the hold steady - baltimore pearl jam- roo mgmt- starlight ballroom broken social scene- sonic stage show at roo. (for some reason..this show just hit me right..looking back it was an underatted highlight of roo for me this year.. "looks just like the sun") radiohead- APW on sat. (had tickets but left the insane rain show in Virginia..im still not over it) MMJ- late night
#1 on this list would probably be MMJ or Radiohead.
I know I've already posted in this, but I'll list the shows I've seen that I'd consider great:
Sigur Ros, Roo Mastodon, Roo Zappa Plays Zappa, Roo Levon Helm, Roo Pearl Jam, Roo My Morning Jacket, Roo Ghostland Observatory, Roo Metallica, Roo Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Roo Phil Lesh and Larry Campbel acoustic, Roo Battles, Roo Zach Galifianakis (yeah, to me it counts), Roo Mars Volta, Myrtle Beach
I've still got these to see:
Nine Inch Nails, Duluth (TOMORROW!) My Morning Jacket, Myrtle Beach (later this month, 31st) Mars Volta, Asheville (next month) George Jones, Columbia (October) Legendary Pink Dots, Atlanta (November) Buckethead, Columbia (November)
Radiohead at All Points West Second Night My Morning Jacket at Bonnaroo Disco Biscuits at Bonnaroo Trey Anastasio at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY Radiohead in St. Louis
I've seen a ridiculously amount of good music this year. All 3 nights of APW, Bonnaroo, Trey in Brooklyn, 4 Radiohead shows outside of APW. I still get to see all of these bands again this year. Pretty pumped!
Without question, the best show I've seen this year would be NIN in Duluth...
That may be the best show I've ever seen, or atleast in my top 3.
Seriously... as good as Levon, Metallica, TMV, Plant and Krauss, Sigur Ros, etc. were, NIN really, really exceeded my expectations. Way better than the last time I saw them in 2005, and I still consider that one of the better shows I've ever seen.

Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

I'm gonna have to go with My Morning Jacket at Charlottesville Pavilion, 9/4/08.
I was talking last night with my friend that I went to the show with and he was telling me how during Wordless Chorus the band took him to a level that no other band has ever made him feel before.
1. Radiohead at the Woodlands in Houston 2. Manu Chao at ACL fest in Austin 3. Wilco at Stubbs in Austin 4. David Byrne at ACL fest in Austin 5. Gogol Bordello at ACL fest in Austin

My Morning Jacket at Bonnaroo and the Dallas show with Erykah Badu NOFX @ SXSW on stage which got me on concert tv PRopagandhi in Turku Finland, Finnish punks are crazy. Pearl Jam at Bonnaroo Radiohead in Dallas Battles Sigur Ros and M.I.A. @ roo. I just put together a video of M.I.A's crazy show at Bonnaroo
Ok, now that the year is nearly over, and I've only got a few more potential shows for the year (maybe Ohgr, maybe the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam, maybe Ornette Coleman), I'm gonna go ahead an narrow it down:
The Mars Volta - Myrtle Beach, SC, (April) Metallica - Bonnaroo (June) Levon Helm's Ramble - Bonnaroo (June) Pearl Jam - Bonnaroo (June) Sigur Ros - Bonnaroo (June) Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Bonnaroo (June) Nine Inch Nails - Duluth, GA, (August) The Mars Volta - Ashevill, NC (September) Jonathan Richman - Chapel Hill, NC (October) Legendary Pink Dots - Atlanta, Ga (November)
It's down to those ten, if/when I rank them. So many great shows this year, going to be hard to place favorites.
damnit, i am never going to stop regretting missing mmj at roo. what the hell was i thinking, following my bum friends back to the campsite??? oh well, here's my top 5
1. sigur ros, can't decide if bonnaroo or the orpheum theater in minneapolis was a better show... 2. Secret Chiefs 3 at 10,000 lakes. hadn't heard of them before the show, good effing lord do they rule! 3. Ween in st. paul. stallion pt. 2 is right, they really killed in this summer's tour. 4. Buckethead at bella sol festival. he made it rain!!! 5. mars volta in st. paul, certainly the LOUDEST show i have ever seen.
that was a lot tougher than I thought, nin at lolla was a cool show but i hated the vibe at lolla. Huge honorable mention to the flaming lips for their show at 10klf with the screenings of christmas on mars as icing on the cake. I'm sure i forgot some cool shows, but these were all most excellent!
