Look how similar these 2 tour schedules are. Pretty much the exact same time frame. Mostly on the east coast. Obviously both bands plan on touring beyond May, which is festival season. If the Dead were announced dates in or around tennesee for early-mid june, it would be a little too obvious they would play roo. Maybe theyre just waiting till the official announcement. Same with Dave, but I think Dave will wind up somewhere else (Lolla?), not Roo.

i'm super hoping for a return to the jam band roots this year. i would totally welcome newer bands, as always, but can you imagine phish, the dead, dave, allman bros, etc all at roo this year??
perhaps wishful thinking, but fun to think about nonetheless!

I think Roo has gotten so big, that they can kind of get the best of everything. They can get the best jam bands (Phish/Dead/ Allman Brothers) and the best of whatever else (Pearl Jam/MMJ/Sigur Ros/Radiohead/ Whatever band Jack White wants to bring) that's what makes it such a great festival, the diversity, (and no I don't consider MMJ a jam band.)
West Coast Rock Supergroup 'Region of Darkness' Ushers in '09 in Colorado After the success of their recent West Coast debut, Region of Darkness has been invited to share their raw, no holds barred rock'n'roll arsenal w/the good people of Denver, CO at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom on the first Friday of the New Year. Join keyboardist Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil Lesh), drummer Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros), guitarist Josh Clark (Tea Leaf Green), bassist Steve Adams (ALO), and vocalist Adam Iscove (Allrise, Particle w/Robby Krieger) for two sets of original, high-octane rock'n'roll. Tickets go on sale Monday 10.27 at www.quixotes.com
That's a hell of a lineup. Seems absolutely perfect for 'Roo. Maybe Perkins will convince Perry Ferrell into visiting the farm in 2010.

i think it's more of what mojo said right above you. i've loved both roos i've been to(06 and 08)...i feel like if you can't have fun while you're surrounded by 100 bands and awesome people...you're doing it wrong.
but...i'm dying to have the big names draw me in. last year the only headliner(or pre-headliner for that matter) that i saw were plant/krauss and panic. the rest just didn't do for me. which was fine...i still had a blast. but i want to be excited about those huge shows like i was for radiohead. i want late-night to be the awesome bonus...not necessarily the highlight.

I agree. Here's some food for thought for the "whatever band Jack White wants to bring"
It sounds like more like they're gonna put together a few B-sides* or EP but nothing major, kinda like what Jack did with Beck a little while back. But who knows?
TEN NIGHTS IN MARCH TO CELEBRATE FOUR DECADES OF LIVE MAGIC
The Allman Brothers Band will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2009 the best way they know how: on stage and on the road. ABB have confirmed they will kick off the year with 10 shows at New York City’s newly-renovated Beacon Theatre, where they’ve played 175 times since 1989. Ticket information will be announced in mid-January. The group will, as usual welcome many special guest musicians during this run. "I'd love to tell you what we have planned," Gregg Allman recently told Billboard, "but it's just kick-ass, that's all I can tell you."
2009 Beacon Theatre Dates Mon 3/9 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Tue 3/10 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Thu 3/12 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Fri 3/13 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Sat 3/14 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Mon 3/16 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Tue 3/17 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Thu 3/19 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Fri 3/20 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre Sat 3/21 - New York, NY - Beacon Theatre
Sounds like there's gonna be some sick guests on this run. They owe us from last year, I find it hard to believe the wouldn't do Roo, if they're touring.

good lord i hope so! i was SO disappointed about them canceling roo last year
What do people think about Beastie Boys playing Bonnaroo?
Beastie Boys at Bonnaroo would be amazing.... them jammin the fuck out... maybe do an instrumental set 1 night.... and an all hip hop set the next day or later in the night or somethin... their keyboardist Money Mark could do another solo set, like he did this year... Mixmaster Mike could do a solo DJ set... lots of possibilities....Quasar....the boys do an all hardcore set.... Country Mike....Bboys performing their country material live for the first time..... they are so diverse...i wanna see them there.

It really depends for me....hip-hop is such a wide genre.....for instance I would LOVE to see someone like Public Enemy that was so influential in music of all genres....but not at ALL interested in seeing the P-Diddy/Usher/Kanye/50centish type stuff Some people would lump it all together but to me it's TOTALLY 180 degrees apart! But....that's just my ears - LOL!

Honestly you can't even fathom what Greg is talking about and who the guests are and trust me you WILL NOT WANT TO MISS IT! In a word it is going to be insane. I know a lot of talk for a first time poster but trust it's going to be sick

I read an interview where Warren said the ABB was going to hit it hard and do everything that they could this year and then start scaling back on the amount of shows they do per year. I'm thinking they are a good bet for Roo! If Warren is there with ABB we'll also get a Mule show and maybe even The Dead too!
They said they're inviting everyone the ever collaborated with. If Dickey, ever plays with them again, Id say this would be it. Clapton already said he'd show up at some point.

I always like to get my Allmans info from people who spell Gregg Allman's name wrong.
And no....Dickey will not be there, he has dates scheduled elsewhere. www.dickeybettsband.com

Oh sorry grammar police and yes what someone up their said is basically correct they are inviting many people that they have collaborated with in the past. Warren playing with the dead is going to be incredible maybe they will play a warmup show or two

I'd say it would be Mule opening for a few shows bc w/ the Allmans/The Dead tours, not too much time to kick it out with the new bassist. Although Mule is capable of throwing down a good set anywhere.
i'm sure this has already been suggested but Clapton's 09 tour dates stop at May 31st in London after a tour starting Feb. 12th in Japan. Could work....wish it would.
