To be honest....I'm a bit underwhelmed so far. Spiritualized and Boris on Sunday make me jealous, but sort of weak sauce compared to the past couple of years....
Surprised by the lukewarm reaction. I think this is an amazing start to the line-up.
M. Ward is enough for me, but Public Enemy, Vampire Weekend, Boris, Animal Collective, !!! are pretty solid support. I have a lot of confidence in the additions to come too.
Super-psyched and definitely getting three-day passes next Wed.
Sally Shapiro was on the leak I saw this morning, everything else was the same I think.
I think the disappointment comes in comparison with the past two lineups.
2006 was amazing. 2007 wasn't quite as good, but it was more interesting. Adding that phenomenal ATP night really made it a desirable festival to attend.
But this...I don't know. Hard to justify the expense of a trip to Chicago. I noticed they're leaving those top slots open on each day, so I'm holding back judgment until I see the rest of the lineup, but this year I'm waiting to see some more additions before I buy a pass...

There are still 2 more Don't Look Back acts to be announced, and since they've only announced twelve other bands so far, we can probably expect another 25 - 30 TBA. Less premature complaining and more premature speculating! I'm hoping for Silver Jews, Malkmus and Yo La Tengo doing Painful for DLB.

Agreed, it's way too early to begin forming opinions since we only have at most 1/3 of the lineup. And we are not looking at the top names yet, either-- remember that last year Yoko Ono was an addition. However I understand feeling underwhelmed. Boris is a great choice, as is Spiritualized, and there are a couple other nice nabs in there, but not much weight yet.
Its a definate possible. Im holding off till I see Lolla's line up but the fact that they have Spiritualized and P.E. is almost enough to cough up the $65 and skip the other Chicago fest.
Fleet Foxes are awesome. this is the same weekend as camp bisco tho. sigh... the festival gods are looking down at the frown on my face and having a ball up there
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
If I remember correctly, the difference between buying the early bird 3 day passes and the later one is like $15. Given the lackluster lineup, I would be absolutely shocked if they sold out fast. But then again, I might be totally out of touch with what excites the kiddies these days....

I'm wondering if Panda Bear solo will be an add. He's an indie darling, but no other fest has got him. And we all know how head-over-heels Pitchfork was for his album. If he's already there with AC, perhaps.
I'm going to consider a two-day pass -- Spiritualized, M. Ward, VW, Animal Collective, Boris, and a passing interest, or curiousity, in the others would sell me on that. I need to commit myself soon though, before I find a reason to blow it off.
New additions today. Dinasaur Jr. and Wu-tang members will probably be of interest to many. Those adds aren't really up my alley, but I think Reatard, King Khan and Mission of Burma will be cool. Interesting to see that they are bringing back people who have played Pitchfork before (even if its Ghostface w/ Rae and Mission of Burma ATP). Here's the updated sched with new adds:
Friday, July 18: Pitchfork Music Festival and All Tomorrow's Parties present "Don't Look Back"
Public Enemy performing It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back * Mission of Burma performing Vs. * + one more to be announced
Saturday, July 19:
Animal Collective * Jarvis Cocker * !!! Vampire Weekend Dizzee Rascal Fleet Foxes No Age * Jay Reatard * * King Khan & His Shrines * Atlas Sound * The Ruby Suns * * A Hawk and a Hacksaw * * Occidental Brothers Dance Band International * + many more!
Sunday, July 20:
* Dinosaur Jr. * Spiritualized M. Ward * Ghostface and Raekwon * * The Apples in Stereo * Boris * Dirty Projectors * * Cut Copy * Extra Golden El Guincho * Fuck Buttons * + many more!

This pretty much seals the deal. I still have to figure out if I can afford the trip to Chicago, but given the awesomely low ticket prices, I think I'll have to manage.
That being said, I really really REALLY hope they add The Hold Steady. Given the way they fawn over every album they put out, and the fact that they're playing the ATP Vs. Pitchfork in England, it seems like a no-brainer.
Just seems like an off year to me. ATP holds next to no interest to me. Saturday is filled with iffy acts. Sunday looks great to me, but a group like the Apples in Stereo being on the bill is a bit telling. Pitchfork NEVER gives AIS very good reviews. And they don't usually book bands they aren't totally (and sometimes inexplicably) enthralled with.
funny how out of all the wu tang members they got Ghostface and Raekwon who i thought always had a little bit of beef.. But money always can resolve issues.. Have to say they are probably the two more popular members of wu tang with method man in the whole mix..

Rae and Ghost are constantly on each other's albums (OB4CL, Iron Man, etc), I'd say they're probably the two tightest Wu members...
Now that has me thinking. I've never listened to M Ward but picked up the She & Him album by chance. I definitely love it. I'll have ot check out the M Ward solo.
