As most of you know, we have several dogs. Well' we lost one this week; Scrappy, the only male and oldest.
When I say lost I mean it literally. He disappeared last weekend and we have not found him. He is old and never wanders far so we figure he's gone off to die and most likely the coyotes found the carcass. This is not uncommon in the country.
We live out in the woods and we've walked all the brush and looked in all the sinkholes with no trace. Also checked with neighbors and the pound as he had tags. There's also no smell of decomposition anywhere, which is a common way of finding lost, dead pets.
It's weird to grieve when there's no body but this isn't the first time this has happened but still unusual and a bit unnatural.
Just finished my last search in vain. I wanted to say he was a good dog and I hope he's chasing rabbits in doggy heaven.
RIP Scrappy.

cute dog my friend, it's always sad when you lose a pet, even worse when you lose him in that way. When I was younger my dog used to run away, go to the nearby park and then come back. Then one day he ran away without returning. I kept hopes up for about a week, then I was forced to say some kind of goodbye. It was frustrating as I never got to see him again to say goodbye.
Losing animals is a hard thing to go through... we used to have upwards of 20 cats when we lived in KY... Then we moved to TN, and could only bring 2... both disappeared one day.
I'm sorry for you, from one animal lover to another.
I know how you feel, I lost my dog the same way. I lived on my family's ranch every summer and she was my only companion there. I lived alone there except for her. I'm sorry for your loss.
I have an enormous, festering soft spot for animals and know just how tough that must be. It sounds like he lived an awesome life though and I'm sure he's off running around like a mad man in doggy afterlife!
My grandmother just lost her 11 year old boxer, Georgia. She was having trouble walking last friday and got some meds... then Sunday she found her hiding in the garage having a seizure
I'm sorry Troo, it hurts to lose a friend. If you decide to get a new friend though, pm me. I work with the Gibson County TN humane society and we have lots of 4 legged guys that would love to come home with you!

Aww sorry to hear that Troo
My dogs are my babies and I know I would grieve their loss just as much as a human family member. My shepherd, Karma is 13 so I probably don't have long left with her either. When it's time I will tell her to go find Scrappy to chase rabbits with
Here is a pic of her and my other dog Lucy:
