do not miss Magdalena Bay if they tour anywhere near you. idc if youve seen them before or caught a messier set from when they first started touring. They completely revamped their live set for Imaginal Disk and its absolutely fucking amazing. the crowd had so much energy too
I've seen some tiktoks and very bummed they didn't play KC/Lawrence, hopefully they do a part 2 in the spring. I know a lot of people that just got into them and I'm sure they'd move tickets in the college town.
posting to come back to this, but I have so many good things to say about the BEAT tour
did this very last minute and got what seemed to be the only available floor seat at face (cheaper than the bleeds) and then half my row didn't even show up so I had so much room for activities
it's hard to rank this show with all the big spectacle things I've seen (Pablo tour, aphex twin DFN, Radiohead, Roger waters) but honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen.
a) it sounded fucking incredible. I am not a big care about sound/mix guy but holy shit it was so good. the material is such a big range of tones and everything was so locked in. b) watching Danny Carey play king crimson songs was an absolute dream come true. 5 seconds into the show I just had a massive grin. seemed to be having a lot of fun too. c) Steve Vai might be the best guitarist on the planet. was absolutely stunned by how good he sounded. someone on the threads earlier mentioned wants the point of the play every notes kind of guys and mostly I agree, but wow. the point is that he can play anything that's asked of him and I thought it would sound kind of robotic but he hit all the emotional bits and added his own flair at other points and it was just phenomenal.

The Vampire Weekend show Friday night was just incredible. This was my first time seeing them, and they are without question one of the best live bands out there. Every song was a banger, and their musicianship is undeniable - two drummers, saxophone (including Ezra playing sax on a song), and violin, in addition to the brilliant guitar work. My wife and I brought our 9-year-old with us, and she had a blast, though my ear is still ringing because she rode on my back and screamed for a good chunk of the show. (We eventually had to explain to her this isn't as much of a screaming show as Taylor Swift was.) The encore was silly yet fun, as they took requests for songs that they didn't necessarily know how to play or really know in general. Cults, who I was only passingly familiar with, opened the show, and they were really good, too. Don't miss this tour if it's coming near you.

Pulp. Good fucking band. Great to run into joyrider. I still can't decide if I want to be Jarvis Cocker or if I want to be with him. Palladium shows were solid but felt like warm-ups for the Hollywood Forever show, which was one of the best shows I've seen in the cemetery.

Nice. My buddies who drove over to Houston for that said pretty much the same thing except to tell me, "you done fucked up." I've seen a bunch of clips from the shows they've done so far, and it is pretty badass. Vai playing Fripp on a strat is strange but he gets it done. Thanks for the report.

Amenra was great last night. Things hit another level though when Caro from Oathbreaker came out to do the end of De Evenmens though. Such an awesome surprise.
PS she's doing it on every show this tour. I just didn't know it was happening.

The Babies were great last night in their 2nd show of their little reunion run. First time playing Brooklyn since 2013 and you couldn't tell. Kevin and Cassie gel together well and do a good job of sharing the spotlight. And they both shred. Would love for them to make a new album.

love that the tour is going well. One of the most heavy cathartic bands out there

Was waiting to read this until after seeing them last night in DC, but I fully agree. They were excellent on the FOTB tour and they're just as good if not better this tour. Love these guys, what a fun show
Justice at Hollywood Bowl was incredible! Wasn’t expecting such a great crowd and atmosphere. Largely the same set as Coachella with a few variations and extra songs thrown it. Loved how that giant cross looms over the bowl up in the hills - too perfect!
crazy what tiktok can do for an artists audience. when Duster came back they were playing small venues with most of the attendees being old weirdos. now at the ripe age of 26 i am among the oldest people waiting in line with a sea of art school hipsters with x’s on their hands ahead of me at a venue 5x bigger than the one they played on the reunion
not gonna lie.. didnt love the duster set. they played very well but imo their music just doesnt translate well live. they are much more of a headphones in bed off an edible band
Sofi Tukker leveled up their production from when I saw them at Roo in ‘23, from tighter choreo to a bigger lightscape. really fun stuff and their dancers are incredible.
HOWEVER
Confidence Man is a hell of a band and stole the show. Heard people at the Anthem asking “who was that opener?” For the rest of the night. Worth the price of admission for themselves alone, a really polished show that still had a chaotic edge of “anything could happen in this moment

I'm hoping this will lead them to doing their own headlining tour in the States next year

hope so, I’m obsessed now. Would legitimately plan a trip to a further city or to a festival just to see them again

planned on going to the philly show last week but never realized Confidence Man was the opener. I like Tukker enough but then tix were $75 and at my least fav venue so i passed. Figure a HL tour has to be in the near future for Confidence Man.
first time seeing Anderson Paak outside of a festival and it was perfect. Malibu in full and then a damn near perfect set list to close out the remainder. Got 2 Silk Sonic songs and closed with 'Dang' which was a nice touch and gave the band time to do 2 of their album songs. Hes gotta be close to HL status if the next album hits.

Had a blast at Shannon and the Clams last night here in Portland. Didn't realize how strong the band's ties were to Portland area! Felt super special with a lot of their family in the audience. The band killed it, and we got a War Pigs cover to boot, plus a cameo of Shannon's little dog (wearing the cutest little ear protection). I was somewhat aware from a KEXP interview/show that Shannon recently lost her fiance (while they were living here in Portland), so after the show I did some internet and instagram sleuthing and saw how open she has been about her grief and journey to get to this album. A lot of Shannon and her fiance's family were in the audience, and it genuinely is one of the more special shows I've ever been to. Best last minute purchase to a show I've done!
