^oh also, i know of 2 people who selected only one show and got tickets.... i really do think it was random....
Towards the end of the lottery, more people with single requests were approved, but the larger allotment went to those who requested the maximum. Once that allotment was full, they moved down to the smaller requests.
If you talk to people who got their single ticket requests approved, you'll notice that they got their email either late last night or early this morning (as opposed to the majority who got their email around 5pm yesterday), and that they are definitely in the minority.

Has anyone not gotten an email? My friend insists that he hasn't, but I'm betting it just got lost in his spam box somewhere.
And those who did get them - is it showing up on your credit card? (so i can tell him to check his account since he can't find the darn email - he's a bit computer illiterate)

It's hard to say if the old mail order system was better. This was certainly easier. I got denied tickets with the old system too, especially high demand shows like New Year's. With the sheer volume of people requesting tickets for these shows, it only stands to reason that the overwhelming majority would be denied. It's all a crap-shoot.
I myself, am looking forward to the tour. Getting to Hampton would be a huge hassle for me anyway. I'm confident that I will get to see Phish sometime this spring/summer, and hopefully many more times to come. Hampton would be awesome, but I'd rather see them in Maine in August. I'm hoping this is just the beginning. People, PHISH IS BACK!!!
I'm not saying anyone deserves to see Phish more than anyone else. In fact, I'm saying that EVERYone should get to see this band (reread my second to last paragraph). What I am saying is that it's sad that so many people got shut out because they only selected one show as opposed to requesting the maximum amount of tickets. The old system favored seniority over access to credit cards.
I can agree with what you're saying. However, I feel that the seniority system is inherently flawed as well.
I think that, just because someone has been a fan for longer and been to more shows, that doesn't necessarily mean they're a bigger fan. And, to be honest, I don't like it when people say "I've been listening to them since before you were born, so clearly I'm a much bigger fan" - because the amount of time you've been listening to a band does not necessarily correlate with your level of fandom. Also, it just seems like snobby elitism, not too far removed from that typical pretentious hipster crap of "I was into band X back when they were unsigned and playing in local, rinky-dink dive bars". In my mind, if you're a fan, you deserve to see them.
I personally did not request tickets, because I'm more of a casual fan, and I wanted to give the diehard fanatics a better shot at getting a ticket.
Anyway, take it or leave it, but that's just like, my opinion, maaaaaaaaan.

OR how about someone like me, who has literally been a fan since i was 13 - (not trying to play the ive been listening longer than you game - its just a fact), but never go the chance to see them live? (was too young in the 90's, went to boarding school and had no way of getting to shows..it literally pained me when I was in boarding school to know they were playing a few miles away (hershey for example) and couldnt get there.) and then in the 2000's got involved in other scenes and missed out then, kinda lost interest -which was my own fault, i was a raver then . Ive been waiting since i was 13 years old to see Phish - Im 28 now.. and im finally getting my chance...had it been the old system, i would have missed out yet again....my brother thinks it makes perfect sense that we got these tickets...karmatically speaking
obviously it sucks for ANYONE who is a fan to have to deal with ticketbastard tho.
i think it sucks that they will be about 5 miles from my home and i may not get to see their first show back. i may suck it up and buy a grossly inflated ticket from some black dude in a white t-shirt holding a sign that says I NEED TICKETS!
ps- not making a racial stab, i've just never seen any white dudes in a white t-shirt holding those signs outside of the shows i've been to. :-)

I just want to make sure that people understand that I am not one of those "phishier than thou" individuals who thinks that becuase I've seen x number of show, I deserve to go more than someone who hasn't seen the band. I think if you go back and read my posts, particularly the one you quoted, you'll see that that's not my point.
Here's a story that should make my point pretty clear: I know a girl who only goes to shows for the drucks. She dropped multiple requests for shows and "won" three tickets for all three nights. She's going--admitedly--for the drucks and the party.
I know another kid who borrowed his parents credit card and requested tickets "just to see what would happen." He also "won" the maximum amount of tickets. He's now seeing how much money he can make off the tickets or what sort of drucks he can trade them for.
Clearly I have no issue with people who love the band getting these tickets. And age has nothing to do with it--it's not your fault you weren't born sooner or you grew up somewhere that made it impossible to tour. I think it's *great* that a lot of first timers get to go to this historic show--it'll bring a magical energy to Hampton. Phish shows thrive on that kind of love for the band.
Maybe the old mail order system isn't the right way to get tickets out either, but I just think this new lottery system has some major flaws, too. I don't have a solution and maybe I made a mistake by coming here to vent about it.

I disagree with that completely actually. I think this system adds an unfavorable advantage to those who are able to get more people to do multiple requests, IE Scalpers.
Many of you may not remember how the old system worked, but you had to FRONT THE MONEY, meaning multiple requests meant you would have to front that money for every request.
The system, as it is set up now, rewards people for playing it like a lottery ticket. Buy as many as you can and hope you win. To me that is not indicative of the long standing relationship Phish built up with its fans over the long haul.
The old system had it's flaws, sure, but no one can ever say that it wasn't a system that rewarded the FANS first, and the yahoos and scalpers second.
I was never denied in the old system. 13 years I've been seeing phish, and the only time Mail Order has denied was BOTH times when they "came back" and did a lottery to reward tickets.
It's bogus and should be reconsidered, imo. Just look at EBAY for an indication that the fans are getting phucked. The fact that the window was open for 7 days and not 1 or 2 days was also a joke. Mail Order Window NEVER used to be that long under the old system. It had to be post-marked in a 3 day period and was first come first serve.
I know this sounds like sour grapes, but like I said, I'll be there, in the door, no matter what it takes. I refuse to be denied. I just think a piece of what used to connect Phish to their fans is being lost due to the "Ease" of technology.

I'm local to the Hampton area and have friends who work at the Coliseum in management... people who could normally hook it up for special events had nothing to offer for this show. Good luck tomorrow morning, guys
