Ok, folks. Need some ideas on this one. How do I go about getting some coffee action going on?
We're not bringing a camp stove to save on room and due to the fact that most of the raw food we brought went to waste in the past.
Sooo... here's what I was thinking: I'd grab one of those small backpacker stoves, like a JetBoil, and give that a shot using an old metal percolator put right on the burner.
Anyone have any experience with this? How long does it take to boil a 'good sized' pot o' joe with one of those little stoves?
- Or - Would it simply be easier walking around screaming "Coffee?!?" until I find someone willing to barter for a nice cup?
I'm cool going for it either way, more so with the second as thats always fun.
Walk around with your shirt over your head screaming "I need CAFFEINE hehehehaha" in the Cornholio voice. I'm sure someone will hook you up with some mud. ;D I'm a regular coffee drinker and I'll prolly start going through withdrawals if I don't get some joe. I'm suprised they don't sell it in Centeroo.
I use an esbit stove. they are small enough to fit in your pocket and one fuel pellet will brew a 4 cup percolator. You can get them online or at REI. I have a couple extra imatation types and I'll give you one if you want to try it out (The imitations are not as good as the real ones though.) You will need a small percolator.

I actually have one of those in the dark recesses of my camping gear. Might just use that if it comes to it, but I was looking for something that would bring water to a boil faster.
As for the organic coffee vendors, I figured as much; and frankly any is better than none.
For simplicity, you could just boil water and make the Folgers 1-cup (they're like tea bags but with coffee).
For much better coffee (and 1000x better than perc) you could use a french press. Again, you're only boiling water and then using the press to brew it.
I have a 12V power inverter that I am going to use and just bring my coffee pot from home and use it. I know that i will have to find a substitute urn since glass is not allowed but i think this is going to work out the best for our campsite.

I second the French press idea. Starbucks used to sell a plastic one which also functions as a travel mug (I borrowed a couple of them from a friend for last year's Roo, but have no idea if they still have them). It looks something like this, which is available at Target (at least online):

I'm not a regular coffee drinker so I don't know how good this is but I saw these cups of coffee at the store that heat itself upon opening. It might be a good idea. Although i'm not an avid coffee drinker I have stumbled upon this drink from Caribou that has so much caffeine in it that I about get the shakes. I'm thinking aobut getting a couple cups of it to bring to roo and drink a little as needed. hehe
For those of you in VIP land, I intend to sell iced coffee in the morning. Maybe some breakfast too. No need to walk to centeroo for your caffeine fix.

I will have to find you!!! I do not normally drink coffee however after a long night of partying followed by just a few hours of sleep I know I will need a good pick me up. ;D

Ok...JetBoil makes a coffee press especially designed to fit into the stove cup. If you get a jet boil you must use jet boil pots and pans because of the jet boil heat exchanger. All equipment is designed to fit around the heat exchanger and other cooking equipment won't work with this stove.
If you do buy a jet boil, I would suggest buying a companion cup. The coffee press makes two SMALL cups of coffee and if you want to keep the coffee warm and cook something else you will need the companion cup.
I will bring my jet boil and the coffee press that goes with it. I want coffee and the ability to heat water for oatmeal and other soup like items.

I went this route every morning last year and it worked great...just put it down right on top of the burner and made sure no one bumped into the table. Add a little Bailey's and you're golden....

My husband is a coffee fiend and tried the percolator route last year. Yuck - coffee grounds are nasty. This year we are trying a drip coffee model with the camp stove. Reviews are good. Hopefully this will work well. If so, we plan to share - bring your own mug (VIP).
