Trey will headline next year either with classic TAB or since he has a lot of new orchestral material maybe with the orchestra. The real question is who the other two headliners will be

i dont think ive ever said "lil" in my life. it took the diversity of roo to get that out of me. i just thought it was funny that someone would bash trey on a roo board and then say they want jay-z and lil wayne to play. poop like that is the broken record around here....
oh well its hard to know better when your born in 199?
i guess its par for the course with roo.... phil gets kicked for kanye why not trade trey for lil wayne. seems about right.

For the record, I was not suggesting either should play bonnaroo, nor am I a fan of either. It was more of a "I'd rather see a poopy act I've never seen than a poopy act I have seen" sort of situation.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

do ya think phish is big enough to anchor thursday at roo???
well normally yes, but since its looking like the other 3 headliners for next year are gonna end up being led zep, floyd, and prince, they're gonna need to do something special not to get outclassed, which is why they will also be appearing with none other than special guest jay-z in an encore of the brooklyn '04 performance.
i heard that phil is throwing his own fest on bonnaroo weekend. its called philaroo and its gonna be sweet. Dr. John is the master of ceremonies, its 3 nights of phil, 3 nights of phish, 3 nights of string cheese, and kanye goes on at 530am all 3 days. its gonna be the poop!!!!!
so uhhhh.. i wouldnt hold my breath on trey or phish at roo.
damn havent see you around these parts in a while nol! hows that sex change working out for ya???
do ya think phish is big enough to anchor thursday at roo??? i was thinking it would take something like korn, limp bizkit, incubus, green day or blink 182 to fill that thursday spot. i dont know if roo has room for the little guys anymore.
that dosent surprise me in the least. we would all rather you go see lil wayne too. youll probably get your chance next roo. maybe he will do a latenight with lil john and lil flip. and roo will be a lil worse then it already is.

you realize this is all you ever post? whats the point? we understand you dont like Bonnaroo, and you dont ever want to go again but i mean, get off it already. no one is making you visit these boards... you seem to absolutely love being the troll around here. we get it, you win. move on.

Those first two were just straight jokes, not trolling at all^. When Lil Wayne plays instead of Trey I will stop going to Roo. Really the music is the only reason I go, I'll be attending allgood next year to enjoy the festival vibe. The feeling and vibe of roo' 08' isn't even close comparable to my first year 05', and that was only 3 years ago. But imo it has the best sets of all the fests and latenights, so I'll keep going. I saw Trey with the 70 volt parade, and the band just was not tight, and fricken Bo Bice came out, it sucked, so i definitely want Trey to come and win me back.

i realize you like roo..... whats the point of posting about how much you like it all the time??? we get it! why do you continue to post your thoughts about roo on a roo board??? noone is making you visit this board or read my posts. this is a roo board!!!!! im posting my thoughts about roo. is that not what inforoo has been about for years??? it has only recently become a board for teenie boppers to talk about eminem, kanye, jay-z, etc... or to come on here and bash trey in the trey should be back at roo thread and then post about how lil wayne and jay-z should play next year. so i guess if thats what roo/inforoo has come to ill continue to comment about it. i didnt start any of these laughable threads. i just post my thoughts. i dont think my comments are any sillier then the thought of phil getting shut down early for kanye or a serious post about lil wayne or eminem (lovingly refered to as "Em" now in inforoo threads) playing roo. so you can make your posts about loving it.. ill make mine about dis liking it and we can both not read eachothers posts if we dont want to see it. a couple of years ago if someone came into the trey @ roo thread and started saying he was boring and horrible because he happened to catch part of his act on his way to see snoop and reecommends lil wayne and jay-z for next year he would have been called a troll and ran out of here. same with an eminem headliner thread. but now im the troll????
eminem, jay-z, lil wayne, slip knot, RHCP, trey sux....... these are the quacking trolls!!!
ROO SUX!!!

Saw Trey in Brooklyn on Thursday night at Music Hall of Williamsburg... Freaking great show I must say... Trey was definitely back to form and looked happier and more lively than ever... Plus the scene in and around the show was just palpable with not only energy for Trey, but definitely phond pheelings of Phish... Closed the show with First Tube and then came out and played Heavy Things and Bug for the encore... True brilliance
Classic TAB August 7, 2008 The Music Hall of Williamsburg Brooklyn, NY
Set I: Alaska, Gotta Jibboo, Peggy, Sweet Dreams Melinda, Sand, Cayman Review, Gone*, Windora Bug, Night Speaks To a Woman
Set II: Tuesday, Drifting, Backwards Down The Number Line, Spin, Valentine*, Greyhound Rising*, The Way I Feel, Mr. Completely> Light*, First Tube
E: Heavy Things, Bug
* First Time Played (Original)
I'm sitting in the hotel lobby of my hotel 10 blocks from the Music Hall of Williamsburg. I'm going to make this short and sweet, and will try to expand on it later in the weekend if I can, or on Monday when I get home.
Last night, for being a Tour Opener, gets an A+ for me. I've seen my fair share of tour openers, and have heard enough to know that Tour Openers are generally not the best shows. IF this show were smack dab in the middle of a Trey tour, sure it proably gets a B, or a B-, but the fact of the matter is, this is Trey's first show in 17 months. So, I'm going to give credit where credit is due.
Alaska, which is not among my favorite of the new songs, started the show off kinda slow. But it's a quirky song, and it's new, and hey, I want to hear Trey moving forward, so I'll take new songs whenever they come. Jibboo was fairly standard. This was the first hint that we had all night that there is a fluidity and direction in Trey's playing that was maybe missing for a few years, and it's now coming back. Just the little things he used to do, that he forgot to do while slobbering on the guitar, he's doing them again. Stepping on pedals, making the tone dirty, dropping into short, tight little riffs, and oozing out of them into psychedelic dirtiness. Peggy came next. This was the only new song that was Shine-esque during the whole night, imo. You've all heard it before, I'm sure. It sounded better with the chord progressions being played on Electric versus Acoustic. This song reminds me of my feelings for Trey "I follow you off of Cliffs." Sweet Dreams Melinda was standard. I called this one before I flew. I could feel that coming two days ago, thought it might open, however. Soloing was good, started out strong, drfited into sublimeness. SAND!! This was another song where we get to see the fluidity and dirtiness, and missing pieces. Not the best Sand ever. Nothing last night was the best ever, other than, of course, the new stuff, but this Sand was pretty dope. Dirty Dirty tone. Lots of psychedelic shredding and wanking from Trey. Not just your typical go-for-the-rock style he's been doing as of late. This harkened back to 99 era Sands where Trey is going off in weird psychedelic directions while tony and russ lay the bed underneath. Next was Cayman Review. Can't review this, Cayman is my piss break song. I've seen it far too many times, and it is the perfect length to hit the bathroom, get a water, and get back to the spot. Leave when it starts, you get back to your spot just as it ends. Never Fails. Made it back in time for another new song, "Gone." I'll have to hear this again to review it. It wasn't the best of the new songs, but I remember thinking lyrically that it was strong. WINDORA BUG!! I knew this was coming. How can Trey get Tony back on the stool and not play a Windora? Makisupa-esque to say the least with a tight Trey solo in the middle. Night Speaks smoked. Best Jam of the first set, I thought. Built it's way into a fury that was good enough to end the first set.
Setbreak was short and sweet. I ducked outside to smoke, and saw that people were trying to sneak in. A few peeps managed to pay the door man money to let them in. Back inside and up to the front row for the Tuesday opener. Standard. Nothing to say here. Drifting was a really good version. Again, a fluidity and direction to Trey's playing that has maybe been missing in recent years. And when I say that, that's not to say Trey has changed drastically, it's just that I'm hearing things come out of him, I haven't heard come out of him for a little while. Backwards down the number line is lyrically my favorite new song. Happy Oh My Friend. This sounds GREAT with the electric chord progression, and the jam at the end. I don't know how you can know anything about Phish and not like this song. It brings me to a state of emotion that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside about what the future may hold for the greatest musician off all time. Spin!!!! Spin is an epic song. Period. One of the new epics. The jam was dirty and psychedelic, and smooth. There was a direction in this jam that wasn't heard for the rest of the night, but only hinted in the Sand jam. The combination that Followed Spin was easily the best 2 new songs of the night. The first one, "Valentine" had lyrics about "spinning in cirlces, walking in straight lines," and featured a Jam at the end which was simply amazing. The next song, "Greyhound Rising" was musically complex, featured many parts, and was lyrically very strong. This song is too complex for me to give an adequate review without hearing it again, so I'll just leave it at that. The Way I Feel was slinky and funky and showed me why I love the Trey Anastasio Band so much. Sh*t like that can make a show for me. Fat Tony could groove that song all night. Mr. Completely was rocking, but very short. It drifted into The next new song, "light," which featured lyrics about "Lights getting brighter." Many of the new songs feature lyrics about coming clean, and the repurcussions of that. I'm guessing Trey is seeing the world again through a pair of glasses he took off during his opiate addiction, and the new songs all reflect that. First Tube Closer. Standard. Rocking. Face-melting. crowd f*cking loved it. Heavy Things Encore. Ray took the solo, per usual with TAB as of late. Bug encore was STRONG. Very Strong. Maybe better than any Phish version I've heard. The jam to close it was stellar to say the least.
This show was amazing for the simple fact that there were few mistakes. There were few mis-steps. There were no cringe-worthy new songs. Trey seems fluid, sober, and clearly "brighter" than in recent years. It's like the beacon of light that is Trey Anastasio has ramped back up from half power to full power, and with the coming tour, we will all see that first hand.
My Review of All Points West TAB Set --- Classic TAB 8/11/08 Liberty State Park, All Points West Music and Arts Festival, Jersey City, NJ 1: Sand, Drifting, Cayman Review, Alaska, Gotta Jibboo, Mr. Completely, First Tube E: Heavy Things, Tuesday
The TAB show at All Points West today, for being an abbreviated set, was really good. Parts of it were as good or musically better than Brooklyn, though it was less than half as long.
The show kicked off with Sand, right on time at 7:30. This Sand was different than the one in Brooklyn. It was a little more straight-forward rock and roll, and featured less psychedelic shredding than in Brooklyn. It did have a slightly dirty tone like in BKLN, however. You could tell from the start that Trey came to fill up this 1 hour set with as much punch as he could.
He dedicated Drifting to his grandfather, who came through the port at Ellis Island 100 years ago. Drifting was not as good as in Brooklyn. It was good for the most part, and featured light, airy soloing from Trey, but never really peaked like it did in Brooklyn. Cayman Review was tight, short and sweet. Trey's solo seemed a bit abbreviated, which was fine with me.
Alaska was the only new song on the night. I went into this show wanting to hear the new songs again. I really wanted to hear "Valentine." If I had to choose, I would've put Alaska at the very bottom of that list of new songs I wanted to hear. It's just not my favorite, and doesn't really go anywhere. It reminds me a little bit of the quirkiness of Phish back in their early days, but it doesn't have that same youthful vigor to amplify the quirk. It was well played though.
If this mini-set were a compacted version of a full Trey Show, the first set began with Sand, and ended with Alaska. The second set started with Jibboo.
Gotta Jibboo was the heat. Where I felt the Jibboo in Brooklyn was basically a standard version, this certainly was not. Trey was all over the fret board, wanking, shredding, pushing in different directions and building the jam into a frenetic peak. This Jibboo was as good a quality song as anything from Brooklyn.
Mr. Completely was hands down the best song out of the 3 sets played this weekend. The jam was absolutely ridiculous and went off on tangents that never even surfaced in Brooklyn. This Mr. Completely is WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT when it comes to one Mr. Trey Anastasio. I implore you to seek it out and realize how well Trey is playing right now.
First Tube closer. What else? First Tube is the type of song that never really goes anywhere except where it goes, yet it always is a pleasure to hear. It's the type of song that makes you feel ok with the band leaving the stage, even if it has only been one hour. Comparable to the Brooklyn version. This one may have been a bit more energetic, though.
Encore was Heavy Things, and Tuesday. Heavy Things was standard again, and Ray took the solo again. I was pleased that Trey was playing an encore past his allotted time slot, but this was a little too standard for my liking. It's a fun song, but I really wish Trey would play the solo every now and again. I love how he noodles in that tune. Tuesday was a barn-burner. Where the Brooklyn version was very standard and had no solo, this one had a Ray solo, and then a Trey solo, where he just went for the rock. He shredded the end of the song, and ended up playing an encore that lasted 15 minutes past his time slot.
All in all it was a good show for a 75 minute set. The quality of the Jibboo and the Mr. Completely were easily on par with any thing from Brooklyn, and I honestly believe the Mr. Completely was way better. Best jam of the weekend for sure.
I'm Really happy to have Trey back. It feels good to see him fluid, sober, happy, and playing the guitar with the passion and fire that we all know he has in him. Nashville should be amazing.

I'm going to his Nashville show with the orchestra. I don't think phish will be at roo since they can throw their own 100k fest themselves, IF, they do get back together. I saw trey at rothbury and i loved the set, especially the new songs with Gordon were totally frickin awesome. Can't wait for 2009, I've already begun to save.
I ducked outside to smoke, and saw that people were trying to sneak in. A few peeps managed to pay the door man money to let them in.
That was actually me... Spot on with your review of the Brooklyn show... I was thoroughly impressed with the new songs in the second set, especially Spin... I thought First Tube was a little bit above-average, though, maybe because Trey's playing was so crisp
hey I go to school in nashville and have tix to the Time Turns Elastic Show. On top of that, he is coming to Belmont (my school) this coming wednesday to teach a master class to us guitar majors. HOPEFULLY there will be a Q&A or something afterward, and if there is, you know I'll ask him about a possible roo appearance. I assume since he is going to be here by wednesday, he will be in town through the 27th, when his show is. Hopefully other random appearances crop up.
edit: he will be here wednesday the 24th, not the 17th as i thought.

so long story short, trey said a lot. basically he mentioned good memories at bonnaroo and i asked "is there any chance we will see you there in 2009?" and i dont know if he thought I was asking about Phish or just him...because he went off on one of those trey-tangents that didn't really deal with the question. he said "we were talking about it" but i have a feeling he meant superfly/bonnaroo and himself being the 'we'. i dont know if he will be there or not, it wasn't really a decisive answer. he did say "i would really love to be there", so, make of it what you will, but it didn't sway me one way or another.
that guy is like 2 guys in front of me dudes! i probably KNOW that person...its all belmont students there so thats seriously flipping crazy. i just got back from an invite only performance too though. front row for trey and a string quintet. he played DIVIDED SKY as well as excerpts from his new piece, followed by his solo song LOVE IS FREEDOM. the new piece is seriously amazing..very well written by him and his co-writer. there are lyrics, which surprised me. since it clocks in at 30 minutes, i'd say divided sky will be used in addition to other old tunes. we met his guitar tech brian, who was a very, very nice man. he let us take pictures of the "old" languedoc (which by the way still has 'phish' stamped on its case). i cant piece it all together, im still freaking out. if oyu guys have any questions just post.
So Time Turns Elastic was AMAZING. Divided Sky was BRILLIANT and the new orchestration was yet another chapter in this musician's brilliant career. And Phish is reuniting. And TAB is on Tour in 5 days.
I still am armed with the contention that TREY ANASTASIO BETTER BE AT BONNAROO 2009
I don't really care if it's TAB, Phish, Orchestra Nashville, WHATEVER, bring back a ROO vet to the farm for another chapter.
I really see Phish headlining Bonnaroo next year, especially if they go on tour, as they have mentioned they are going to do. The Phish predictions hold more weight than the Zep rumors from last year because Phish has actually confirmed some dates and confirmed that they will be touring next year. I think it's a very high possibility
