts of fun slices and local beer on tap. luva and PorchRadio love it
I actually do love Dimos! Mac n cheese pizza is hapiness! And Begyle is my fave!
I was hanging out with the lady last night. One of the local beer places posted on Facebook how they had it on tap for a limited time. She was unaware of its existence apparently. She kind of lost her shit at the idea of a coffee and chocolate IPA and made plans to go Sunday. I made sure to pass along the recommendation.
I'm not well-versed in the beer world so I don't check this thread too often, but I'm glad to see the sour recommendations in here. I. Love. Them. The more sour the better. The only one I haven't really liked so far is Monk's Head sour ale, and my favorite so far is Allagash's Farm to Face. My girlfriend loves when I drink them because after each sip I tend to make a real puckered face and then go "oh that's great". They don't even taste like beer; they're just carbonated sour juice. I'm def gonna see if I can find the ones recommended here lately around me. Just wish they weren't so expensive. =/ There was a pint of something called Love Child #7 (not sure what brewery) but it was a little over $20, and that hurts to spend on one drink.

Love Child #7, I think, is a Boulevard Brewing entry.
I don't love sours, but based on the quality if everything else that they make, I'm sure you'll enjoy it

Forgive me if you're already all over this but there are a couple styles that fit into the "sour" family. Lambics, gose (or gueze), wild ale, Berliner weiss, Flanders red ale, and maybe farmhouse ale would all be relevant to your preferred taste. Just want to make sure you aren't missing out on a beer you might enjoy.
My favorite sours have come from Cascade, Prairie, Wicked Weed, and Orpheus. No idea of those distribute up your way. Cantillon is the world standard in sour brewing but it's incredibly rare in the US. One that I know should be available to you is Lindeman's Framboise lambic. I can drink gallons of that stuff.

Thanks for the info! I knew the goses were considered sours, though I've found that they generally don't provide the pucker I'm looking for. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Lindeman's; my local licka sto has a few Cascades so I'll probably try those in the near future.

Lots of Cascade brews are probably right up your alley. A couple of them have made my eyes cross with sourness.
I hear you on goses. I like them so it's probably not sour enough for you haha. If you see something spelled "gueze" instead of "gose" give it a try. Gose is a lemony, salty wheat beer. Gueze is a lambic blend and tends to be very dry and sour.

Keep in mind that most Lindeman's beers (including the framboise) are not "real" lambic. They are artificially sweetened and flavored after the brewing process which makes them much more palatable to the masses, but probably not as sour as you are looking for. That are also only 2.5% abv. Lindeman's does however make a couple of authentic lambics under the Cuvee Renee label as well as a handful of other rarer authentic lambics. I highly recommend checking out the site lambic.info as well as joining the facebook groups Sour Beer Lovers and Lambic Lovers.
I also echo the Cascade recommendation if you are looking for the extreme end of sour. Apricot is my favorite, but I haven't tried them all. The Rare Barrel is amazing but impossible to get. Same with De Garde. Same with Hill Farmstead.
Farm to Face is one of my favorites as well, you should basically be on the look out for every sour that Allagash puts out. Also look for Boon's Mariage Parfait. And finally, definitely do try Boulevard's Love Child series. Love Child #5 was the first sour beer I had that I absolutely loved. #7 is also very good, and a relative bargain at ~$18/750ml compared to Allagash's $15/375ml.

She's a fan. Heavier on the hops than the coffee and chocolate part for sure.
Love my local bottle shop! I get to walk away with one more Lagunitas High Westified bottle! Seein' as this is the last time this delectable beer will be produced I feel quite lucky!
And one of my favorites from local brewery Deep River, Bitter Unicorn Tears has just hit shelves! The beer's delicious, but I'd prolly buy it fer the label alone!
In a few hours they'll also be rafflein' off bottles of the always amazin' Sexual Chocolate from Foothills. Gonna cross my fingers that I win a bottle this year!

We went to The Flying Saucer last night. First time for me. The lady had gone before. They were out of my first two choices and the server then tried to do suggestions for me like I didn't know what the menu meant rather than they didn't have the things they had printed on their menu. I blame Rothric for this. Entirely his fault.
P.S. I actually liked the place and St. Bernardus knows how to make booze.

Ha, I can just imagine the look on your face as they tried to explain the menu to you.
I saw the Shiner/Chameleon beer in the store the other day, plan to pick up a 6 pack soon.

The last time I went to my local Saucer I had a similar problem. It's nice to have a local bar with that much potential variety, but also kinda frustratin' when taps can change frequently. I think I'm only some hundred beers away from my personal plaque though, so that's fun!
Wicked Weed already had pretty damn good distro though. This gets them across the Mississippi, I'm sure, but man, that doesn't seem worth it in a lot of ways.
Those other AB acquisitions barely warrant a second thought these days (except when Goose Island makes Bourbon County)
