Honestly you can't even fathom what Greg is talking about and who the guests are and trust me you WILL NOT WANT TO MISS IT! In a word it is going to be insane. I know a lot of talk for a first time poster but trust it's going to be sick
I always like to get my Allmans info from people who spell Gregg Allman's name wrong.
And no....Dickey will not be there, he has dates scheduled elsewhere. www.dickeybettsband.com
actually, he could be there on some of the dates. he is definitely in the area. he could be there on the 9,10,16,17,19.
True, Dickey is off those nights, but he's in Vermont, Wisconsin, Ohio and Illinois....unless they moved the Beacon, that's not exactly "in the area".
What I did hear is that the shows are starting early, and Derek's band and Oteil's band are opening...which makes me think only 1 set from the Allmans.

"The Allman Brothers Band will return to New York’s Beacon Theatre for another marathon run of shows this March. The extended residency will celebrate both the group’s 40th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the group’s first appearance at the Beacon Theatre in 1989. As of press time, the group is expected to headline the room on March 9-10, 12, 13-14, 16-17 and 19-21. The Allman Brothers’ Beacon residencies are known for both their special guests and their diverse setlists, which range from rarities to special covers and radio anthems.
Though the Allman Brothers Band has close ties with everyone from jazz great Roy Haynes to southern rock veterans The Marshall Tucker Band to the members of Phish and The Dead, most eyes are on two possible special guests: estranged founding member Dickey Betts and guitarist Eric Clapton, the latter of whom has recorded with both Duane Allman and current ABB guitarist Derek Trucks. Betts’ tour schedule currently places him in the Northeast during the days leading up to the Allman Brothers Band’s Beacon residency. "
So I don't remember who played both Roo and Roth last year, but here is some speculation about Roth for this year:
"Speculation about the 2009 lineup so far includes a reunited Phish -- three quarters of the group performed briefly together on stage at the 2008 ROTHBURY. Other possible headliners might include Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, AC/DC, the Foo Fighters and Coldplay which are among the many bands currently touring and promoting recent compact discs.
McFann would not confirm organizers were negotiating with Phish or Petty, but she also declined to deny it. McFann promised several well-known groups and surprises would be part of a 2009 lineup."

Hey...I just realized this was about Rothbury. I would laugh my ass off if they signed AC/DC after having to hear the hippie hate of Metallica after last year's lineup.

I live in Michigan and the Rumors here are that there will be no Rothbury, due to the location going bankrupt and legal proceeding not occuring fast enough... Hope it happens, it was great last year but am banking on the old standby of the Roo to deliver like it always does
so with all the Springsteen rumors has anyone checked his tour schedule? he is scheduled to be in europe on and before may 31, then again on the 14th. so even if he did decide to come all the way back here for a show at Roo, then fly back, he wont be available to close the fest out.
Those are 2008 dates. All Bruce has announce for 2009 is the Super Bowl in February.

well there are some advantages to being a paralegal and having a password to the bankruptcy courts - I just checked the proceeding and there has been nothing posted about today's hearing at all in the case file.

nice call.
and as for Rothbury, it was approved today by the judge, there is another meeting tomorrow to see if they can re purchase a liquor licence, the one they have now expires on July 1st, and rumor has it that the festie will be the same dates as last year. Also, the city counsel has to agree on a few other things, but there is only one gomer that doesnt want the festival to be there.
Edit:: Maybe not?? I just saw some articles online from grand rapids....hmmm that is interesting.

could be that they just don'e have it on the court website yet - if it was in the press - it is prob correct. Sometimes the courts are really slow to get the opinions up and posted

yeah, it was all over the Rothbury board, but you never know. But i'm pretty sure that its settled w/ the judge but they have another meeting tomorrow.

no the allmans will have the 2 sets as usual no one is opening for them not derek's band or oteil's and I can tell you that Dickey Betts will definitely NOT play with them at any hows as of right now

I'll check the court's site again in the morning to see if there is anything new there.
For those that want it - I hope it is true - but I just do not see how they will pull the headliners they did when they have only 6 months to plan and negotiate
What I saw was that it was settled with a court TRUSTEE and that there was a meeting with the actual judge either this afternoon or tomorrow morning...this is the latest info I have seen:
Not that I can find anywhere....and it references that the hearing was supposed to be this afternoon...and I can't find anything about the outcome if it did happen....or if it was postponed which is likely.....
as a matter of fact this is the article that pollstar links to with a date of today.....
So sounds like the lease got the ok to be signed but they still don't know if the objections will be cleared...those still looked to have to be heard seperately...and looks like they will know soon how the utilities will be settled......and if they will have to sell any of the festie property to settle that debt......
Ok, so I would hate this to be true, but I would think that U2 will be touring during Roo...they have a new album out on March 3rd, so I'm pretty sure that they will be touring full swing by Summer....ikk!
How was his performance at Coachella last year? I'm kind of meh about Prince now. His old stuff is spectacular but I haven't liked any of his releases in such a long time. I'd stop to see him tho but he wouldn't be the reason to get me to Roo.
He's still kind of a tool, though. He covered "Creep" and then tried to get YouTube to pull the footage due to "terms of use" violations. Radiohead was like, 'hey, that's our song -- you don't have the right to block it!'
