detroit in 6, spurs in 6
kobe can't carry a team...he's proven that already. not that he doesn't have some better talent around him this year, but i think the spurs can hold them off. i was more worried about them beating the hornets than i was about them trying to beat the lakers

Can anybody remember a better set of conference finals? You'd probably have to go back to the late 80's when LA, Boston, and Detroit were all there before.

kobe is the best player on the planet..and he has pao gasol who will give duncan fits (if david west gave duncan problems..wait till gasol)
at some point the spurs are going to run out of gas.

yes...and how many championships has kobe won without shaq? or some other monster star by his side? his ego keeps him from being as successful as he could be. i never once said kobe wasn't phenomenal. but talents like him and lebron are useless without a solid team by their sides.
now, i'm not saying the lakers will be a cake walk by any means. but i'm less worried about the lakers than i was about the hornets.

Exactly. Did anybody expect them to win anything with the crappy supporting cast he's had the last few years? Should they have expected it? Of course not. Now that they have a legitimate #2 option in Gasol, and Odom go to the supporting role that he's suited for, they have a chance. If Bynum was healthy I'd have to pick them to win it all.

yeah...and they're still playing the defending world champions who just proved that while they might be older, their veteran status counts for a helluva lot more than people gave them credit for.

you can say that about anyone. when did tim duncan win one without either robinson or ginobli/parker? kobe DOES have help this year, thats the point.
and i disagree that kobe couldnt carry a team if he had to anyway. he wasnt good enough (or mature enough) to carry a team back in the shaq days..and he didnt have to anyway.
he is good enough now.
bet you a mountain dew that the lakers win the series.
You're right about this, he can't carry a team, NOBODY can carry a team. The point is that now he doesn't have to.
depends on what we mean when we say "carry a team"
I mean, win when you're the only great player on your team, and you don't have suitable role players. Although, Lebron came damn close to doing it last year.

he may be good enough now, but the spurs have been good enough 4 times before now, and they still have the same championship caliber players with them. i think people discount the veteran status more than they should.
and your point about duncan not carrying a team is moot. the spurs have NEVER been a team with single superstar talents like kobe and lebron. they've always won with team effort, and they know it. that's my point.
and i'll bet you that mountain dew and raise you a pepsi

I guess this would all make sense if Kobe had come out and said "I can win an NBA championship by myself, I don't need anybody else", but he didn't, he's actually been asking the Lakers for more help for a couple years. He's done so too publicly, and it a way that makes him look like a spoiled bitch, imo, but that's beside the point.

for a couple of years? and he's been in the league...how long?
kobe's ego has been a hinderance for a long long time. i'm sorry, but you just can't take 35+ shots in a game and say you're a team player.
as i've stated already, i don't think it will be a cakewalk. i see it going to 6 games. but the spurs are still GREAT, and they have a title to defend. they want this, too.

Well yeah, they didn't really need any other players when they were winning championships.
Then Shaq left, and Kobe posted the highest assist total of his career. That team failed, so the following year he did try to do it all and averaged over 35 ppg while taking 27 shots per game. This only got them to the first round, so he started asking for more players. Since then his shots per game dropped to 22 last year and 20 this year.
You didn't work in a hotel in Colorado previously, did you?

They have to make sure to keep a body on Gasol. He gets so many easy layups with Kobe driving to the hole and dropping it off for him. Duncan is going to have to disciplined....luckily we're talking about Duncan so that shouldn't be an issue. Also, Tony Parker has to come through and give them a decided advantage at the PG spot....if those two things happen, I like their chances.

well, the spurs are going to have to step up their D, that's for damn sure. there were some HORRENDOUSLY defended games against the hornets, and they're better than that.
as for parker...we do need him to step up as well, but with ginobli being the force he more than often is, parker can afford an off game or two. especially if we can get finley to start hitting 3's like he did last night. and even berry if the time comes.
oh, and another thing...if joey crawford is allowd to ref even one more game the spurs play in this post season i will personally find a hit man to off him. that guy is the single most craptastic, power-hungry ref i've ever seen.

Chauncey doesn't look like he wants to move. If he's not healthy, he shouldn't be out there.
Good games by Garnett, Pierce, and Rondo....Detroit has a lot they need to improve on. Hopefully the rust wears off and the Celtics lose their legs a little in game 2 since they're not riding the emotion of winning the Cleveland series and it being game 1. Of course that won't matter if Detroit's offense looks as stagnant as it did last night.
