ALICE IN CHAINS has commenced the songwriting process for a new studio album. In an online posting by The Baldy — whose job is "to travel the world with ALICE IN CHAINS and send photos, videos and blog entries back to [the webmasters] at AliceInChains.com" — he writes, "I've been [in Los Angeles] for five days, sat through three rehearsals and one demo recording session, listened to several other demos, and I can happily report that the new stuff is kicking my ass right out of my pants. Remember that these songs are still only in the early stages of being written too. Just in the time I've been here, the guys have taken a riff and worked on it and expanded it and added layers to it, and now it's practically a full-fledged song."
As previously reported, ne of ALICE IN CHAINS' best-known tracks, "Rooster", will be featured on the tonight's (Thursday, April 26) episode of "Supernatural". The show airs nationally on the CW. Check your local listings to find out exactly when you should tune in and watch it.
ALICE IN CHAINS has been added to the list of artists who will take the stage for tribute performances at the second annual "VH1 Rock Honors". This year's celebration will honor the music and influence of OZZY OSBOURNE, GENESIS, HEART and ZZ TOP.
These honorees will perform live, along with additional tribute bands QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, NICKELBACK, GRETCHEN WILSON and KEANE, on Saturday, May 12 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Hosted by Bam Margera ("Jackass", "Viva La Bam"), "VH1 Rock Honors" will air on VH1 Thursday, May 24 at 9 p.m Eastern. Presenters will include Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Williams, Criss Angel, Taylor Hawkins and more.
ALICE IN CHAINS filmed its concert on October 31, 2006 in Providence, Rhode Island for a possible DVD release. The Halloween performance was two hours and forty minutes long, with the group playing additional songs for the filming. There's no indication yet of when the DVD could surface or what other features it might contain.
The group's most recent North American tour featured the reunited band playing a two-hour show that included an acoustic middle section as well as an eight-minute video tribute to late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley.
Staley died in 2002 after a long struggle with drug addiction that effectively put ALICE IN CHAINS on ice in 1996.

Cantrell's guitar work was never interesting. Typical deisel-soaked, nu metal influencing riffs. Layne was great though, that's why Jar of Flies was their best work. His haunting vocals, soaked in atmosphere.

LOL!! "Nu Metal" "Grunge" "Thrash Metal" "Metal Rap"....Ah the buzz words of 90s rock....thanks for reminding me I always did like how everyone wanted to lump it all together when it was all notsomuchso!
But yeah, Cantrell isn't the greatest of that era's guitarists, but still a decent enough muscian and not given nearly enough credit for the AIC sound IMO...his backing vocals on the later stuff were really what carried them through. Jar of Flies is great, though I think SAP is where Layne really shines on pure vocals. Unplugged is still my fave.
A cookie to who knows the not-so-mystery guest vocal on "Right Turn"......
I saw AIC with the new singer in Myrtle Beach late last year, and I have to say it's one of the best shows I've ever seen. The new guy doesn't try to be Layne, so it's a bit more acceptable, and they still play amazingly. I don't know if I'm so excited about them doing a new album. I heard they were gonna do an album, maybe, but not call it AIC. Calling it AIC, and risking it being a peice of sh!t record, is too much weight to attempt. This could ruin the reputation AIC had as musicians. But, Jerry's a smart guy, and hasn't really done any bad music, or made bad choices business wise, so I've got faith in em.

They'll be touring this fall with Velvet Revolver. Sparta will be opening up for the two in the first half of the tour, with another opener to be announced. Dates haven't been released yet.
I heard the first Velvet Revolver cd a couple times and didn't think much of it. I'm hearing good things about their new one, but we'll see. I'll be going to the closest show regardless.

I don't care if the new singer has the greatest vocal ability of all time, Alice in Chains without Layne is pointless.
I suppose you've heard them play too? I love people.
They're still good musicians who play great music and hopefully will record some new music.
We know your point of view, AIC isn't the same with Layne Staley....thanks for that amazing revelation. Please stop pooping on this thread and leave it for people who are excited to hear whatever Cantrell, Kinney, Inez, and whoever else they want to play with are up to.

Sorry, I was under the impression you were seeking others opinions on this matter... I love people, too

Well, technically no, I wasn't asking for people's opinions, I was just passing along some information, but I do love hearing what people have to say. I just don't necessarily like hearing the same negative things from a person over and over. Once is enough I'd think.

And I think people either forget or just don't know that Cantrell wrote about 75% of the lyrics and 95% of the music. Obviously Layne had one of the most affecting voices ever, but this is still a worthwhile group.

my point is there is no AIC, without Layne Staley, He was the catalyst that started the reaction
Cantrell, Kinney, and Inez need to stop pooping on the past and great music they made with staley

I said I don't mind hearing opinions, I just don't want to hear them over and over again. Again, almost all of what they will be playing is Jerry's music. If you've seen them play, you wouldn't call it pointless.

I'm gonna focus in on one part of this... "I just don't necessarily like hearing the same negative things from a person over and over. Once is enough I'd think"
I'm looking over this... nobody ever repeated their opinion on here, but how many times have you tried to defend yourself by saying "have you seen them?"

'nuff said.
Zdlr, whom I first quoted when I brought that up, said essentially the same thing twice.
I have asked the question, have you seen them, to a few people because I literally want to know if they've seen them. I can't help it that nobody will answer.
I understand that there is always some resistance to a band touring or recording under their own name after a member has died. So if that's your problem, fine. But to completely write them off, or call it pointless without any first hand knowledge of what's taking place seems absurd.
Bottom line, it's their band, they can call themselves what they want. They're performing their music at a very high level and have the potential to make great music in the future. If some of you are going to miss out on it because it doesn't jive with what your perception of AIC is, I guess that's your loss.
