In high school, my dad would wake me up on Saturday mornings by BLASTING the Grateful Dead. I hated it then, but I totally appreciate it now. My parents took me to my first concert, the Allman Bros., when I was 4. Now, they let me AND my little bro go to Bonnaroo. They're pretty awesome and I thank them for my great musical taste I really want to do the same thing with my kids one day.

Christmas of 1977, I got a portable 8-track player and 2 or three tapes. One tape was Terrapin Station. So, little did they, the parents aka santa, know what they were buying, but it was my introduction to the GD.
Did get to meet and talk to Bill Kreutzmann before a Kingfish show in Boulder while setting up the monitors and front of house sound. Actually got to do the house mix for that show. Made it real interesting mixing a band for 1200 people for the first time hearing them. Bill talked about family, kids and such. It was fun, but from being the very talkable person prior to the show, by the time the show was over, the dressing room was trashed.
In the mid 1980's, I had numerous friends at CU-Boulder who followed the band throughout the years. We all were involved in producing a variety of concerts on campus over the years. Also had a friend whose dad was somehow involved with the GD as a publicist or something - Rhet Grevatt. His son, Jonathon, went to CU and is now a radio DJ in NYC.
Oh, the found memories - I remember being stuck in Boulder during the Thanksgiving blizzard of 1983 and partying with Jon and his roommate Lisa and having a great dinner. Lots of snow inside that day. Best knowing a generous person on the supply side of the business.
That was then, now I have asthma and sinus issues - wonder how that happened.
