dying for this fest so sad i cant go
What do have going on that you can't go? I think I'm prolly going to go and want to have fun with you!
traditionally i go away with my non-fest friends 4th of july weekend. its my bday july 1st...i think they would be SUPER pissed at me.... plus i am holding out for allgood. never say never tho especially cuz i am almost def. not going to roo this year...
I was all set to buy VIP bonnaroo tix on Saturday. Now I see this..2 hours away from my wife's family, which we were planning on visiting July 4th weekend anyways.
And VIP tix are $150 cheaper. Now what am I going to do.

i mean each fest offers different things. i dont think its a bad thing to want to try something new, and expand your festival mind . then again, your point is taken. butttt honestly, this lineup is more up my ally.
Edit: On a side note, can you say SATURATION OF THE MARKET for festivals?!
Yup...and it's gonna kill them.
Just like when Lolla had to suddenly compete with Lillith, Ozzfest, Horde, Smokin Grooves, Warped Tour and the other 9 million shows that stole their business model...see how well that worked out for everyone.
Unless you're all rich and I didn't know...there's only so many dollars to go around for these types of things...

Yea I dont know what to do either. Most of the bands I want to see at Roo are the smaller acts. I dont know if the drive is worth it esp. with this being so close. But I REALLY want to see them.
Maybe if I get accepted to volunteer at Rothbury, I'll be able to do both

^^^ this is why they announced it just a few days before roo tickets go on sale
and yeah its super over saturated......but i dont know if its really gonna kill them..we will see i spose.
I just wish the pesky duo of 'occupation and monetary system' weren't always mucking everything up for me. We could avoid all these stupid arguments about what's BETTER or more to one's liking if we could go to ALL of the festivals!

HARDLY--I'd call our concert situation a saturation of soul-less corporate venues.
I can drive 2 hours from my house and hit around 5 ampitheatre type summer venues.
I can drive 13 hours south to the Roo. OR 4 hours Northwest for this one.
YES-more festivals.
OVERSATURATED ?--methinks you spoke too quickly. Might be oversaturated if they were offering county fair artists.
It's half the size of roo-and many folks are already thinking of doing it INSTEAD due to proximity and artist lists. Echo had trouble with attendance, but I would suspect it was too close to Bonnaroo compete.

To some extent, yes, but one thing to consider is that the festivals are not just competing with each other, but also with the typical 1-3 band concert tours. The success of the festivals may not come at the expense of other festivals, but at the expense of typical concerts instead. I know I don't go to nearly as many concerts in the summer, and I won't make a trip to catch a band on tour if I'll see them at Bonnaroo.

I don't necessarily agree, but assuming you're right, then we're on our way to a much more regionally based festival system. Let's face the fact that most folks out there aren't going to be hitting every festival they want to hit - whether it's due to money, travel, time off work, or whatever. This leads to folks crowding to the one that's closest to them, which will in turn lead to repeat acts at multiple festivals. We're already seeing it now, but it'll just be more defined as more of these mid-major festivals pop up.
Personally, the trip and meeting folks from all over the country is half the appeal for me. I know I can't speak for everyone here and only time will really tell, but I'm not certain a million festivals competing with each other will be good in the long run.
Edit: For the record, I'm as excited as the next person to potentially have a fest sprouting up in my backyard (Mile High Music Fest), but I don't want it to kill the appeal of my cross country trips to fests!
I'm sold say what you want but this fest is where its at this year no dought about it. I love broo but they let me down with the line up. I read this line up and I needed to change my pants

Aquarium-You're right. They can't all last forever. Roo was really special for the sake of what you mentioned-gearing up, making an epic journey, meeting new friends from all over. I don't disregard that at all. I will miss it. But the benefits of regional fests will outweigh the costs. Folks who have never been to a Roo will have the times of their lives at Rothbury, much like fans who were never at the first couple of Roo's will not understand the comparison between Bonnaroo 03 and 08 and will typically rank anyone who draws the comparison as a hater. But it will all even out. People who would never travel 13 hours and wait in line 20 hours will come out of their shells to travel to well organized regional fests. I have seen it in my own backyard with Nelson's Ledges. And it has been great for them, and no less appreciated than Roo by many of their attendees.
I just chose to react because of the OVER in oversaturation. Like water, things will naturally find their levels. But as fans, opportunity has never been better. Especially if you are free to travel FURTHUR, then you can travel to accommodate taste, adventure, or whatever suits you.

either that or retarded... you know how crazy the roads are on July 4th weekend... should be a helluva trip for sure...
Man, you're in a negative mood today
not really... i just DREAD even going to wal mart or anywhere 15 minutes down the road on the interstate during the 4th of July. i can't imagine fighting real traffic getting there, then fighting festival traffic, then fighting festival and real traffic going home.
