Jim and Nick's also make some incredible onion rings. Now I'm craving good southern food!!! Good thing I'm visiting grandma tonight!
I'll be passing by Jim and Nick's on Charlotte on my way to my grandmother's house today.... so funny to think that I may be passing other inforoosters! I was just in Bellevue on Sunday, Trippindaisy... I went down Sawyer Brown to get to the Michael's
Never been to Nashville (although this will have changed in a month), but a good website for food reviews is Chowhound.com - just go and search Nashville, and everyone seems to have a different opinion on where to eat. I'm hoping to get some good southern food down there, and I will probably make my way to a Waffle House for breakfast the next morning before getting on the Roo shuttle. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

I live right around the corner from Michaels past the soccer fields
I was there a couple weeks ago and went to this little pizza pasta place that was tucked away in this awesome neighborhood. If you like something unusual, it was the place to go.
Wow maybe we should have named this thread West Nashville represent .
To keep this on track Red Robin is OK but no hamburger is worth 12 dollars.
Hehe didn't mean to hijack I agree that Red Robin is a little over-priced and not really that great. BTW Whitts won over Jim 'N Nicks and damn was it good!
i heard any of the waffle houses off of the highway are awesome....i met some peeps who used to live right by roo at my friends party this past weekend and they said you have to go to one

My thoughts on Waffle House are that you need to go once to experience it..... I personally think they are pretty gross and refuse to eat at them
having grown up in nashville and going to school in denver now, i crave every single day food from: 1)Baja burrito- doesnt get better 2) Jacks on broadway- went to high school 2 blocks from it, my almost daily meal 3) Bread and Co- good sandwitches, although a little expensive, amazing fruit tea
Nashville has amazing food. so much better than in denver (especially the college food). you just gotta find what you like.

Nashville has NOTHING on Memphis as far as BBQ goes, but Jim & Nicks and Corky's are pretty decent. Nashville has a good reputation for soul food and hot chicken, and by hot, I mean sweating, teary-eyed, endorphin-producing hot. Prince's Hot Chicken Shack is the original Nashville hot chicken place, they even used to have a room in the back for white folks during segregation. Bosco's in Hillsboro Village (near Vanderbilt on 21st ave) has great beer, but their food is overpriced and the portions are tiny. Jackson's has good quasi-creole food, and if you're in the mood for an artery-clogging po'boy, go to the Villager Tavern. The Pancake Pantry (only open early through lunch), Jackson's, Bosco's, and the Villager are all together in Hillsboro Village. I heard a rumor that the Loveless is closed. Crappy. I don't know if it's true or not, but I do know they've been struggling since it's so far out of the way.
In Murfreesboro, we have some really freaking good places that are good on a budget: Kleer-Vu (the best meat n three anywhere) Toot's Marina's on the Square has great Italian food for the price. The Clay Cup has great southern breakfast and good coffee. Also on the Square. Tomato, Tomato is right off of the Square, and has fantastic gourmet pizza, and a good beer selection. The Chicken Shack!!!!!!!!!! Hot chicken meets soul food. They also have shrimp and catfish, everything is pan-fried, not deep-fried. Ok, I'm going there right now. I'll finish the post later. Okay, DAMN, that was good! I got a little spiciness in my nose, and went through 5 or 6 napkins before I could breathe right again. My endorphins are kickin'. I got a 3 piece with fried okra, collard greens, a biscuit, and a drink for 7.50.

morning after the roo cracker barrel is always good if your looking for some good food anytime try the mad platter or monells loveless cafe as previously mentioned is also good
Nothing like good ol vinager slaw on your sandwich and baked beans...the sweet tea is just like mama's and BBQ is amazing....we love WHITT"S
And doesn't Whitt's still have their BBQ sandwiches on sale on Wednesdays. That's the place to eat the night before Roo!
most places.... yeah i think they do. grab a sack with some buns slaw beans and a lb of good ol bbq and make yer own...it'll feed like 6 and its only like 10 bucks....oh how i love the south!
So there aren't waffle house's everywhere??? WHAT? ok if you have never been to the waffle house you do have to go! get ya some of those scattered smothered covered diced and don't forget CAPPED...they cap em with mushrooms and after bonnaroo that could be a whole diferent experience if ya cap em yourself...what...who said that?
oh and you have to not mind being served by miz louise who only has 2 teeth left and one is just-a-hangin!! oh no offense to anyone named louise or waffle house workers in general ...but mama with 2 teeth pull that hangin one for real! ;Dhehe
I have made my reservations for lunch on my way home from Bonnaroo so it is safe to let the cat out of the bag but it's not in Nashville but so worth it for a great southern meal. Miss Mary Bobo's boarding house in Lynchburg is an experience and fried okra is always served. If you have never done it, I strongly suggest you check it out. But make reservations soon as the place is booked weeks in advance. You can also check out Jack Daniels while there.

In Denver, there is a place called Casa Bonita. Very big tourist place - indoor cliff diving, music, etc....not authentic, unless food cooked cafeteria style is authentic.
Food for tourists - there are a bunch of chain places that create an environment, but it is the same environment regardless of where you are across the country.
I will jot down some of the names of places. Hell, I don't have to go south for Jim n Nicks, they have two places up north in the Denver area. I actually ate there a few weeks ago. Cheesy biscuits were great.
hibouxdufromage, be careful telling Northerners about Prince's Hot Chicken. You have to be inoculated before you eat it! Kind of like Krystals. Have to be born here to eat those gut bombs.

Sure, Druid, but it sure is fun to watch yankees try to act tough while they're trying to finish a piece of Prince's. Disclaimer: imagine the hottest buffalo wing that you've ever won 10 bucks on a bet for eating. Multiply that hotness by 5, and you've got Prince's "medium" heat. The pickle spear isn't for eating, it's for wiping your lips with so you don't blister. The upside is the endorphins that your brain releases feels better than anything that comes in a pill, your skin pores will open wide and actually cool you down.
