I will probably be able to make that. Though I might have to miss most of Friday. But between time off for 'roo, all good, lollapalooza and one trip to boston, I have to save at least a day or two for the holidays next year with the family.

I usually try to make it there every year. Good fest for the price. Only thing that sucks is that you have to pay extra for the late-nights in a HOT ass barn. Hopefully they change that with adding the extra stage this year.

You know you want to go, Meg.... Three nights of moe. ;D
I'd love to go to that fest. I've been wanting to go since they started doing it a few years ago. I've been to the moe.down, and snow.down, but haven't been able to swing Summer Camp yet.

LOL - we'll see - it conflicts with a few other things for me

I'm thinking of possibly going but have a couple questions before I make the final decision. Maybe some of you who have been there can help.
1) It says no outside alcohol allowed. Does this mean just in the main stage area, or the entire place (camp area, parking lot, etc)
2) What about outside food? It says this is not allowed in the main concert area, so I assume its ok parking lot and campground...
3) How far of a walk is it from the parking lot to the campgrounds? Can you choose what campground you want?
4) What's security like? A car search to get in the parking lot, then a person search for the campground...or what?
5) Do we have to leave Sunday right after the music or can we stay until Monday morning?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!
1. Yep, they don't want any alcohol in the campgrounds if memory serves me right, but you can always try to sneak some in. I think they want to cut down on underage drinking. You'll need a wristband to buy beer once inside.
2. You can bring in a grill and your own food into the campgrounds but they have food vendors in the main area.
3. Only about a 5 to 10 min walk depending on where you park. And yeah it's first come first serve on camping areas.
4. They'll do a quick serach of the car for any banned items then you'll be good. As long as you use some discretion and don't get too e'ffed up the security inside will be no hassle. They also search every time you enter the stage areas.
5. You can stay until monday morning, the music ends around 11 pm or so on sunday.

Summer camp is a lot smaller than other music festivals that I have attended. I believe that the attendance was around 7500 people last year. They do not allow outside alcohol but you can definitely attempt to sneak it in. Summer camp is different from Bonnaroo in the camping aspect as well because you park outside of the camping area and have to drag all of your stuff inside Three Sisters Park where you camp. It seemed like a game for most people trying to sneak alcohol past the security guards who search through your stuff as you enter the park. They take all of the alcohol and throw it in a big truck and they seem like they enjoy doing it. People tried all kinds of things from burying them in the bottom of coolers to concealing cans of beer or bottles of alcohol in sleeping bags. They definitely look in your coolers and push on your sleeping bags so people were met with various levels of success. My advice is if you are to attempt it do not buy expensive liquor because I saw many bottles of expensive vodkas and the like shatter when they hit the truck. Some people lost over $100 worth of alcohol and it didn't take long for the truck to fill up. On the other hand, because they are looking for alcohol it makes bringing in "snacky treats" a little bit easier.
Food is allowed everywhere but the main stage but you could probably bring food there if you wanted. The best aspect about not parking by your cars and going through security to get into the park is that there are no security checks between the camping area and the stage area.
You can choose your own camping spot. If you go to the pre-party on thursday, which I would highly suggest doing because it was the most fun day of the festival, your camp site will be less than five minutes walking distance to the mainstage. Again summer camp is not that big but by the Friday night i would estimate a 10 minute walk to the stages. Showing up early gets you a good camping spot in the wooded area where you will have shade as opposed to the open fields ala bonnaroo that are taken up by the people arriving latest.
Once you get past the initial security that wants to steal your alcohol, you are in the clear. Security is composed mostly of young adults who look like everyone else attending the festival. They are extremely easy going and you can pretty much do what you want. I spent the majority of Friday and Saturday in the front row next to security smoking my bat and watching Keller Williams one day and Les Claypool the other.
The Summer Camp 2008 Music Festival had made some extensive additions to its line-up. STS9, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, G. Love & Special Sauce, Tea Leaf Green, Clutch, Blind Melon, The Lee Boys, Hot Buttered Rum and Banyan are among the artists confirmed for the festival which will return to Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL from May 23-25.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
the problem with this festival for me is that its always the same weekend as jam on the river. and since JOTR is much closer to me, it always is easier and cheaper to do JOTR. this really is a fantastic lineup this year though, and if JOTR lineup sucks, i'll seriously consider summer camp this year instead.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
Jesus was an only son And love his only concept Strangers cry in foreign tongues And dirty up the doorstep And I for one, and you for two Aint got the time for outside Just keep your injured looks to you Well tell the world we tried
The adds are amazing and i am def going. I am missing bonnaroo for the first time in like 4 years.
So what is the deal with alcohol???? Is it really that tough to get in? Is there anyway, you can go in without it during the day then walk back sometime at night and get more? Do they have security 24/7?
I guess b/c it's a state park your not allowed to drink there but that is ridiculous.
Any insight on this will help, believe it or not this is a breaking point for me. No way I am paying for beers the whole weekend from a beer stand. I will spend around $1000
I can't wait. The line up is looking sick as hell.

You are not allowed to bring in your own alcohol. They have beer/liquor stands around the whole place though. You can also buy cases of beer, for a nice little fee. Last year we put handles of liquor in the middle of our sleeping bags and we got that in fine. We also took cases of coke and sprite took some out and filled some of the extra room with beer, and re-glued the box up. We got caught with one box, but the other one we got in fine when we went out to the car around 4am. They do have "security" 24/7 but its just volunteers, when we came back from the car at 4am they did not search us at all.

Help my friends play Summercamp! The Incredible Heat Machine have a chance to play along with these great bands and if any of you guys like what you hear, and are in the Nashville region, please help these guys out and come out to Windows on the Cumberland on March 1st. I will copy and paste what the guitarist wrote on their blog from myspace about the show.
You can help us play @ Summer Camp 2008 "Hey guys - John here. I wanted to drop in and let you know that we have a really important show coming up and we need your help! We have been selected to play for a chance to perform at this year's Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL, along with the likes of moe., Umphrey's Mcgee, The Flaming Lips, and more. Here's the skinny: Loyal Family Promotions is going to ten different cities and selecting one band from each city to go to Summer Camp. The talent search is stopping in Nashville for 3 nights at Windows on the Cumberland (the new location - 515 2nd Ave. South). We will be playing on March 1st, the final night of the search. Out of all the bands playing during these 3 nights, they are only selecting one band, and the winner is determined by fan votes. This is where you come in. We need your vote! There are some great bands playing so we're going to need as many of you as possible to come out. If you've ever been to Summer Camp, you know how big of an opportunity this is for us. Cover will be $6 and we'll have more details about specific performance time coming soon. We also will be chartering a party bus from Murfreesboro to Nashville for the event, so send us an email if you would be interested in riding. Spots are limited, but we're going to have some carpools available too. This is going to be HUGE and a lot of fun, so we hope you can make it!"
I hope there are no rules for sharing local music but I really would like everyone to check them out. Here is a sendspace link for a live recording (with RAQ's recording gear) of their show from last November 30th. I hope you enjoy the music and I would really like to be able to go to Summercamp and get to see my friends play in a festival setting. Thank you and karma if you go and check them out online or in person.

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
