They haven't announced the line-up yet, but JamBase & Pollstar have listed a few acts: Joan Jett & the Blackhearts Santana The Roots Buddy Guy Charlie Musselwhite Doyle Bramhall Jonny Lang Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials Keb' Mo' Lurrie Bell Hubert Sumlin Pinetop Perkins Back Door Slam Bettye LaVette Watermelon Slim Nick Moss & the Fliptops Samuel Jones My Chemical Romance
I'm sure there will be lots more acts. Those are basically just the blues tent acts and a few big names so far.
Yeah, I'm sure I'll be there too. I've been every year since '94. Seen a lot of great acts there too over the years. My only problem with the fest in recent years is the amount of drunks that start fighting there when someone like Kid Rock or Lynyrd Skynyrd have played it in the past. Hopefully, there won't be much of that this year. And of course it WILL rain. A lot of people around here call it Memphis in Mud, because it rains every year and gets quite muddy. But that's OK; a little mud doesn't bother me. One of my friends has said that Aretha Franklin is rumored to play, but I'll have to see it officially before I believe that.
Lord dont let my 12 yo daughter hear the Chem romance is playing, she will be bugging the crap outta me.....
Hey - can I give her a quick call for ya????? Then you can suffer through it with me - LOL boz has backed out and opted to stay home with the baby - it will be me, my BF Lisa (my 'roo buddy), my daughter and one of her friends - should be fun
ahhh...musicfest...fond high school & early college memories...
i think the last year i went was 04. i know in 05 i decided to deliver pizzas all weekend and capitalize off the late nite munchies crowd and totally made about $400 over the weekend in tips.
Aretha is playing...saw it on the Tigers message board. Now I am totally conflicted, I was hoping for a crappy lineup so I wouldn't feel bad about missing it to save $ for roo, now I am thinking I will have to go at least the one night that Aretha is playing...maybe the night Sheryl Crow plays too, damn.
why oh why cannot people that run websites not get their crap together - the line up is suppoes to be released today - don't they understand that we are waiting
Yeah, I'm definitely going again this year. The full line-up will be announced at 2pm (less than an hour from now). Tix go on sale at 3pm today, but it usually takes forever for them to sell out so I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to get them.
I like it, if I win the lottery between now and then, I'll definitely be there, otherwise probably not, with other fests coming up. I'll put it on my calendar, just in case.

I'm actually going to be in Memphis that weekend for a bachelor party.
Can anyone who has been before answer a few questions for me?
How many people go to this fest? It says the Beale Street music fest, but isn't in a park somewhere? Is that park on Beale street? What is downtown going to be like while all of this is going on? Thanks in advance
A lot of people come to this festival, but it's scattered over 3 days. Sometimes up to 120,000 or more; the park actually sells out sometimes. It's held at Tom Lee Park down on Riverside Drive (directly next to the mighty Mississippi). You can see Mud Island across the way. They close off Riverside Drive during the whole month of May. Downtown will be packed and Beale Street will be totally packed with people. Parking can be difficult, but the "regulars" who live here probably know some good spots to park without costing an arm & a leg. Beale Street intersects into Riverside Drive, by the way. Hope this helps.
By the way, there's other events in the month of May in Riverside Park too. The International BBQ Festival is 2 weeks after the Music Fest, and it's a blast if you know somebody on a team down there. Then the following weekend from that is the Sunset Symphony, where they have the Memphis Symphony Orchestra backing a performer. I saw America there one year.
I knew that was gonna happen - Black Crowes on Sunday and there is no way I can stay up there until Sunday - Friday and most of Saturday - even late Saturday night and then drive home - but kids gots school on Monday and I have to drive to Gulf Shores on Monday for a work retreat

It does, thank you. I think we are staying in a hotel right next to the Redbirds stadium. We don't plan on doing much driving, so hopefully the hotel has a place for us to park and we won't have to worry about it. Even though we aren't going to the festival, I'm glad that we will be down there while it is going on. The atmosphere will be great.
Why the hell do the Crowes have to play on sunday?? I'll probably go Saturday & Sunday, but the lineup is kinda weak. I'll only see Santana, Buddy Guy, Cat Power, The Crowes,Doyle Brahmall, Aretha, John Butler Trio... hell i may even give Lou Reed a second chance (he sucked ass the first time I saw him).
Edit: Just noticed this Pinetop Perkins & Hubert Sumlin W Billy Gibson... that will be badass.

I would like to stay on Sunday to see:

I am looking forward to Saturdays shows - Friday night - not so much - we got a hotel in Horn Lake - cheap price - good location - hate to have to drive in and pay for parking but.....that's what happens when you wait til the last min
The girlfriend and I shall be attending on Saturday. I told her that if Disturbed played anywhere close I would take her. I'm really looking forward to seeing Matisyahu again since I've only ever seen him at Roo. Good prep for my baby's first Roo coming up in a few weeks. Hope I get a chance to run into you again Meg!
