so the dates are in place for the 5th annual wakarusa. june 5th - 8th. always a nice warm up festival for bonnaroo ... and in close proximity too. checked pollstar and jambase and came up with
If anyone went to Wakarusa last year please give us your impressions of the festival. I'd like to know how far you had to camp from the stages, what the campground was like, how crowded it was, how late the shows lasted at night, etc. any input is appreciated.
thats a good question. i didnt hear anything about it. i was planning on going till alejandro cancelled. then i stopped paying attention. but i suppose that if i didnt hear anything ... thats not a bad thing.
Our friends went and said it was loaded with chiggers and tick's
i have a serious issue with chiggers. like i cant even type the word without getting seriously skeeved
You should have seen me just a few weeks before 'roo last year - made the mistake of working in the yard - had to go to the doc and get a decadron shot - antibiotics - anti-itch - it was not a pleasant experience

The Initial Artist Lineup has been announced!!!
Wakarusa is pleased to welcome the following artists to the 2008 festival lineup: The Flaming Lips, Keller Williams, Leftover Salmon, Cake, Galactic, Buckethead, Lotus, David Grisman Quintet, Old 97's, Alejandro Escovedo, Tea Leaf Green, Ozric Tentacles, Brett Dennen, Blackalicious, Dr Dog, State Radio, Betty LaVette, Split Lip Rayfield, The Avett Brothers, Yard Dog's Road Show, The Gourds, Steel Train, Trombone Shorty, Chicago Afrobeat Project, Heavy Pets . . . . and many more to come.
I can't frigin wait. Last year was my first Wakarusa and it was absolutley AMAZING!!! The grounds for the festival are absolutley perfect. If you get upgraded camping, you get water and electric. These spots are further away, bu the have the NO WAKA shuttle that takes you all over the festie site. You can also take bikes if you want to ride a bike all day from stage to stage and from campsite to stage. That was one of my favorite parts. I really had no problem with the chiggers and ticks. Just make sure you get DEET. The music lasted well to 6 in the morning. Friday night, we raged all night. From Ben Harper to the end of New Mastersounds, into Yonder 12-2, TLG from 2-4, and zilla until after 6. If you have any other questions about Waka shoot me a PM.

I forgot to tell you about one of the best parts of the location of Wakarusa. It is in Clinton State park, which has Clinton Lake. The lake is massive, and provides a nice place to cool down during the day. There is a beach and everything. So perfect after you have been under the sun all day.
we have been the last 3 (4) years and will of course go again ... last year it was there, then off to the roo so we will see how it goes this year ... i will post some thoughts later on camping etc .... cr****
There are usually 5-10 groups that Wakarusa and Bonnaroo end up sharing. I'm thinking Cake, Buckethead, The Avett Brothers, Lotus, Tea Leaf Green, The Gourds and Old 97's might be prime candidates for Roo this year. So far that is...
I would hope for Leftover Salmon - is that the same lineup as they had like 5-10 years ago? I'm so out of the loop I didn't even know they were getting back together...
A handful of the above mentioned acts will perform two shows, including bonus late night gigs by Keller Williams, Galactic, Buckethead, Yard Dog's Road Show, Tea Leaf Green and Ozric Tentacles. Since the latter group had issues entering the country last spring, the festival jokingly promises, "2 special late night sets and confirmed visas!"

I was pretty upset last year after WSP rocked the house, we walked to the Revival Tent to see Ozric........only to find out they weren't there. Then it started pouring down rain as we made our way to the Everyone Orchestra. Sick show. After that Lotus to the wee hours of the morning, dancing in the mud......

those late night Lotus shows are always the best ... where we camp, we are only about 50 feet from that stage, so we can sit in our campsite if we want and just listen to the tunes .... i have my tics ... and we will park in the place we always park ... its so cool cuz it is right on the road, and we get to see everyone come in and out ... so much fun ... cr****

is leftover salmon a headliner? i've heard their name before, but don't really know much about them. i did read their bio on the waka page. anyone think they'll be at bonnaroo? didn't they play at least one of the first roo's? if there is a jamband that bonnaroo wants to bring it back to its roots, this sounds like the band to me. i love widespread, but bring us someone different that pleases the same fanbase.

I do not think Leftover will be a headliner, although who am I to say that. However, these guys can throwdown. If you get a chance, go to the archive and get their set from Telluride this year. Absolutely rocks. I can't wait to see these guys at Waka.
As for them being at Bonnaroo, I would say it is a good chance. They just started playing together again at Telluride last year, so I would say that they are ready to put as many shows and festies under their belt as possible this summer.
