Last weekend my friend and I built our flagpole for our campsite. Pretty much followed the design of the guy on here with a few modifications. It has been up all week with no problems. We have had some rain and high winds so we are pretty pumped that it held up. Now all we need is some cool flags.
I always just buy some PVC pipe (3/4" - Schedule 40) and cut in down so it will fit in my truck. Buy some couplings and some PVC cement and glue it together when I get there. Then cut it up again when I leave. Cutting requires a hacksaw.
You can make a flagpole any height you like and any deisgn. I've had straight poles and "U-shpaed"oles. Both work well. I just wedge mine in between the bed and cab of my truck but someone here had a great idea of cutting th PVC on a 45 degree angle and driving it into the dirt.

www.poorvin.com/roo/flagpole/ Here is the site that I found on here. Pretty much followed it except ours uses guy wires and doesn't have a tee at the top. Pretty easy to build.

I tried building that flag but screwed up and ended up with a second bathroom.

Most who had a pirate flag got it stolen last year, mine included. But then, that is what pirates do............. ;D This year I am going with a Celine Dion flag

You could fly a ninja flag, but you wouldn't be able to see it unless it wanted you to, and that would probably be the last thing you see. So maybe that's not the best idea.
ONe thing that I can say is that getting that thing into the ground is INSANE!!!! YOu need something solid to crack through that farm dirt. we used a rubber Mallet and destroyed it...then found a 2 x 4 and hacked at it for about 5 minutes before we realized it was not going anywhere...then we used a pocketknife and churnned up the dirt and got it in with some major will power. IT stayed up all weekend and was the absolute last thing we took down. Cant wait to put it back up again!!!
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
got my skull and cross bones flag stolen last year too. must of been some high school punk or some dumbazz who still likes high school. as far as the hard ground goes, do what troo said about cutting the end of your pole to a point. also, right when you get there, figure out where you flag is going to be and pour some water on the ground to soften it up.

You could attach the flag with padlocks. (of course they could cut it loose or steal the whole pole.) You could also chain and lock the pole to your canopy.
I just have a boring flag.
One of the best ways to minimize thievery is to make friends with your neighbors. Then everyone knows who belongs there and can keep an eye on each others stuff. I really helps as it makes everyone feel responsible to stop thieves instead of just saying "It's none of my business."
Here's our flag; Our friend for two years in a row has backed out....so this year we are bringing him with us!
that's funny as hell. it'll be hard to see at night. Make sure there's a spotlight or string lights around it so people can see just who they are missing out on hanging with.... :-)

I built the pole out of 1 1/2" pipe. I also bought a 2 foot long piece of 2" pipe. I cut one end of the 2" piece to look like a spear so it would be easier to drive in the ground. Using a hammer and a piece of wood I was able to drive it in the ground 12". Then the flag pole sat inside of the 2" piece. I drilled a couple of holes through both pieces and bolted them together.
We also had so much trouble getting our flagpole into the ground! I built the one that is linked to Leo's Roo Survival Guide, and that thing refused to go into the dirt! I even cut it to a point at the end, and it took three of us to get it to stay in the ground. We probably looked so stupid trying so damn hard to put up a PVC flagpole ;D
Instead of getting a big flag, we hung up a few smaller ones and some other fun stuff like a windsock shaped like a parrot!

I am planning on bringing a steel stake and a 5 pound sledge hammer to loosen up the ground before I try and drive the pvc into the ground. Hopefully that should help, along with some water to soften the ground.
hey guys, I bought a flag and want to hang it up. I would love to build LEO'S flag pole, but I'm horrible at building things. How would it work to buy this 8 foot long flag pole and just duct tape it to my canopy??? would it work? and what are other ways to build a flag pole or hang them up? I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SOME ANSWERS!! thanks www.amazon.com/Flagpole-Go-Foot-Inch/dp/B000OWKEKA/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1212072422&sr=8-40
honestly, i duct taped some metal poles that were left over from a shitty walmart canopy to my current canopy and it worked great. Everyone thanked me for the flags last year, so that they could find their way back.
