Sweetwater blue and 420 are both fucking amazing beers. i told the guy at the beer store by my house to see if he could find them. We will see. Either that or Ill have to get my friend to mail me some. Blue is unlike any other beer.
I tried the 420 this year for the first time and was not all that impressed. Left an aftertaste that I did not like - kinda like Sierra Nevada. Guess I will stick with Rolling Rock

The 420 is extra hoppy, a lot of people don't like that. I really enjoyed the stuff from the Brooklyn Brewery, the Nashville local craft brewer (Yazoo my personal fave) did his brewmaster apprenticeship there. I am beer Nazi though and what really bothers me is that no one from the breweries are there just local folk. I would really enjoy talking about the beers with the folks that make it.

is that what causes the aftertaste - a beer being too hoppy? I have no idea - not a beer afficianado - just really beginning to try different types of beers
Well the hoppiness causes that tart astringent taste, and I think that is where the aftertaste comes from. Usually Pale ales, have more hops. Origianlly hops were a preservative which is why IPA's (India Pale Ales) are so bitter/hoppy originally it was so they could make beer in England and have it arrive in India in some kind of shape worth drinking.
If you are trying new ones and do not like the aftertaste try some of the different Heifenweizens around. There is a shiner Hefe that is not bad, however make sure you drink them out of a glass they are unfiltered and will not taste right in a bottle. Also you might try the Sweetwater Hummer which is a Witbeir, or Belgian white ale. It is made with Orange Peels and coriander, and like Hefe it is unfiltered so you will not have much bitterness/aftertaste.

I'll try to check some of these out - Mississippi is really funny about what beers they let into the state. It is actually illegal to homebrew beer int he state but legal to make wine - go figure
I really liked the 420, #9, Dead Guy Ale (I think that was the name) and Sierra Nevada. I couldn't have been happier that I didn't have to deal with Bud and Coors all weekend
They sure were! We ended up drinking a lot of their Love Heifenweizen. Really great in the heat. The folks Starr Hill brought with them were super friendly and fun. Strumntheguitar, if you're ever in Charlottesville on a Saturday, they do brewery tours in their facility in Crozet (only about 5 or 10 miles out of town). Tours and tastings from noon until 5, with tours at 1 and 3. www.starrhill.com/
I loved the Sweetwater Blue. It's the only thing that made waiting for Kanye bearable.

^^Oooooo... I've never had their Love Heifenweizen, but I do love just about any heifenweizen I've tasted so I'm sure it would be delicious. I'm a big fan of their Dark Starr Stout.
I will surely be there on a saturday in the not too distant future... if nothing else just to go on the tour and enjoy some tastings
What was up with only offering Bud and Bud Light at the main stages? Blech!
You had to look for it, but there was actual decent beer near the main stages. The vendor to the left of What stage (not far from the porta-potties) had most of the microbrews. I was drinking Sweetwater Blue, waiting for Kanye to come on. I know my BF managed to find nearby microbrews around Which stage, as well. But you definitely had to look for it.

In speaking with the folks from Starr Hill, they told us that the Love will be available in bottles very soon. Sweet!
ever hear of Shock Top? it's like a better version of blue moon
Nooooo way man. Shock Top is one of the most bland, generic Belgian Whites that I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. That is my favorite style, so I've had quite a few, and Shock Top is certainly among the bottom feeders of that catagory, whereas Blue Moon is, for a macro, surprisingly very good.
If you wanna try something that is "Like a better version of blue moon", try Hoegaarden. Or if you want something a little more rare, try Blanche de Namur. Both are wonderful Witbiers.
tbh i'm not really a big fan of blue moon in general, i just thought this tasted decent enough at 3am. I'll try to find Hoegaarden or the other one next time thought.
I was drunk off my ass on #9 all weekend first time trying it, but being a resident of Tennessee (15 minutes from Roo), Sweetwater is around all the time, and it just has this certain "freshness" that can be attributed to how close it is. My brother and I have bought a six pack of 420 and the first and last beers were completely different experiences.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

Have you tried Wittekerke? an angel at the locla liquor store steered me toward this canned gem, by far the best canned beer I have had, its perfect for festivals. not sure how widely available it is though.
also, did anyone have the terrapin India brown ale at the broo'ers tent? MMMMMM!
